Thanks everyone, belt was done 25K miles ago in 2009. Started first time without charging the battery, battery was replaced 18 months ag0 with genuine lexus battery. Belt every 4 years seems a little extreme to me. I have had Audi RS4`s and RS5`s done Porche 911 and Cayman R and S and is a better car to drive than all of them, wished they still made them.

My old MK4 now lives out her retirement in sunny Spain although she has only just done 97K with full history. We have not been over to our house for the last twelve months for several reasons. We arrived last week car full of dust in garage, turned the key and started first time and runs like a new car.. how good are these cars. How often should cam belts be done and is it worth the expense considering the age. Only one fault she needs a interior light bulb but cant figure how to get the lense off without breaking it. Thanks guys.

Our Mk 4 is living out its retirement on the sunny island of Majorca. After not being over to Majorca for the last six months I expected the car not to start. How wrong could I be, started first time and runs like a dream. Not bad for a 12 year old car, although she has only done 92K. What really got my back up was the fact the interior light bulb has failed, surely we can expext better from Lexus.

Hi Everyone I have been having problems for a while now, with the off-side parking brake binding when the car has been not been used for a while, I normally can get it to free off but not this weekend it was right problem. I think I now need to replace the rear discs and service the parking brake mechanism. Has anyone got a "how to-do tutorial" for this task and any advice would be a great help. My car lives it`s life now over in Majorca so I will need to take all tools over with me so I need to know what exactly I will need. Many thanks.

Strange Vibration

Hi Guys, had a chat this morning with a Lexus mechanic I know about the vibration, not mentioning the UV joint. He asked if the vibration started around 40mph, which it does. He is certain the problem is a sticking parking brake especially so when the car has been stood for a while, removing the disc and a clean-up seems to be the solution unless its the cable itself. Any idea on costs of OEM rear discs/pads and cables, I will take them over to Majorca with me bound to be cheaper than buying them on the island. ?? -

Thanks Steve, thats a great help. I am back in the UK now for a couple of weeks so I will call into the local Lexus dealer and order some of the clips. I would check what type of grease they use, Lexus grease is bound to be the most expensive ever made although I would suspect it`s just waterproof grease. The problems bound to show again when the car has been stood in the garage at 33C for a couple of weeks, god knows what would happen if it was in direct sunlight !! Regards. -

Ok now I am confused is the CV I thought the CV joint that went dry was on the prop shaft not the half shafts on the rear ?? I take it the haff shaft joint can be accessed by just removing the rear wheel, is that correct ? Many thanks -

Hi Guys any reply would be apreciated as to "How to re-pack with grease" or would it be better to source a new UV joint in the UK and bring it over to Majorca for replacement, not sure if this is a quick or extensive repair to do. Thank You. -

Do you need to disconnect the propshaft or could the job be done on your back under the car. Is there a UV joint on both ends or just on the rear. Many Thanks -

Seems a logical idea with the CV joint. I have done about 200 miles since last Wednesday since the vibration happened and it`s been fine since. I am now sure it`s not a stuck brake caliper. I thought the CV joints were a sealesd non maintenance unit. Did you disconnect the prop shaft, if so, thats difficuly for me do do over here in Majorca with a lack of tools etc. I wonder if a good soak in WD40 might help. Many thanks everyone for your help. -
HI Guys, I need your help and advice once again. Here is the story - my LS400 (98 Mk 4) - 91K lives out it`s retirement at our home in Majorca. It is often left for a month or so without being used but always starts first time and runs like a dream but has started to do srange things. After being stood for a few weeks when I started off within half a mile a I had a vibration like a flat tyre and a rumble. Stopped the care started off again and vibration was gone. Car has done about 1500 miles since and never experienced the same until today when the same thing happened. stopped the car and all was well again, done 100 mile since and runs fine - any ideas what it could be ?? Many thanks

Carpet Floor Mats

Thanks Steve for the photographs. I have found this company which manufacture OEM mats for most car companies. They do the exact pattern for the LS400 in a 980grm carpet. I have requested a sample from them and will let you know what the quality is like. They only charge around £35 for a complete set. www.carmats4u.com -

Hi Steve, Just got the cost from Lexus £83 + Vat. Do you have the 430 mats fitted in a Mk4 LS400 ?, if so, how bad is the fit around the gas pedal, are the rears and the passenger side a good fit. The mats I have at present may also be from a 430 as the edge of the drivers side just catches the gas pedal. Many Thnaks -

Thanks for the reply, I am looking at a set of grey matts to match my interior trim, the problem with mats from the USA is that thay may be for a left hand drive LS400 and I need mats for a right hand drive car.
