Some good info, the DC5 is a incredible motor, a car I almost chopped in the DC2. I know they are like comparing to different cars but ur feedback is valuable. How is the engine in terms of its character to the K20?

    Thanks

K20 engine has more character with the vtec, however isf isn't too bad either, especially with some mods to make the engine come alive with burbles and the occasional pop.  Secondary intake flap opens at 4k revs so is kind of like vtec in regards to sound.  I guess it depends what you are after really.  The isf makes a really good  daily driver, that is comfy enough with 4 doors to transport the family around.  It is fun to drive but does lack a manual gearbox.  What I like is that I don't get much attention from others on the road, particularly from lads in fiestas giving you the thumbs up or trying to race you.

On the other hand, a Honda fd2 is in the similar price range, would be more engaging and cheaper to run.  However it is a bit too harsh to drive the family around in.

  2. Hi Imy

I've had my ISF since July this year.  I had a V8 itch and wanted to get a one before 2030.  Definitely worth buying.

The price I bought it for was too good to pass on (despite having a higher mileage).  Its great as a daily driver although a bit thirsty.  Its a pre facelift, however one of the previous owners had installed facelift LSD on for £4k at lexus!  I have a dc5 as my other car.   So being a honda fanboy the isf is a bit quiet for me as stock.  I have now put a H&S exhaust on and a takeda intake.  Its fast in a straight line but the DC5 corners a lot better.  Although I am still very cautious when driving the isf, in particular when its a bit slippy

I used to have a DC5 and a couple of DC2s.  Great cars.

I ran an ISF for about 4/5 years.  Loved it.  It sorted the V8 itch out 🙂

The FK8 is incredible.  Genuinely the most fun and capable car I have driven to date.  Pace is on par with the ISF except the FK8 stops and corners in a totally different league.

Paying £150 road tax rather than about £600 and 25mpg around town and 40mpg on the motorway are also a bonus.

My only issue was the noise.  I have sorted that with a suitable ASBO exhaust to match the looks 😉 although I have just bought a Remus valved one so I can go quiet or loud at touch of a button.

Also I know the looks of the FK8 isn't for everyone but I think it looks great 🙂

I see you have bronze alloys too.  Looks awesome and must sound so too with the exhaust mod.

Where are you in the country? I'd say you could instal mine and see how you felt.

It does make the engine noise louder as the Takeda intake forces open the flap in the airbox that usually opens after a certain amount of revs (I can't think of the amount of revs).

thanks for the offer.  I'm in derby so a bit far from you.  I'm very tempted to splash out to buy one

Be mindful that the cone filter is hard to find a replacement for. I have a Takeda intake at home which I removed from my ISF for two reasons. I wanted to go back to OEM, plus I wanted to get a replacement filter for it and I couldn't find anyone that stocked just the filter.

What do you think of the takeda?  Is it worth it for the noise it makes?  I have recently put on the H&S catback exhaust which sounds amazing but a bit quiet when the windows are closed.

These guys are based in Scotland and are really good.  I imported an exhaust from the USA for my FK8 through them so the price you see is what you pay rather than getting hit with import tax and the like.

thanks for the tip.  I didn't realise that funkypower sold them.  Saves a lot of import tax.  I have used them for honda dc5 parts in the past so know they are good.

How do you like the FK8?  I would have got one but had a v8 itch and was waiting for the price to drop - although the price has  kind of gone in the other direction.

  7. Wow that looks nice.  I also really like the black side skirts.  Is that ur isf?

My wife managed to scrape the aftermarket lip the other day.  Got quoted £300 to respray it!  I’m thinking of getting new lip as this one is getting a bit worn (but expensive to import) or I might see if I can diy carbon wrap or spray paint it black to save money so I can spend on other mods!  Although not sure how it would turn out.
