  1. How do!

More of a reader than a writer but wanted to share this one to help the fellow GS crowd :D

I've changed from the OEM Yoko's onto Goodyear F1 assymetric 2's and what a transformation to the big Lex!

The steering has more feedback, and car does not tram line like it did and in damp/wet conditions they are so much better than the Yoko's.

I liked them so much, I've got a set on my WR1 as well :)

    Matty

  2. Some strange tyre pressures, I'd have thought 33psi way too low for the Lex.

I run 36 psi all around and it seems ok, with the Yoko's which will be swapped out for some Contis soon. can't stand the Yoko's when they are part worn

MPG is a strange one - my misses will run 33-37mpg constantly through the spring/summer, down to 30-33 in the winter due to extras being used on the car. when we go down to Newquay I get about 36-38mpg on each trip, taking a steady 70-80 and no more.. but when i use it for a few weeks, then i only see around 28-32 tops, but i'm a lead foot lol and i soooooooo love sport on the gearbox and suspension :) :)

the big old girl can certainly fly lol!!!

  3. You've clearly never driven a scoob in Scandinavia  I'm one of the organisers of one of the scoobie clubs... but in winter on ice and snow, it's useless with its slow diffs and chronic understeer.

The Lexus is actually used on the South French coast, so studs are a bit overkill, but they were the cheapest wintertyres I could get my hands on and I've had a few people with quattros etc scratching their head why they couldn't follow an old RWD Lexus on an icey Alpine road. :D

No, but I'm off to Sweden next month so maybe I should take the Scoob lol!! ;) Surely you need to develop your Scandinavian flick with any Scoob :D they do like to understeer!!

I'd love to see the faces of people watching the Lexus lol!!

  4. Mate if you're talking performance, then a 530 will not see what way the 450H has gone lol!!! We compared the E class 3.5D, 530D and XF Jag and surprisingly there MPG was not that different. The E class I drove had managed an average of 39mpg over it's 9000 mile life, poor! the 530 was not much better and the XF was awful!!! I hated that motor.....

I love the stealth attached to the GS, and the real world running costs for a 350bhp V6 are very very good imo!

Just wish it had more room in the boot, but you can fit 2 sets of clubs in ;)

When driving on sport settings on both gearbox and suspension etc, there's not a lot like it!!! Just need to get the Yoko's changed for something a little better......

Ours is a '58 SEL which was a smidge under 30K last January, a real bargain for the performance imo. Going into London is free and the tax bill is funny for such a big motor!!

I took 4 of us to the Haye vs Harrision fight in Manchester last month, 4 fat lads ;) no complaints and no fuss at all...

    Good luck shopping :D :D

PS - Just don't tell to many people about how good they are eh, I don't like to see to many on the roads lol ;)

  5. Ok real world mpg -

Me driving normally in sport and sport - average 31mpg, on a run down south and back 38+mpg

My misses, normal and very good driver - average 35mpg, on a run she can get over 40mpg regularly

Need to add - around town under 30mph, it generally runs on Battery and the MPG is much better, that's what it's good at!!!

This is current winter driving, the MPG increases through the summer. Car currently has 36K miles, so a good bench above :)

Ref Battery question - you can replace individual cells if failing, this shouldn't be a very big expense :) £100 a cell from memory.....

    hope that helps.

  6. Yupp, Vredestein Wintrac xtreme 245/40 R18 97W XL with rim protection ridge, M+S marking

Full speed and load rating needed for the car, standard size, no insurance notification required as they comply with vehicle manufacturer specification. It obviously helps that I started shopping around in August and made my purchase at the beginning of September whilst the sun was still shining.

As I see it, £150/corner is about the price you pay for a standard (summer) tyre. Whilst the winter tyres are on, for 6mths of the year, the summer tyres are in storage and not being worn. End result is that my standard tyres last twice as long and so my tyre cost, per year, is exactly the same - plus I get a considerably safer drive in the winter. You're going to spend £600 every 20k miles anyway, it may as well be on the correct rubber for the job....4 of them ;)

Superb tyres the Verds, just need to work out where to store the tyres out of season!!!

If I move on from the Scoob next year then the Bus will be getting some winter boots, no point at all right now and it's always funny watching the misses try and use the manual box on the Scoob lol!!!

  7. Priced up a set for the bus and thought the 1200 notes would be better spent elsewhere!!

£1200!!!! Give Lexus Sheffield a ring. They had a set of Vredestein winter tyres in last week, £170 a pop!

Right, off to Surrey!!!!!!!! (with 4 winter tyres)

Indeed. Paid under £600 for my set...fitted.

That's a bargain!!! Defo worth the investment at that price..... size 245/40's 18????

  8. Regarding the handling issues you guys report, perhaps the suspension set-up just doesn't suit you? Most car with low profile tyres are prone to tramlining, especially if the suspension geometry is setup with certain camber/tow settings. Are you seeing wear in any particular area of the tyre?

Perhaps a trip to somewhere that specialises in 4-wheel alignment would help, like Micheldever Tyre near Winchester. They could probably give advise on your setup and suggest changes to remove the behaviour you don't like.

I've owned a few motors with bigger setups, but think there could be something in the toe/camber setup. We've a place down the road who is supposed to be very good, might see if i can get a check over on the camber etc.... it's not something i've really encountered on my driving, but i wonder if this is affected with me mainly driving on sport settings???

  9. Thanks for your reply Matty, pressure same as yours, interestingly (or not ! ) I contacted the tech department at Pirelli to ask their advise as to what was going wrong, they replied saying their tyres are not tested on this vehicle and so not recommended for use and yet these tyres were brand new when the car was supplied to me by Lexus direct. Fresh rubber on the front is the only cure.

    Regards Tony

It's odd! Defo found it was more noticeable when i switched the rears onto the front... my misses says it feels like it is on ice and is really unsettling.. perhaps there is something on the steering? will get it checked over on the next service as maybe this is a bigger problem... that or one of the wheels is damaged internally which would explain why it is more noticeable after moving them around, we picked up the car with only lexus having owned it before and one of them has been refurbed, no one told us this.... reckon i'll get spending some time on this over christmas, will let you know what i find out...

  10. Priced up a set for the bus and thought the 1200 notes would be better spent elsewhere!! Luckily I've got the Scoob to get around in, but I did try and move the Lex yesterday only to get it stuck after moving about a foot lol!! The Yoko's are dire, really dire!!!! Same happened with the IS last year... So it looks like the Lex won't be moving for a couple of weeks and the misses is going to have to live with the Scoob :) at least the wheels aren't gold anymore :hehe:

  11. I give up !

What pressures are you running mate? I know what you mean about the loose front end, my misses reports it and then I always check the pressures. Currently I'm .1 PSI above the comfort (below 100mph) settings, this seems to help.

Tyre wise, I have Yoko's A10 front and back! IMO they are ok but not great, I run Goodyear F1 Assymetrics on my Scooby and find them outstanding, so will be giving them a go on the big bus next time around.

  12. Hey chaps, not been around for sometime....

How are you getting on with your Rodders?

Just want to offer a 10 month feedback on the GS - man alive do i love it!!! such a more complete car than the IS and does it shift or what!!! Above 30 mph my Impreza can't live with it.....

On a trip across europe I got to see the Vmax and was very very impressed with the speed and stability at speed.

Just don't go telling to many people though, I'd hate to see more of them on the roads lol :shutit:

    Matty - enjoy B)

ps - it can even take my 9' long board padded on the roof
