  1. Loading and unloading If a Parking Attendant considers that you may be loading or unloading he/she will observe the vehicle for a short period (20 minutes). If it appears to the Parking Attendant that the driver is not loading or unloading – e.g. the driver can be identified as being in a café having a cup of tea, or in a shop buying small items (paper, cigarettes etc.), a Penalty Charge Notice will be issued immediately. Drivers frequently park illegally just to pop into a shop etc. They are slowing down other traffic and increasing delivery times and costs for other business. Twenty pence in a meter can avoid a parking ticket. Wherever possible the City Council is putting in more short stay meters to assist drivers to park legally. Remember – you have 20 minutes to load and/or unload. If you exceed this time, a Penalty Charge Notice may be issued. Look at the signs and the road markings to determine if you can load or unload legally. Loading and unloading should be a continuous operation http://www.westminster.gov.uk/transportand...ndunloading.cfm
  2. Plates with the Euro Badge (Euro stars & GB). Do both front and Rear need to match ie. both must have it and not just the rear as a replacement for GB sticker. Halfords Guy told me must have on both plates front & rear. (legal requirement) Not sure if this is DVLA requirement & legal (offence;police) ?
  3. It would seem the stick on strips is the way to go. Which ones should I use and from where to buy. Some good strong strips.
  4. I started checking the Lexus site pre owned cars (Gs300) It seems if the dealers are drilling the holes that they have a set standard to drill high up. All the pictures indicate this. Having taken off the boot lid trim I cant understand why the holes are not placed further down since there is no obstruction inside of the boot lid and the body panel sheet is identical down below. But Colin you are right I was unscrewing and exactly as you describe. I will use the stick strips but also try to get the screws off first and screw in also if successful. (The screws dont look that bad if color matches)
  5. Rear Plate only. Just have this thought that I am doing high speeds and it flys off the body. Do also remember that the rear plate is non UK standard front plate its slightly larger on/for the GS300 rear. Some rear plates on other UK manufacturers are silly too big to match the rear body design.
  6. Mr. Morse, I have had a new plate made & its ready to be fitted although my drill (black & decker) packed in just after its guarantee ran out (not impressed) so i have a new plate that needs drilling and the screws in the fixings removed. I am reluctant to use the stick on strips and prefer it to be screwed. Just dont think the stick on strips are up to the weather conditions. Anyone know of any place that would be willing to help free of charge on a saturday morning.
  7. But Not sure if holes on body pre drilled by lexus at manufacture for UK Spec. I think they could be.
  8. I had to replace my existing number plate after the MOT advice was to do it since it had got very grubby and had bent. But old plate noticed on the 1998 GS Mk2 - the screws are positioned on top upper section of the plate fixings and similar the holes drilled are near top on the bodywork. One reason why the vertical bending across the plate I think also. But the yellow plastic screws are stuck in the holes with the screw tops snapped off. Cant seem to get them out. One problem to solve but has highlighted why the plate screws not centred to hold it more securely by the lexus dealers.
  9. Had my brakes (Discs & Pads) replaced today. The pads were very bad on drivers side nearly completely worn. The passenger side were also badly worn. The braking is now much firmer. Considerably more. Usual recommendation 200 miles for the pads to settle in. But one question on non-genuine (non lexus parts). The ADL disc was not an exact replica match. Although fully vented (although venting design different) but on the inner side there were no additional vents like on the ones replaced (similar to jet engine turbofans). I realize I have budgeted on costs but could this be a problem in any way.
  10. Thank you Mr. Morse. But my local autos Garage Jap Specialist is offering ADL Discs and Pads. I can only take satisfaction in the fact that after running with worn discs and nearly worn out pads that I get both items changed for future use. Although I am not an expert to know if such poor condition & usage affects other brake components. Hopefully not. The ADL deal on the Discs is £117.40 + vat (pair) a considerable saving on the Discs from Lexus. Any ADL people out there please let me know.
  11. Can someone also list some good Disc manufacturers/brands.
  12. Can people confirm that the front discs for 1998 Mk2 GS300SE are the following spec and in particular do they also have the 5 extra vented mountings on the original lexus discs. Cant seem to remember now when wheels were off last time. Thinking of ordering these. If anyone knows any others grateful for info. http://www.speedways.co.uk/shop/en-gb/dsk316.htm
  13. Yes ASAP. Firstly I found out very late but just glad that all is OK and all was OK. I am simply astonished and impressed that the braking is still very good but after the change it is likely to feel very different also. So I will find out how soft and spongy it may really have become.
  14. I Had the Discs measured. Both front are less then the minimum. Readings were 28mm +/-. Although the braking is still fine and it was time to renew the pads clearly its both Pad & Disc change time now sooner than later; maybe someone would like to add now urgent.
  15. Some relevant links I found http://www.popularmechanics.com/automotive...html?page=2&c=y http://www.apracing.com/roadcar/brakekit/stdrive.htm
  16. Cheers Colin & The runout not sure what this is ?
  17. My brake & money worries continue. Want to know if replacing only the front pads is ok given that the front discs may be slightly worn also. All advice greatly appreciated.
  18. Yes good advice. Thanks. Prices from lexus are as follows. Front Pads (set) £58.24 +vat (part number 04465-30320) Rear Pads (set) £34.44 +vat (part number 04466-30190) Front Discs (each) £74.22 +vat Cheaper non lexus parts are also available but I have been advised not to go for anything too budget as they could ware out much quicker. The part numbers if specified at a Toyata garage may also be available there. Hope this helps people with brake change ideas.
  19. I was talking to Lexus Oxford and amongst other things the guy told me Lexus Milton Keynes is 4-6 weeks away and should be opening in November finally. Good news for people around milton Keynes like myself it will be slightly nearer than Oxford. But Andrew also pointed out I come to Oxford anyway for the business.
  20. Another thing, whats the best place to get set of pads and front discs; from lexus or some place else. Clearly I am having a brake attack but cant afford to compromise on brakes for much longer. All those useless trips should have stayed at home to conserve fuel also. (Ha!)
  21. Thanks, So are you saying ideally the pads should be changed now rather than the marks getting worse
  22. Wanted to know because my Pads will need changing soon. But Discs are usually damaged by worn pads. There is no sound of any damage or wear and tear although still very smooth there are however visible circular markings on the shiny steel outer surface of the discs. So I was a little concerned. Just the front ones.
  23. When is it a good time to replace.
  24. OK. I reckon you got a good deal with the Cambelt job. Usually its approx £250 Job from my enquiries. Still anyone changed the drive belt themselves please feel free to write a few words.
  25. Hi, Not sure myself now which belt Chips is referring to. But I like you am very clear on that its the drive belt and not the cam(timing) belt. The timing belt is a different job altogether. Thats why I wanted to know it the drive belt which is visible is a DIY job. Even so is it easy to stretch, access and fit and does not require any pulleys to be removed or refitted or undone.
