  1. Like others have said - its not just about miles. Almost all mechanical aspects of the car degrades over time - thats why you get advised to replace things at X miles or X years whichever comes first. Batteries also degrade over time and actually can get worse if they're not used than they would have been if in regular use.

Its also supposedly from a dealership with 0 reviews and a non existent location?

Yes, from a dealer (not Lexus). I don't trust him though as I haggled the price down with 50 quid and then later when I asked to pay for a warranty (which the company could only offer for the engine and transmission, no electricals etc.), he paid for it first with me knowingthe prices without VAT (235 quid) , and then later asked me for 330+, saying that was what he was charged. I pointed out that 235 with VAT should be 282 and so he rang the warranty company and as he was talking I could hear through what the agent was saying so he was reducing the volume of his phone as he was talking... After asking the agent multiple times what the price is I could faintly hear 280 something... after which he eventually agreed. So basically he tried to get that 50 quid back through the warranty. 10 minutes after I drove away the hybrid system light came up. Rang him, told him, and he pointed me to a known friend mechanic (well more like tyre, exhaust and suspension guy) of his. Read the codes and indeed it was the hybrid battery. ECB and VSC also came up so both googled that and a possible cause was the 12V battery failing to which he assured me was the reason. I knew it wasn't... At that point I should have insisted for a refund, but I wanted the car so bad that it clouded my judgement. After the codes were cleared, car drove fine. Halfway through the motorway, TPMS light came up and I said **** it, not too bothered about that. Got home and a few days later serviced it at Lexus. Came out with 3 bad shocks (500+ each), all bad TP sensors (for which to replace they charge 500 lol) an oil leak (which as I'm monitoring 500 miles later, oil is still at full, so not bad) and a few holes in the exhaust. So overall not too bad for 3750. I guess I should cram it all in and say that the car is great except the throttle response. Never mind the delay when you floor it. My problem is that there seems to be a lot of dead zone on the throttle so when pressing it makes little to no difference acceleration wise. Is this because of the CVT? Is it because the ECU adjusting the response based on previous driving pattern or is it something else? Putting it in sport mode improves it a bit but not much. So anyway, if anyone's still reading, what are thoughts on this? If they refuse to fix the battery, guess it's reasonable to want a refund (even a bit extra as I serviced it) from the dealer. What are my chances of getting it? If he refuses initially, what should I do?

Wow, after reading all that I've no idea how you didn't take this car back to the dealer. At least get a mechanical inspection done prior to purchasing? If you get a refund, they'll refund you for the cost of the car - any money that you put into the car is lost.

I think in particular IS mk3 are priced quite reasonably. Higher miles ones or lower trims are now coming under 10k (even as low as 7,5k-8k) and that was similar price when mk2 were 7-8 years old.

Where I would agree with you - mk2 prices seems to hold. I bought my 2008 IS250 SE-L with 122k miles in 2014 for £5000 and you would still pay like £4000 for such car nowadays, so they have not depreciated at all. And even looking to latest 2012 cars, you certainly can't buy 2012 IS250 SE-L for £5000, even thought it is now 9 years old and mine was 6,5 years old when I bought it. So there seems to be something strange going on with mk2 price, but mk3 are very reasonable.

The only reason I can think of - Lexus never replaced IS250 mk2... there were IS250 mk3, but they are extremely rare and IS300h is significant downgrade from IS250 in many ways. Mk2 were better equipped standard, more solidly built and V6 is much more enjoyable to drive. I don't want to say IS300h is bad car, but coming from IS250 I really could never appreciate it. Sore if you want just nice car which is little bit more fuel efficient and you don't care about power then IS300h is "alright", but if like me, one wants just little bit more powerful car than IS250 then Lexus offers no options and IS300h is certainly quite disappointing.

I personally wanted coupe, so I went for RC. But if you prefer 4 doors, then GS450h mk4 is quite nice option. It is what I consider true upgrade over IS250 and something you could feel is an improvement. IS300h in other hand is sideways move at best, but in many areas downgrade.

    I bought an IS250 SEL for 3K, 60K miles.

Most of the prices online (non dealerships) for the IS250 seem to be around 2K-3,5K. Anything above 4K is usually the 2010/11 onwards, not sure they provide something extra to warrant the prices? Are they facelifted?

Reg the IS300H - I do like those cars but I don't think theres anyway I'm going to be paying 10K for something thats done 190K. Decided to wait a couple months and going to go for an alfa romeo giulia. This is now my 3rd IS250 - love them but the IS300h seems a bit overpriced for what they are, perhaps Lexus spent too much money on the hybrid systems. Speakers terrible, seats lower quality than the IS250, quite slow for a 2.5 litre + hybrid electric motors - maybe its old architecture - etc. etc. Anyway, super happy to have another is250 - cant go wrong!

  4. Hi guys,

Keen on getting an IS300H after owning a IS250. I know the used car market right now, and the past year, has been desolate lately. Seems like cars I bought/sold 2-3 years ago are going for 20-30% more today.

Having said that, I'm in no rush to get a car right now so was just wondering what are some sensible prices for a 300h? I've seen some 2013 180K ones being advertised for 9K - is that about right?

    Cheers
