Will these work for the IS200

Hi I have a couple of question of my 60k service for an IS200 (51 reg)
1 When I press the Traction control button the light doesn't come on the dash as my previous car. What could be the proble? If its a simple fuse which I'm hoping it is where is the fuse located and where do I get one from.
2 Also the cambelt needs changing I need to buy the belt but whats the part number on the tensioner and idler? Do I have to change both the tensioner and idler?
3 Where's the cheapest place to buy an air,oil and pollen filter and should I go to Lexus for these or are OEM's OK?
Thanks
Sunil

My car has 58,000 on the clock but it's a December 2001 so I suppose I should get the cambelt changed, but I do have a few questions.
1 Can I get away with it if I get the mechanic to do a visual inspection to determine any obvious signs on the belt? I know it's risky with no guarantees but I'll be selling it in about 12 months and I will only add another 4000 miles?
2 As well as the cambelt what else needs changing? I've been told there are two tensioners but only the larger one needs changing is this true?
3 How long would it take a competent mechanic to do the job? (so I can judge what he should be charging)
4 Does the mechanic need any special tools besides the obvious?
5 Is it a big job for the mechanic or is ir fairly straight forward? My mate had an Alfa and it was a nightmare!!!
Thanks in advance

I've just bought an IS200SE (2001) last friday but I do have a few questions:
1 It will need the 60,000 mile service soon and I was hoping to buy the parts myself and get a local guy to fit them. The oil filter, airfilter and polen filter I'll buy direct from Lexus. Where's the cheapest place to buy spark plugs? I've heard ebay's pretty good but any advise? Lexus are charging £60 for 6 which seems steep.
2 What oil is best, fully synthetic, semi synthetic or magnatec (we'll be doing lots of short journeys)
3 The car will be 6 years in December is it wise to do the cambelt or shall I wait a while. I know it's every 100k or 6 years but it's done 60,000 so I was hoping to get away for it for a while. Anyone heard or a cambelt snapping?
4 There's a grinding noise towards the back driver wheel once I reach 40mph but disappears at low speed any idea on what it could be?
Thanks in advance for all opinions and advice.

I would have thought £5,000 was way too low.
I'm thinking more like £6500 and I will be doing a HPI check.
Parkers say it's £7,330 for a private sale????? Confused

Hi,
I've agreed to buy a Lexus IS200SE and hopefully will be picking it up on Saturday. Below are some of the details, what would be a cheap price for it. It's a private sale:
IS200SE
2001 (51 Reg)
56K full service history all Lexus except for 1 (will need the 60k service)
Silver
No scratches or dents
6 months MOT and Tax
2 New front tyres
HPI clear
Current owners had it for 18 months and sounds genuine but there have been 4 previous owners.
What price should I be targeting to get a really good deal, it's a private sale?
Thanks

Sold mine about 2 months ago as the mileage was creeping up.
Also looking at 323and C180 (abviously with a bit of mileage) but just can't do it. I think it has to be a IS200.
I've looked in the following place but if anyone has any other suggestions I'dd appreciate it:
autotrader
exchange and mart
loot
gumtree

Hi,
I've sold my IS200 SE as the mileage was creeping up and I want to add a bit more money and get one that's lower mileage.
I've seen a Y reg SE 81,000k full service history but needs a service now. It's a private sale and is HPi clear. The guys willing to take £7900.
Does that sound OK any advise is most welcome
it's silver
81,000 miles and thats lower mileage!
Yep to me 81,000 is lower. My first one had 94,000 from what I've read mileage doesn't matter too much on the is200 provided it's been looked after.
Everything works but if I buy it I'll get it serviced by a local garage and not Lexus as it would kill me. I'm thinking of http://www.nationwideautocentre.com
They seem good take a look at what they check for a full service this looks more comprehensive than Lexus?
I'm having second thoughts......81,000 on the clock is ok isn't it???

What kinda condition is it in ?
Why won't he service it before selling it ?
The cars in excellent condition but has 2 stone chips the alloys are much better than my old one which were starting to corrode quite badly.
The cambelt has also been changed but it won't get the 80k service done and he won't budge on the price is £7900 too much?

yes the power steering fluid needs topping up, and yes you should be able to get it from Halfrauds
Is there a specific one I need or will any do?
-
I've noticed that my power steering has stiffen up and reals very tight. I've cheacked the tyres and were OK but I got them up to 35 thinking it would make a difference but iut didn't.
The power steering fluid is on minimum............could this be the problem.
If this needs topping up can I get any power steering fuid from Halfords and top it up?
Thanks

I got my cambelt changed by a local garage. Cost me £280 but that included the belt, pulleys and tensioner including VAT.
It's wise to change the pulleys and tensioner while everything is off.
I also noticed that a slight rattling noisy disappeared.

How do you add a signature to the bottome of replies?
Is it possible to add pictures as well?
Cheers

hi guys!
can anyone help, just got my car back today after having the timing belt changed only trouble is i can now hear a rattling noise when in low revs and pulling away. the only way to describe it is as if the mechanic has left a bolt rattling about after replacing the belt. any ideas ??? oh and once i drove it home i noticed that they hadnt connected the fans back on the radiator........
....still the price was cheap :)
I also had a rattling sound and after weeks of diagnosis it was the cambelt.
The sound I had was similar to your. I was told the belt was grazing the cover and it had sheered.
Not sure what it could be at a guess I say it's the tensioner

I need to get my bumper resprayed does anyone know of a cheap garage in the north west london area.
The car's metalic silver can I get away with re-spraying just the bumper or do other panels need to be sprayed.

I caught my wifes car with my IS200 in the driveway and although there's no dent the bumper was scratched and paint has come off in 2 small place.
I tried to be smart and used one of those flash blocks you wet and then remove feltips off the wall etc (the bumper had attracted the colour of my wifes car).
By majic the block worked and the blue colour of my wifes car came off but when I checked in the morning there were scatches all over the bumper and it looks like the shiny lacque has come off because it really looks dull.
With the advise on the board I used Scratch X and it helped a bit but it looks aweful.
I've bought the touch up paint for the bit where it's completely but any suggestion on how to get the shine back?
I'm trying to avoid a respray on the bumper as I'm sure it's going to cost a fortune.
Any advise?
Cheers

If anyone's interested in a very cheap Lexus IS200 checkout
http://www.cars-direct.ltd.uk/
They are all ex fleet cars and I know someone who bought a car from here and it was straught forward.
This has has been on a few times as I'm assuming the reserve hasn't been met.
I don't work for them or anything but I remember someone wanted a cheap is200.
Cheers
