  1. Ah, I’ve finally found other 450h+ owners!

I suffered the same re driver alert and have turned it off as suggested. I’m struggling to turn off the multiple beeping/check rear seat thing. The instructions I’ve found only seem to relate to the NX not the RX which has a slightly different menu in the Utility option.

It’s reassuring it’s not some kind of fault but have you guys managed to turn it off?

  2. Thanks - my V5 arrived yesterday and I collected my car on the same day as you!

I followed comedians advice and tried a short journey using the navigation and no message appeared.

I never got my 2015 NX to talk properly to mylexus but am keen to use the download route feature. Once I get time I will give it a go.

Hope you enjoy your new NX - I am finding the new features are handy!

  3. I think you might have got to the issue thank you - I can’t complete my registration on mylexus until my V5 arrives. I got an email from them saying they have recognised my infotainment system via the portal details I used to log in on the navigation but need to assign it to my vehicle.

To do this I need certain characters from my V5.

Hopefully that should do the trick!

  4. Just picked up the new 2018 NX (had the 2015 model previously).

Drove to Manchester trying to make sense of the less than intuitive new navigation which isn’t that easy to read and this warning message popped up!

It won’t go away even after a reboot. Clicking OK or back makes no difference.

I think it may be because I tried to find the part where you log in to connected services but simply couldn’t find it!

Interestingly the manual with the car shows the old more familiar navigation software so is useless!

Any ideas? Obvs will be phoning Lexus tomorrow 😊

  5. We live up on the Pennines in Ripponden, West Yorkshire. One of my sister's colleagues rather foolishly attempted to drive over the tops on the moor road along with a few landrovers (he was in a Jag!) and this is what happened: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8446200.stm

The RX400h has been brilliant in the snow. We live on a steep hill and have had 8" of snow, at least. On the fresh stuff, the car has tip toed quite sure footedly and got where other cars haven't. I have taken the opportunity to test it on the flat and get used to how it handles, but the traction control has kept the car going where I have pointed it. I would say that on the whole, the hybrid has been a little bit superior to my previous RX300 and RX350s. I can only hypthesise that as the system is motor driven, the electronics are controlling the delivery of quite finely as opposed to the propshaft driven rear wheels having power then having to be braked again (OK - its only a theory!).

I did manage to test the car to get it stuck getting home on Wednesday. Faced with either going up steep hill or down steep hill (we live half way up and can approach from either way, albeit with quite a detour of coming down), I elected to go up. Basically, the lack of low range on the RX founded that decision as the only way of otherwise slowing the car is with a little engine braking (in B mode) and a light touch of the brakes. I didn't want to risk bobsleighing down with the ABS light flickering! The hill in question is about a 1:6. and I got about 100 metres up before the car just stopped. Its a bit weird with the hybrid compared to a petrol car, as it when there is no grip to be found, it just cuts all the power and the car goes silent. In a petrol car, you could rev the engine hard and spin the wheels instead. A friend came out of the house and proceeded to shovel ice off the road in front of each of the wheels, and then I would manage another 6-10 feet until stopping again. At one point, the car slid backwards about 18" with all the brakes on and in Park!!! Well, with perseverance, I got home. That was certainly a slippery road, and the only other car I know that made it, was aforementioned friend, who tackled it with an old Isuzu Trooper complete with 4 wheel diff locks and low ratio. All in all, I don't think the RX did bad at all. In fact, it is making me ponder whether to get a spare set of wheels with some winter tyres on, if they can be had for a reasonable price. After all, that contact patch between the car and road is all important, and I think that the car could inspire more confidence, particularly with respect to braking in bad weather, if it has the kind of rubber that works well below 7C.

I too am pleased with my RX400h snow performance. It goes well with a light touch on most side roads here in Bradford but best avoid the really steep hills (up or down) as the B setting isn't enough to brake the engine downhill, and going up a steep hill gets you stuck as you say.

My business partner also has the same car and we are both truly convinced that your theory about decent software sensing slip and engaging the rear elec motor is spot on. Also I reckon the electric motor may well provide more torque at low speeds to keep you moving.

