  1. Hello folks. Bought a RX 350 recently and had it converted to LPG. Same issue with the petrol fuel gauge - doesn't show the true level. Started after I put in £30 quids worth of petrol after near empty and it showed a very nearly full tank. Been back to the garage that did the conversion, they are aware of this issue, had it on a few other cars including Lexus's. They also suggested an ''emultor'' unit and will get back to me. VO2 Mac, did the emultor gauge work?

    Keeo you posted.

    Regards,

    Andy

    Hi Andy,

I was quoted £80+VAT for the emulator (my typo last time!). I just wanted to fid out a bit more about how the fuel system read the levels before getting it installed. I'll get it done in the next few weeks if I can be 100% convinced it will correct the error. Only recently, when I topped up petrol to check my petrol:gas usage the gauge didn't register the now full tank!!! Very frustrating. Someone else has posted that you can't start on gas - in the event of no petrol you can start using most systems.

I'll keep you posted on the "upgrade".

  2. Hi, the same thing happens with my 04 rx300. I am a car electrician/diagnostics specialist and i checked my system with emissions equipment and scope. The car starts up and runs on petrol for the first 5 or 10 mins depending on temperature so petrol is always used to begin with. I did however discover that the air filter had not been changed and was causing an air restriction affecting both lpg and petrol, perhaps you should check yours and have the injectors tested when running on gas to see if they are switched off like they should be. Apart from that i have to say i'm not over impressed with the system.

Thanks for the info Phil, my newly converted Harrier looks to be experiencing the same issue. An add-on emultor unit was recommended to resolve gauge reading problem, but I wasn't convinced. Whatever happened to measuring actual fuel left in tank like the old days?! Fuel consumption data etc should come from engine monitoring systems ( range, rate etc) but the basics of what you have in tank surely shouldn't.

  3. I have recently acquired a 2002 Lexus RX 300.While the car is a joy to drive, the petrol consumption for mainly suburban driving is dreadful.

I am considering installing a tank and management facility for LPG fuel at a cost of £950.The vehicle can be driven by petrol or LPG as a fuel substitute.

Does anyone have experience of this, and are their any unforseen snags?

    Many thanks.

    SKIP

Hi Skip, if you're still looking to convert to LPG - I just had my trusty 2000 Harrier converted for £1400 all in ( incl flaslube). PIckup and drop off + courtesy car for the 4 days. Corby based company. Drives perfectly - highly recommend the change. Top end power / speed slightly capped, but no real issue.

  4. Q.1 You will be okay with the reversing sensors. Mine has them on.

    Q.2 Don't know

Q.3 I changed my original rear light clusters to the newer (Lexus OEM )ones which incorporate the fog lights. Fogs work off the switch. ( When I got the car it was just fitted with a single fog light, Halfords type)

It was suffice for MOT standard but just looked ugly.

Really easy fix just change connectors.

My car (Aero Tourer 3 Ltr. 4 WD ) was imported brand new ( I am 2nd. owner ) So I cannott help with the paperwork side of things. It was serviced from new by Lexus Cardiff so I don't know if they helped in the SVA tests . I cannot contact the previous owner as he is in America.

It will stay  registered as a Toyota Harrier NOT changed to Lexus RX300

    Hope some of this helps.

Thanks for the info - very helpful. I've had a look at the wiring (as the translated Users Manual finally arrived in the post yesterday after a age!!). Mine doesn't have the rear fog option fitted as it has 2 reversing lights. I'm gonna try and switch it to a fog on one side instead. Just gotta get my brain around the wiring as I want it to follow the 'G' option that will work with the display light in the Meter Display. I'm sure I'll get there eventually.

Don't want any "halfords" danglers on the RX. (No offense Halfords - or "danglers"!!!).

Did you get the OEM clusters from manufacturer or 2ndary source? Just curious - theyu look cool in the pics.

Thanks for the Lexus vs Toyota info...just someone mentioned that I might potentially have problems if stopped for any reason and the car badging was different to the paperwork. Hence the inquiry.

    Cheers,

    Mac

  5. Hi folks,

re the Hong Kong model reports - I wouldn't hold your breath for that as I have just returned from living there and inquired about this. The main place listed (ETC HK Ltd) has a wrong telephone number listed so don't bother. When talking to the owner - he said he hasn't done a model report for ages and is a bit "rusty". He was helpful but not "helpful".

I'm now getting ready for the SVA test etc so I can get the vehicle (3.0 L Lexus RX300, '98) on the road in the UK. Whilst my vehicle has approved for use on HK roads (passed their EU spec emissions tests etc) I have no paperwork from the previous owner to support this. A sticker in the engine bay states it has passed but the company listed seems to have gone out of business!! Sods law!

If someone could give me some pointers for the SVA I'd be very grateful. In particular:

Q.1. After market reversing sensors have been added to aftermarket custom bumpers. Can I get these through or do I have to return the car to factory original condition?

Q.2. When registering the vehicle (all being well!) does testing certification for Harrier allow me to register it as Lexus 300 (as it is badged throughout as RX 300 & not Harrier)? Must all the paperwork be the same in other words?

Q.3. I want to set up my rear fog to operate using the dashboard tell-tale (not being used at present) instead of installing another switch? Can I hook all fogs (front & back) to the operate from factory fog switch on the headlight stalk?

Q.3 I also want to incorporate the rear fog into the light clusters (poss using one of reversing lights). Has anyone done this with RX ? Will that violate the SVA?

I've read so much sodding paperwork that it seems a bit of lottery in some cases even with Model reports.

    Cheers,

    Mac
