I picked up a compressor on ebay and fitting was very easy jack car up and remove under tray two 10mm bolts holds pipes on and four 12mm fix it to the block it drops right out of the bottom.

I had it gassed at a local garage full vacuum and gas pressure test and dye added and correct amount of oil in system.

Luckily I did not have to replace the dryer as I had only allowed the system to be empty a few days.

The compressor may only last a year or maybe more as I have no idea what the miles are on the S/H unit.

ok so I had everything done and gassed up two weeks later no gas not happy the seal in the s/hand pump failed luckily the seller refunded me fully so I have bitten the bullet and bought brand new with a new condenser and dryer so time to fit them and get it regassed again.

Used a company called CoolpartsUK got both items for £306 delivered from Tyneside moral s/hand not always the best option will report back on progress might even post pics.

Well you know what Rod? Those photos of your cars inlet ports show us owners of the superb is250 that we need not worry about carbon build up like those in America. I was, until I saw those pics, going to get my car carbon cleaned before taking it for its service. Now I'm not going to.

The trouble with carbon clean is they put it through the injectors in most cases and the IS250 engine is direct injection ie the fuel is injected via a separate port

so the cleaner does not actually get on to the inlet and exh valves so it imo a waste of time, the only way to get to the valves is through the inlet manifold which involves stripping to the level in the pics and worse case head removal the Americans do have it harder than us.  But quality fuel and proper oil changes with the correct oil low sulphur, low ash type is the way to go .

    I always use Q8 Formula Special D1 5W-30

  3. Its just run 102000 miles I looked down into the inlet and the backs of the valves are clean only slight carbon considering these direct injection engines are prone to carbon build up up especially in USA where they have poorer fuel I was very happy with the state of them, it did have a small erratic idle occasionally just shook as if wind was blowing car but since I cleaned the throttle body it's gone.

The tickover was 1500rpm after cleaning due to the ecu having setting the idle to the position the throttle flap was in due to the carbon build up on the opening flap had held it open slightly , so I  pulled the ects and efi fuse which clears all ecu settings and started her up and back to 700rpm in gear and it runs so much better.

  4. ok so the plugs fitted today and oil and filter carried out and while she was in bits I cleaned the inlet manifold and throttle body , quick inspect of the backs of the valves that I could see and they had minimal carbon on them so happy put her back together reset ECU by removing ects and efi fuse quick road test feels very smooth and tick over a rock steady  700rpm.

Would be interesting to know where you got the spare compressor and overall costs of fixing it?

Hi Rod. Actually you ask if anyone has upgraded from is250 to is300h. My lexus history started with an is300h premiere. Got rid after 5 weeks as I couldn't get to grips with the CVT. After a stint with an auto mondeo I got another is300h premiere and loved it. Driving on battery alone I managed a best of 3 miles. The battery in my opinion acts more like a boost to performance. I'm in a 2007 is250 SE-L and to me it's better than the 300h. So yours is on 101k miles? Hey its only just run in. Keep it coz I guarantee if you get rid of it you'll regret it.

Its funny you should say that as tomorrow I will fit the new aircon compressor and have it regassed and run it some more , mines a 2006 SE-L with MM the 300h are a little dear at the minute and after all the work I have done mine  is now mint so I shall as you say keep hold may go and road test a 300h to see what it is like

I have just driven back from northumberland A1,A66 and M6 at 80mph on cruise it did 39.1 on tank avg very surprising.

  7. So the ultimately reliable IS250 Se-l has been true to form brilliant and totally reliable ,in fact it reliably did both its rear calipers , air con pump , touch screen and alternator and regular vsc light on. But saying that I like it , its got 101000 miles on it and drives awesome.

So I want another and I fancy a IS300H has anyone upgraded and could you indicate any issues you have had if any and how the Hybrid batteries stand up on high miles.

    thanks all