My wifes Merc has been left abandoned for two days at the top of a steep hill (safely off road) and I recovered it yesterday when the temp reached a balmy 1 degree C, and the Lexus has been my family's lifeline all week!

  6. Please don't take this wrongly I do not wish to offend anyone but.....if you have isofix in your vehicle it would be foolish not to use them.....seriously they provide an infinity better solution to child restraints than adult belts. Of course if you already have child seats that are not isofix then of course they can be used but how much is your childs safety worth?

Sorry I sound like a zealot, but I work in the industry and know exactly what happens during tests.....let alone on the road with all the variables thrown in!

    Best regards David

Absolutely agree here - chucked all my old seats when got Isofix - they fit like rock.

The crucial thing here is to assess your eldest in the middle seat - take him/her to the dealer and assess the belt fitting - the minimum height to go without a booster is 135cm I think, but at the rate kids grow you may not have to wait long!

Its all a question of timing - when to buy, how big will kids be for the duration of ownership....I too have three and eventually will have to buy a HGV

  7. Interesting thread for two reasons to me:

    1. My business partner has a 400h like me and his Battery went flat after he spent an evening listening to his stereo whilst having a barbecue at a campsite. RAC confirmed that the 400h is "well known for having an undersized battery"

    2. Having been duly warned, I parked my 400h in my garage leaving good access to the engine compartment when I went away for three weeks. Yup, it was as flat as a pancake when I got back. AA started it for me and I took it for a 10 mile fast drive. No further problems, although having to reprogram my driving position was annoying, and it still doesn't feel quite right....!

    Lexus, we need more POWER!

  8. I got a real bad knocking noise out of my Lexus last summer after about 2000 miles. It sounded like metal hitting metal and only happened at low speeds especially on speed bumps.

I went crazy checking wheel nuts and poking around with the heat baffles around the exhaust as I was convinced it was coming from under the car. Got my hands dirty and everything. Even thought the wife may have driven it over a kerb or something...

Took it to Lexus with the vague "it makes a clunking sound when I go over a bump" complaint, fully expecting them to say nothings wrong and go and live with it.

How wrong I was - it was the DVD player under the drivers seat that had come loose.

I am sorry yours didnt turn out to be the same.

  9. Had my RX 400h for 48hours and I have 2 issues :

Front parking sensor beeping continuously for no reason :duh: .

Main issue became apparent ,when I tried to park on the hill in a residential area ( 8%-10% gradient ), with the gear in D ,the car rolled back ( car was pointing uphill) when I taken my foot off the accelerator .to apply the brake .

Made a 3 point turn so the car was parked, facing downhill ,tried to manoeuvre with the gear in R ,the car rolled forward when I taken my foot off the accelerator .

I am baffled ,I read the owners manual ( 450 pages) and I cant find any reference to hill start.

    Question :

    Is this a problem ?

    Or

    They all do this Sir!

For the past 20 years I had automatics ( Mercedes ) so I figured out by now how to park a car on a hill , on a normal auto weather in D or R when you are on a gradient the gear "holds" the car

The car is going back to the dealer tomorrow , to have the parking sensors fixed and the second problem debated. If any of you chaps can advice I much appreciated .

I like the car and ticks all my requirements , but the issue with the hill parking is unnerving .

    Regards

    Rob

Your front parking sensors were probably a dealer fit or fitted at the port of entry, whichever way they fall into the category of "not done by the Lexus factory". Such things have proved a weak point in my experience.

The hill start thing is not a problem - many modern autos do this now, the first time it happened to me was with am 03 Honda CRV and I am sure I read somewhere there was a reason (such as fuel economy) for manufacturers adopting this.

    Good luck

  10. Get exactly same problem with my Samsung D900. Had a Samsung SGH Z130 before which always wanted confirmation to connect to hands free, but did not produce the rasberry like the D900

V Loud raspberry noise with Samsung D-500 and Nokia 6230i. Embarrasing. I am frequently finding that people cannot hear me properly and have taken to parking up and switching off the car to disconnect Bluetooth. Then just use the mobile to my ear so they can hear.

