  1. I know I need to get a life but following the series Gangs of Oslo. The ES is hybrid and probably a premium model or Takumi. It had an ML system and seat .memory buttons.

the scene when the Es is in car park you can hear the electric motor wine. So genuine sound track …..

couple of whoopsies though in the film   Cops  in ES chasing a BMW X5. M sport down an auto ban and  X5 going hell for leather  err the ES shouldn’t  catch it ………  it did in the film

When starting the ES with the power button sound track made it sound like and American V8 muscle car ha ha ha

also the ES never got its body dirty in the series …….

  2. This inclement weather has allowed me to watch a bit more on Netflix

behold  ‘Gangs of Oslo’ episode 1 with in first few minutes main cop character drives up to some yobbos in a Black ES300h with tan interior !

at least makes a change from seeing them BMW. Audi &  RangeRover vehicles used by the baddies …….

any one  clocked an ES onTV?

  3. The send to car of destinations doesn’t work……. No soft key to upload to car …….

These are very basic faults with the app. I find it incredible that no one in Lexus or Toyota IT have the nounce to check the app works before realising to the public!!
    thats absolutely basic

makes one wonder how much other software on the car they have got wrong too……

  4. I came across this screen yesterday as was looking on the menu system regarding sat nav map update

    i have the 2022 model.

the terms were ticked  accepted , I left the page and returned to main menu and default screen which is my Map screen,

    All okay now.

could it be a software issue with yours Colin ?

perhaps a visit to mr Lexus might help ……

  5. I always use shell fuel as my local station in shell. It also has pay at pump.
I use E10 for local trips but always use the v power for long trips . I have the shell rewards programme and they give me money back after I have filled up 10 times and more if I use v power

Subjectively the v power gives a smoother response and quieter engine noise and better fuel mpg .

  6. Hello guys

    to answer the questions raised..

The digital mirrors fold  when locking the car if auto lock is enabled. They are flatter to the car than the conventional mirrors…

The near side digital screens on  the A pillar  is in the eyeline of the driver  so not necessary to put next to binnacle in car centre.

perhaps my only comment would be for really tall drivers who have a drivers seat position well back. is the display screen big enough to see clearly….

  7. I have the Takumi ES with digital mirrors and after some 20k miles prefer them to the more conventional mirrors now I have got used to them.

However they are going to be like marmite … love them or hate them, especially as a £1600 up front cost option.

For me the advantages are the graticules inbedded in the image which make parking much easier along with the wide angle views when indicating turning left or right or reversing. With the screens mounted essentially on the  left  and right A pillars  it is easier to glance at the screen images rather than having to actually look for the mirrors especially if the drivers seat position is closer to the steering wheel ( for us drivers of shorter stature)

any downside ? Yes night time driving ….the video software just cannot cope with the intense light level from head lights from traffic coming up from the rear  contributing to the extreme hi  and lo contrast light levels. Lexus need to improve this along with the overall digital image quality.

My camera lens do seem to mist up if the outside air  is cold or damp, but the internal heaters clear the image in less than 2 mins. Also if the ES is parked in the rain the camera lens housing needs to be wiped dry of water before driving, to get the rear and 360 views but this is no more than on glass mirrors. however driving in the rain the lens seems pretty clear of rain drop splatter.

The mirror housing does stick out from the car which is often quite a talking point from passers-by  looking at the car and asling are they your mirrors ??…… and yes they do look like handles to grab (a red rag to a bull for  errant youths looking for mischief) ……

heavens knows how much a replacement would be ……

  8. My insurance renewal is up for renewal again so as you do I decided to hunt around for a decent quote. A few companies I tried were 20- 30% higher than last year. So I decided to try Adrian Flux as linked through this site. The customer service lady was very helpful and gave me a quote which was  less than last year. Great  I thought and waited for the schedule and policy docs to arrive.

On reading the schedule carefully I discovered that “  theft” was only covered if a vehicle tracker with subscription was fitted. Strange ? Hadn’t come across this before. So I checked my current insurance and lo and behold in the tiny print of terms and conditions of the policy again tracker with subscription would have to have been fitted to claim for theft.

Next stage was to investigate trackers. Because Lexus link doesn’t count as an insurance approved  tracker system??.  To cut a long story short  subscription trackers of CAT 5 level are pricey, and I was quoted £500 plus for the unit fitted and approx £150 yearly subscription cost .   Crikey! I’m well aware of the advantages of this type of tracker but at  this cost   no thanks ….. so I queried this with the nice lady from Adrian Flux  and she kindly directed me to a unit called a Nano tracker  for about £90  one off cost which they approve and this  would cover me if some scroat   tries to steal my ES.

So just as a heads up as I know we all do read the small print on the insurances docs  and policies to make sure you’re covered for theft.

  9. On the charging pad there is a button which switches the charging bit off. So the phone can sit there and connect the apple car play to the system.
The front USB socket for the apple car play interface also charges the phone.

if you decide you can place the phone in the phone pocket where the usb socket is and use a short lead to the usb connection ….
