  1. Hi all,

I have a IS220d Sport 56 plate and need to change the disks and pads all round, the problem is all of the places i go to list the incorrect rear disks, mine are vented and about >300mm where as the ones they all recomend are the solid 291mm disks

I am having real trouble finding a supplier of the correct rear disks and would appreciate some help guys, if one of you could point me to a seller that will do a full set of pads and disks to fit that would be great.

    Help mucho appreciated

  2. Hi all,

    Well my subwoofer is destroyed

Loud popping/farting is all I get from the back of the car now, which intermittently cuts off for 10-15 mins before farting for 5

Does anybody know how much this is going to set me back? What the parts numbers are, are there alternatives? anyone selling a used one?

Will I need to replace the amp too?

I think I know how to get to the back shelf (same as old IS, seat bottom, seat back, lift cover, 4 bolts) how do i get to the amp (i think bottom right in the boot??)

Help us LOC you are our only hope

  3. Hi guys,

Just got back to my car in town and found that someone had scraped down the drivers side.

Luckily the main scratches are on both doors rubbing strips, pretty deaply. But there is no dents and only one or two scratches on the actual doors (although one is quite big, but not deep).

Lexus just quoted me £70 per strip pre painted, which seems quite a bit since the ones there just need a respray (depending on cost)

Was wondering if anyone had any platnum silver ones (end of 1999 model) that were going cheap and if you guys knew how they are fixed (glued or bolted), also any advice on what you suggest I do about it?, have lexus fix it, my mates garrage or do it myself. Buy new ones or repaint the old.

Any advice would be massivly welcome.

    So stressed right now

    Thanks guys

  4. This happened to me the day i bought the car.

    while i was overtaking on a B-road

had to change up through 2 gears while overtaking without being able to release the accelerator too

    Terrifying

pulled in dumped the clutch, stamped the accelerator twice, it free'd up and i carried on driving.

If i hadnt been midway through an overtaking manouvre i would have just dumped the clutch and pulled over.

The peg is completely missing on mine so i made one out of a bolt and some big washers.

    Not happened since

  5. I have just bought myself a set of component speakers for the lex gone with some infinity reference ones with seperate tweeters and crossovers i am also going to replace the rear sub with a 12" infinity one (if 12" fits) and the centre speaker at the front.

From the reports i have heard about infinity i am quite chuffed that i have got some at last but if anyone can give me the lowdown on what to expect then it would be appreciated

    cheers

    Austin

Check my post, I gots an infinity 12", if you were thinking of replacing your 6x9's with these it wont work, you will need an infinite baffle speaker if you arnt using a box and make huge new holes for them to fit.

But in a box it sounds ace, nice and clear :)

a baffle what now i have some infinity 6x9s was going to put an infinity sub in to replace the standard one does that mean i need a new amp to power it ?

Do didnt realise you had a GS, if there is a 12" as standard in there you just need to check to see if it is boxed or infinite baffle (is it in a fully enclosed/slightly ported box) or is if for example on the back shelf. If it boxed the box will have an area of2"-3" squared, that should help you decide if it is boxed or IB :)

  7. He has a Sport..a 1999 or early 2000 model looking from the pics.  :D

Chris - your car really did look stunning at Trax ;)

Yep early 2000 sport in plat ice. I need some touch up paint for the steering wheel :)

The head unit swap was a bit of a bugger.

New speakers all round, and mdf mounts for them to make em fit, run new wires for the speakers to the front, these wires attatch to the standard iso loom plug i put in, split off the 12v constant ignition and earth and attatched those to the iso plug too. that way if i need to i can replace everything in the car without re-soldering any cut wires.

Took about 8 hours for the head unit and speaker swap total.

  8. I originally posted this in audio video, but the title a bit stupid. Dont think anyone read it :( First this is where i mounted the fuse for the constant on

    img14995fr.jpg

this is where the wiring went through the fire wall

    img15007po.jpg

This is the lovely shiney amp (and my mate taking the photo :) ) this will be all you can see of the modifications from the boot when i've finished beautifying it

    img15014le.jpg

Another angle of the boot showing how much the sub takes up, you can also see a bit of the bottom of the new 6x9's and one of the 6x9's crossovers

    img15022qy.jpg

This is a close up of the sub through the arm rest, i am thinking of some form of speaker cover to tidy all of that area up, not sure what yet tho, maybe a chromed metal piece with Lexus lasered into it. Need advice here

    img15038vf.jpg

    Wider angle of the seat

    img15041yh.jpg

    And another

    img15057mg.jpg

    One more

    img15081sm.jpg

This is the head unit and my control for the sony ericsson Bluetooth head unit. This is probably a temparary setup from my old car, I am looking into a kenwood ddx-725 at the moment but they are pretty costly.

    img15062pm.jpg

    And this angle

    img15074zn.jpg

Could some of you photoshop wizzards mock up a speaker guard covering the bottom of the armrest hole up, i will be looking into it too, but im thinking chrome metal of some form.

    Watcha think so far?

  9. Ok, not to be rude or something.. But honestly, it sounds like most of you guys are driving on summertires!? If that´s the case, use  your brain, buy winter tires!! And put som cement or sandbags in the trunk..

