  1. I have an issue at work that is totally baffling me (and so far the only dba-like person we have here at the moment) and wondered if there were any Oracle DBA's here who might be able to help?

In brief its to do with applying oracle archive logs to a standby database, and for some reason the recover process is occasionally requesting an archive log that it has previously processed. i.e. as a simple example its processing say logs 5,6,7,8,9,10, then suddenly wanting 7 again!

It's as if the standby is suddenly being reverted back to a previous state but I cannot understand how this is even possible, let alone what might be causing it or how I can trace what might be causing it.

Been trying to search meta-link and google for answers but so far no clue.

  2. i swear iv seen ur car on ebay! was it for sale or did u buy it from ebay? looks nice!!!

The guy I bought it off many months ago now had it on eBay for a while - he was local to me so I just went and saw it and made him an offer etc.

  3. Look nice but like others have said - not that practical for the UK. I got mine with the car but would never buy a set of chromes myself, especially if they are expensive imported ones. I would even stay away from polished rims for the same reason. Unfortunately for this country the best option is a decent painted/laqured finish.

I have had mine on through the winter and done about 10,000 miles with them on and don't really clean them that often. They are still generally o.k. but I can see the corrosion starting already. If I still have the car when they get in a real state I will prob get them stripped and repainted/laqured in a new finish cos I do like the style.

  4. It's certainly possible to "rip" DVD's and put on the video ipods, but you will need to download some tools and stuff. Personally I don't use iTunes or anything like that and I suspect it won't be possible using iTunes or "official" software as essentially bought DVDs are encypted and you need slightly hookie tools to decrypt and rip the bought DVD and convert to a format so the iPod can display it.

See here for one (free) tool:

  5. Ok guys maybe u can help me here, I had a acciedent it was repaired by insurance people an given back to me. Would this be put into any of the Catergorys? for when I sell it on? Would I have to tell the person I was selling it, I had a acciendent & that the insurance people have fixed it all up?

As already said, only way to be sure is to do a hpi type check yourself before putting it up for sale, it should not be listed but best to check.

I had an insurance write-off once (not the Lex), got a 7k payment, bought the car back from the insurance company for about 1k, got it repaired for 3k = 3k cash in pocket :) and it was not listed as any sort of write-off or damaged-repaired when I sold it. Although I prob eventually spent most of the extra 3k on mods and stuff anyway...

  6. Does anyone have any knowledge of off roading in the mountains of spain?

I am planning a holiday to spain with a few of us with a van and off road motorbikes, just tavelling about and riding trails and stuff. But at this early stage I have no idea on the legality of ragging a motorbike accross mountain trails and stuff. Obviously in the UK we have a lot of defined bridleways and footpaths and stuff (and not many byways) but is it the same sort of thing in Spain or is it just a free-for-all up in the mountains?

Anyone know anything about that sort of stuff? any help/advice appreciated.

  7. Mines got the standard sport tints plus the previous owner did the front sides to a supposedly legal tint to (nearly) match. Looks sweet in my opinion and no cons at all, even in low light or darkness never had any probs with the front sides as they are legal.

Could help against casual/opportunist thieves but my advice would be to not leave anything in view anyway. If its the new audio install you are worried about then surely tiniting the back will not have any effect on what they can see in the dash anyway?

  8. codlord...looking good there mate, we dont conform like the rest... CWEST rules!!!!

heh heh, I prefer them to the other style, but then I would... unfortunately one of them now has a massive stone chip right in the middle of them :( need to sort that out but not been able to get any paint out of my local Lexus dealer - they are useless sometimes.

  9. I know there are some PC gamers out there, can anybody give me some advice getting steam/HL2 deathmatch/CS:Source stuff to work online.

I am trying to set up a private multiplayer game between me and a mate. We both have legit registered copies of steam and the games. We can both play the games and both join other internet servers no prob. We can both see each other on steam friends lists, chat etc. Both have just windows xp firewall, no other software firewalls/security software in place.

If I create a server he cannot see it at all (even if I expose my PC on the DMZ of my router).

If he creates a server I can see it via steam on my friends servers but when I try and join I get an error:

"Lan servers are restricted to local clients (class C)"

Now I understand what this error is saying - it seems to be thinking I am joining a LAN game and becuase my IP does not match my mates IP we can't play a LAN game, but this is an internet game - whats the deal - I though steam would make this easy but seems not.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Ta

  10. Ok you guys, what's the trick? I spent 2 hours last night trying to get that damn plug out of the amp and the bloody thing won't budge. I can get my hand to it - just - but even with the tag pushed in it wouldn't move an inch!!! I've unclipped the wires to it, and although they're still quite rigid they do have a bit of movement. But it's like the thing is welded in!!! :shutit: Sooooo disappointed, thought I was gonna have it all up and running last night but had to give up due to scratched, bruised, battered, numb hands/fingers!!! :tsktsk:

Have you unbolted the amp from the frame holding it in place? If you unbolt, with a bit of gentle force and movement you can just about get it away from the frame slightly and move it out towards you, then I took off the plastic door trim piece (just pops off) and then you can pull away the plastic side piece below the glove box to give yourself another way of getting your hand to the plug. Thats how I did it anyway. Then you just have to force it back into place on the mounting.

  11. When mine need replacing I am going to get Federal SS-595

That link to mytyres.co.uk is for 19" so your size should be cheaper than that.

I had a couple of sets of these on my last car and they were the best tyres I had on it for grip and wear (compared with Falken, Toyos) and cheaper than a lot of tyres too, so gonna try some on the Lexus next time.

I have Kuhmo Ecsta on at the moment and think they are good for wear but not the best grip I have had.

  12. A question regarding the speakers.......Will any after market 6x9's fit in the Lexus covers on the parcel shelf, or do I need to look out for a particular type/size?

And regarding the installation........Is it easy to take the centre consol apart for fitting, 'cos after a brief inspection I can't see any obvious fixings/clips around the air vents and top shelf!!!

Thanks for your help guys............ :winky:

    Removing/Fitting headunit see: this thread

re: 6x9's I think the room above the shelf is fine, the issue is usually the depth of the speakers in the boot in that aftermarket ones can encroach on the metal bars on the boot hinges, so usually have to be "lifted" up with some MDF or something on the shelf.

  13. So to all you guys who have tried and tested it, are you still happy with the job it does with the factory-fitted speakers? Do you advise giving it a go? And should I be looking for anything particular when buying my new h/u?

Yes, still very happy with mine, speakers seem fine, no probs. But I would not say its much better than the stock headunit, perhaps a little but nothing significant, the reason I replaced mine was just to get proper aux-in for my iPod as thats pretty much all I listen to nowadays.

Don't think you need to look for anything in particular in a new headunit. As discussed before if you want to keep the orange illumination your choices are quite limited.
