In 6th gear I get a loud rumbling noise which increases with acceleration. The dealer says its not important but can be cured by fitting a re-designed part to rear axle.
Unfortunately I am just out of warranty, has anyone else experienced similar?

My 220d manual has a really loud rumbling noise when in 6 th gear.It gets worse when accelerating.Lexus dealer advises that this is not an unusual problem but because my car is 5 months out of warranty I have to pay for alterations myself.
Anyone else with this experience ?

i believe the limits in the handbook are only a recommendation and are not a rule.
what caused the dealer to have a look at the cam belt in the first place??
If yours is damaged, then i would suggest contacting lexus to see what can be done and if they will give u a "good will gesture" replacement.
thanks,you make a good point

Lexus dealer tells me that cam belt tensioners are prone to slipping causing chipping to cam belt.Car is 38 months old average miles, manual says belt should last 6 years ???? Is this manufacturers fault?
Grateful for any help

Rear Differential Mountings
in Engine & Transmission
Posted
Hi,
My 2006 Lexus has a loud drumming or booming noise in 6th gear.Lexus advise that it can be aleviated by changing the rear differential mountings which have now been modified to avoid this on later cars, and sound proofing the rear quarter panels.
My car is out of warranty and I am second owner, however, it has FSH.This job will cost in region of 750.00 has anyone else experienced this or is there any advice out there.