    Kind of defeats the object.

Wifes E-Class has a cradle (no bluetooth) and the car brings a strong signal via an inbuilt aerial. Much better reception but soooo uncool.

  12. When I got my 400h I had a Nokia 6230 and the dealer transferred my phone book whilst I was doing the paperwork at the handover.

Now I have a Samsung D-500 which connects fine, but I wanted to update the phone book in satnav as numbers have changed and been added to in my contact list.

So, I deleted the old phone book, but cant get my new one on!

It fails when it says "transfer contacts from phone" as there isnt an option to do this on the phone. I transferred my sim back to my old 6230 but still couldnt do it.

Anyone any idea what to do, or is back to the dealer again?

    Cheers

  13. Hi

Bought my 400h Se-L in March.

Found that the remote control wouldnt operate the in car DVD player, only the screens. Took it back to the dealer who took the car for a day, as they said the seats need to come out for access, and then told me they needed to order a part.

Car went back in, they fitted the part and the remote worked. However, when I tried attaching a second DVD player to the AUX wiring sockets, on one screen no video signal was received, on the other the picture from the in car DVD and the external player were "mixed". Audio was fine. Took it back. They booked car back in. They took it for the day, came back NOT fixed. Not happy. Took it back, when they had an aftermarket guy on premises. He tried to tell me its not going to work - you cannot have two players running at once. I smelt BS. Suggested we try my ext DVD player on a brand new SE-L they had in the showroom. Damn it! It was the same as mine! Left dejected, but determined.

During my conversation with the aftermarket guy, he told me that all these players are fitted at Portbury on importation to the UK. Probably by some cackhanded pillocks I thought. He then told me how it all works - there is a control box for each screen controlling video, audio is split through the player to the LEDs.

Went home. Raised both seats and stuck my hand up the back of each seat and found a black box velcroed under there. Carefully lifted the box down and compared the two. Guess what? The idiots had reversed the leads, so the ext DVD was feeding into the wrong input [same as the in car player]. Unplugged and put them right ..... FIXED IT!!! Was jolly happy, rang the dealer and told him to fix the one in the showroom!

Now, apart from boasting about my technical prowess, there is a point to this - Lexus are supplying badly fitted kit [judging by the fact that mine and the showroom one are both wrong]. So watch it!

  14. Anyone else at home?

My 2 yr old once grabbed the keys to my CRV and managed to flatten the Battery by setting the alarm off while it was in the garage...this morning was chatting to a neighbour and the Lex locked/unlocked itself 3 times! It was him again....

keyfob in your pocket? Thats happened to me loads - especially with a mobile stuffed in there too.

Best keep your keys in the safe til your sure..

  15. Picked my RX400h a couple of days ago, and the manual for the DVD player is missing. Dealer has ordered me one, but kids are giving me grief about watching a DVD in there so I tried to make it all work without the book.

    Ach who needs a manual?

Anyway, can get the thing on, can view the film, but cant do any of this without nearly crippling myself poking about under the seat pressing buttons on the DVD player. The remote works fine on the screens, but the player doesnt respond when I point and press at it.

Also, the picture is "cinemascope" letter box style, and changing it to zoom looses a lot of quality.

    Can anyone help?

  16. Funny, but the low depreciation is what attracted me to Lexus, I pick up my Rx400h at the weekend.

Just to put some figures in perspective, contrast my three current cars:

1993 Honda CRX VTi [Electric Roof] - cost new £18500, current value £3500 [as estimated from www.delsoluk.com]

2003 Honda CRV Se Sport Sat Nav - cost new £20500, current value £12000 to trade [priced by Honda Dealer]

2003 Renault Espace 3.0dCi Initiale - cost new £33500, current value £12000 to trade [as p/ex to Lexus Rx400h] OUCH!

Badly burned by Renault, had many faults - just had new engine management system fitted under warranty, be glad to get rid.

Got the RX400h SE-L on PCP, MGFV is £18116 - is it too optimistic to hope for more in three years??

    Bladgb, penniless but happy!
