So this problem of the white smoke from the exhaust was it in winter? I take it there is no evidence of it now? I was actually going to ask as well why the crank pulley had been replaced. The car has little or no miles on it so what happened to the pulley?
White smoke is only evident on startup for a few seconds then goes.
The dampened pulley had been going for a while I found. I thought it was a slipping aux belt however as I was driving home one day I lost all power to steering and brakes. Pulled over immediately to find the outer part of the pulley resting on the plastic tray under the rad. Had the motor recovered to a garage. Turns out the rubber dampener that fits between the hub and the pulley had perished. Thats why I replaced the pulley.

Anyone have a workshop manual? I will leave it to my mechanic, but I need to get a list of bits to purchase, anyone able to point me in the right direction?
Many thanks
Tom
There are quite a few manual references on mkiv.com
Don't think he is that worried about a manual right now as he is selling the car, I'm looking at buying it hence I'm asking what this problem was and if it was sorted out.
Just done a quick vid showing header tank. This was brought up before I replaced the rusty rad cap and before I took the whole rad off to fit the main crank case pulley, as the old one had parted this mortal world.

What was the cause of the engine light?
That was the faulty speed sensor. ECU was all confused. as you can see in the vid everything is clear when started.

I'm in the market for some cats out of a mk1 147 model aristo. Also a lambda sensor. Anyone done a de-cat and has a set of cats I can rent off them to pass the MOT? Anyone know where I can get some cats and a lambda sensor cheaper than toyota?
Brian, i bought some parts from a chap down in Worthing, West Sussex last year:

Finally had my Dual 5" Jap slash cut fitted, extremely impressed with the sound and performance.

EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation. It pumps part of the exhaust gasses back into the inlet to reduce emissions from the engine, and it might be blowing as its under slight pressure.
Regarding that eBay advert for bits from the breakers yard in Worthing, I used them a month or so ago for some suspension bits and found the chap there extremely helpful and rather good pricing.

Is that the button next to the folding side mirror button? Its makes an awful earpiercing screech on mine?

If you dont have a Mute/ATT function then I think the only way of doing this would be to add a relay from the Car kit cutting the power to the stereo when a phonecall is made/received.

Gareth,
what are your thoughts on it being a seal within the turbo going causing water ingress? The car has done 60,000 apparently and the turbos need to be serviced at 75,000 so they might have gone early if the mileage on the car is correct?

I am seriously thinking of knackering my exhausts so I can get these
It would be cheaper to get it done at a Powerflow place, I have been quoted £545 for the zorst, damn site cheaper than the £1000 it would cost in the UK for that + the duty+ VAT.

I have a funny feeling that the head gasket (at best) has gone as I am getting bubbling coolant and a lot of moisture in the exhaust with White smoke being emitted. How easy/timely is it to reaplce the head gasket??

Is that a 5"?
Mateyboy specced twin mufflers with these exhaust tips:
However I might get these as I think they look better than the Bell shaped one above:

Could you stick me down for Pack No1 please.

I got a Mitchell one for my Aristo TT and it helped me diagnose a few faults with it. You can get the exact same ones on eBay for about £7 quid I think.

Any chance of a pic of the exhaust for the MK1 GS 300, will it fit an Aristo TT? and last but not least how much?
Thanks

third that, need some for the boot and the bonnet!

Right,
got around the problem by turning key to on position, tapped the wiper stalk and turned the power off when it reached the top. Go to rear seat of car and get Halfrauds wipers out in preperation. Remove old wipers and proceed to fit Halfrauds wipers, oh hang on they dont fit! Bloody Halfrauds see fit to put on clip on plastic lugs which clip over the end of the wiper arm, not like the PIAA just taken off that clip into the wiper arm. Fecking Halfrauds could not organise a P**S UP in a Brewery. Anyone know where I can order online some PIAA jobbies?

How the hell do you replace the wipers on a Gs 300 MK1? As far as I can see the wipers are fairly well hidden below the lip of the bonnet?
-
Getting an MOT is not a problem, the problem is Road Side emissions tests that they spring around Surrey sometimes.
Do you have the website details or contact details for Usave Auto?

No, it was the main crank drive pulley. Basically its a hub and a pulley with rubber inbetween to dampen the rotationional forces on the crank. Its the biggest one at the bottom of the engine.