Here in Sweden we have snow from nov til april, and I´ve never had any problems driving in it... As someone said before, go to a big parkinglot and drive the **** out of the car.. It´s the funniest and best way to learn how to handle a car rwd,fwd and 4x4...

And don´t come say that the tires are expensive.. Sounds like most of you buy another car in the wintertime..

Hehe, sorry if  I sound like a bad tomato :P.. But the thing is that, it´s almost never the car thats bad in snow, it´s the driver...

    :tomato:  :driving:

Here in the UK (talking about the south here, not scotland where they seem to get as much as you) we only get snow for at most a week a year, if that. No one spends £600 on a set of wheels that they are only going to use for one week a year. If you got any news stories from the UK over with you guys last year you would see that the whole of the uk comes to a standstill after the slightest dusting of snow.

At one point there was an eight hour traffic jam on the m1 cos no one could drive in it.

So snow tyres are not a valid suggestion in the UK, due to the lack of snow.

I guess the only option for us is as new tyres as we can get, load up the boot and traction off snow on. I just put a 4.5 stone sub in my boot, wonder what that will do to my handling?

  10. Guys I have just bought some pioneer Emotion speakers for front and rear to go with my Pioneer HU.

Here are the bad boys below:

    PIONEER-TS-E6996.jpg

    PIONEER-TS-E1796.jpg

With the rear shelf I want to have the speakers on show and I dont want to have to use the Lexus speaker covers. Is it possible to just rip off the rear speaker covers and use the speaker covers provided with my new Pioneer ones?

I plan to reline the back shelf with a black suede material because no doubt if I take off the OEM speaker covers you will see 2 square outlines left behind.

Will my new speakers fill up the holes completely or are the speaker holes in the shelf bigger resulting in my Pioneers going down through the rear shelf holes?

    GALLA_4

the rear speaker holes are huge, those will probably drop straight through get some 6mm mdf make two big ovals and cut out holes for your 6x9's in them. You will have to make a new mounting for the high level break light tho.

  11. Thanks for the reply, you make it sound so easy  :D

I have just got some new back speakers, do i have to get new ones or will the fronts be ok for the time being?

Trying not to spend too much cash im ment to be saving for my 3 1/2 week jaunt to OZ in october  :D

If i need the fronts, can  anyone recommend a good sounding reasonable priced set?

was gonna try and keep the front speakers and maybe change the backs as i;ve read there quite tricky to get to work properly with the new unit. I dont really want to put an amp/sub in just yet as the missus took a lot of convincing on the new head unit  :duh: and she needs as much space in the boot for all her bleedin shopping.

You definately need to change the back ones, the fronts you should really change too. Changing the speakers probably means new wiring too.

The whole thing is pretty straight forward. You are gonna need to make mdf pannels cut to the shape of the factory standard speakers outa 6mm mdf. This is so you can mount the new ones in the holes, two tear drop shaped ones for the front, 2 big ovals for the back. Probably best to get composite front speakers not components, i got components and the tweeters were a bitch to get in the space allowed in the factory standard tweeter covers.

running the wiring is easy from back to front, there is a guide here somewhere to take out the back seats and front door cards. run the new speaker wire up the passenger side of the car then the door speakers you need to run the wire through that flexi grommet thing. I unplugged all the door connectors from inside the car and pulled em out so i could feed the new wires through easy, all straight forward again. Run the wires either behind the glovebox or under the carpet to the center console. Solder em into an iso connector or the alpine one that came with the head unit. Piggy back the power, earth and ignition on. Keep all the old speakers, that way when you sell the car you can just plonk everything back into the car and plug the old head unit wire straight back in :)

This hole job took me about 6 hours including the cutting of the mounts etc. But I done this sort of thing on more cars than i care to count :) Its good fun tho, start on saturday morning and you should be done sunday night :)

I think the front will be ok tempararily, you shouldnt damage them at least. The backs were a definate tho. It is easy, just 6-8 hours of back breaking labour. Im in the middle of building my base box now, these jobs are never finished :)

  12. with that first photo you can play spot the gyppo's with no sunroof :) my favorite game

Impressive tho, what do you do when your there? (mostly donuts i bet :) )

Never been to a lexus specific meet, plenty of cruises in my time. Fed up of them now tho, is the "meet" atmosphere different usually?

  14. Where can i get those clear fog light covers in the boot lid?  May look good on my silver IS. They expensive? easy to change?

One of you all knowing fella's must know :)

eBay, Cheap & Easy to fit ;)

Any tips on what to search for? I just get hundreds of lexus light clusters for fords and saxos etc :(

I found some but they have $65 postage to the uk on the 3 ive seen. Thats seems a wee bit mental if you ask me.

Anyone found somewhere in the uk that sells em?

  15. Should I be expecting any change at all in the engines behaviour? Idle level? anything? Just wondering thats all.

Don't know about idle level, but if you had an auto box you'd feel the difference as the box has to "learn" your driving style again.

    Manual, IS200 sport for me

Didnt really expect any change but it would have been nice to know that if there was any change that i would know what to look for :)
