I have a 2001 is 200 auto.
this vehicle is still under the dealership warrenty and has been back to them on 3 occassions with no results so far. When the weather is dry underfoot i have a knocking from what appears to be the front o/s. This happens when breaking (either hard or soft ) and turning. If i break in a straight line there is no knocking at all. If the road is wet or it is raining there is no knocking. To be fair the dealer at Cumnor Oxford have been very good in trying to find this fault. However they dropped the front suspention 2 weeks ago and repplaced a part. When the car was returned it seemd fine until the weather changed and the road surface became dry, the knocking has returned, does anyone have any ideas or had something simular.
MANY THANKS :
Not sure but sounds like lower ball joint, have been to hell and back to work out probs like this on mine and had that replaced and its puurrrrrfffic
Not sure but worth checking

Has the car been in an accident?
Has the suspension been pushed back on one side ?
Don't know any thing about your model, but this sound like an alignment problem
Someone with more info will probably know and send in a post.
Dont know if this helps or is even on the right track but I had exactly the same with different gaps behind wheels etc.
The problem with my car was a bent/ damaged lower ball joint.
Please see post (at my wits end in this section)
Good luck

it sounds like the car had quite a big smash - is the car itself straight??
It did have quite alot of damage but mainly cosmetic.
The only running gear parts were rear hub and fron sub frame.
I have been back to the garage who did the allignment since and we have got it sorted. The car now drives absoloutley spot on and the print out is very close the target toes etc.
Front camber 0.24 (both)
Toe (0.03) Both
Backs are the good too.
And the culprit was a ben lower ball joint on the n/s.
The other thing that is worth mentioning is that the tale tale sign was the o/s wheel was sitting further back in the whel arch than the o/s which I am told made the KPI all wrong !!!
So there you go a new ball joint was all it was, bit annoying though as it was supposed to be new anyway, but the garage says it had not been put on correctly and tigtened enough.
I am not sure if the service they offer is full geo but even so they sorted my problem when even Lexus scratched there heads !!!
The garage is in Haywards Heath West Sussex
Elite garages 01444 417451 the guy who helped me is Phil.
Cheers for all your help on this

unlikely, but have you checked tyre pressure?? big differences can cause veering in either direction.
what about suspension??? could a spring be fecked???
just a couple of ideas
Cheers for the rapid reply.
I have had the tyres checked and changed front to back, and no difference.
The suspension is all new on the front, and new o/s rear hub on the rear also had new subframe on the front and drop links and car has tte roll bars.
Thanks for your suggestions I have just had a look around and wonder if I should take a day out to see the Doctor ??

wouldn't be a bad idea. guess its a case of eliminating possibilities until its sorted.
hope you sort it out
How do I contact the Geo Doc ??
send him a pm: wheels-inmotion.co.uk
no doubt he'll be along either tonight or tomorrow and post in this thread. keep your eyes peeled. :D
Cheers appreciate your help ;-)

As full as I know
Basically camber and toe.
Rear camber and toe adjusted
Front camber and toe adjusted.
However I am not sure if that is full geo ??
Thanks for the speedy replies this forum seems awsome

Good evening all.
This is my first post to the forum and I am very pleased to join.
I have a long story to tell but will spare you all the fine details.
Basically I bought a damaged repaired is200 200se.
I am sure the car was owned by someone on here as it had a gold owners club sticker in the rear window . The reg no is gr03 vnz Black is200 se
Anyway I have spent a small fortune on getting this car back together and have relpaced a lot of parts. ££££
I have finally come to getting the car back on the road and am having some problems geting it driving straight. The car has been laser alligned and drove perfectly. A few miles after the allignment I noticed a knocking noise from the front n/s wheel. Basically the wheel nuts where loose. doh
I took it back after tightening the wheel nuts !!
The guy re alligned it all and I have a print out to say it is perfect but it pulls left !!!!
Am at my wits end as they say the car is straight and would not geo the way it does if ther was other problems, any ideas ????
Sorry its a long first one but you guys all seem on the case.

Lesson learnt for sure !!
I was going to contact you after the garage had tried on more time and on that attempt they found the cause.
Thanks for clarifying it in the way you have though much appreciated.
Will contact you as soon as I need it alligned next time. (hopefully not next week when the new tyres go on !!!!!!!!!)
Thanks to all
