  1. That looks very nice mate. Everyone's car on here always looks cleaner than mine though.
  2. Hi Pete Many thanks for your reply. The front Aircon is on constantly but I will now put the rear air con on as I'm using it tomorrow. I would hat to think what work is involved replacing seals for the rear air con unit so I will switch the rear one on once a week. Thanks again. Jim.
  3. Morning Just a quickie. I read somewhere that air conditioning should be used for 10 minutes about once a week or so to stop all the seals from drying out. Now this isn't a problem in my LS as the air conditioning is on all the time. What I was wondering is do I have to use the rear airconditioning as well to stop that going wrong or is it part of the front air conditioning so I don't have to bother? I hope that made sense. Many thanks.
  4. Awsome car. I'm six foot 4. Would I fit in it?
  5. Well the "government " is not going to dictate which car I shall be driving. I will swallow the extra in car tax and feel real smug watching all those greenies sweat it out in their little euro **** boxes.
  6. I thought that the red light was for oil pressure and the orange one warned of oil level. Still wouldn't trust the orange light. I was always told to trust the dipstick.
  7. I do like the Saab but all I can think of is Vectra in drag. I had a go in a 93 convertable a couple of years ago and it reminded me a little of my old Vauxhall Cavalier in the way it handled and drove. £20,000 can get you a very nice LS430. That's my 10p's worth. Good luck and I hope you enjoy it if you go for it though.
  8. What I used to do with my old 2001 GS300 was either use manuall mode (which you don't have) or get your speed down before the bend, move the gear selector into the most appropriate gear, accelerate out the bend and then select drive once you have done.
  9. First thing I would try is the cheapist option and that is to replace the bulbs. I think they can be purchased for around £80 each. The bulbs can last for a long time and it wouldn't suprise me if your car still has the original bulbs. After trying new bulbs, if that doesn't work then it could well be the ballasts or as Toyota call them, the ECU's.
  10. I was daft enough to buy a copy of Whatcar magaziene over the weekend and I noticed a section in the back about purchasing a used Audi A4. In the section entitled "What to look for" were problems of excessive oil consumption, problamatic central locking which dealers find hard to repair, clutch and gearbox problems which didn't go into much detail, and last but not least, dashboard rattles. Seems the IS is not the only premium brand car suffering with this problem. Just thought I'd pop this up to see what people think.
  11. When I connected my Ipod to my Bose system at home, it was very quiet. But when I had a play about with the Ipod, I found somthing in the settings sections which keeps the volume of the songs the same. Once I switched this off, the neighbours, street, county etc was hearing what I had on my Ipod. Just make sure you turn your stereo off when you turn the sound leveler off on your Ipod.
  12. When I bought my 2004 LS430 from a Lexus main dealer last September, part of the deal I struck with them was to replace the DVD witn the most up to date one. I know they have done this because when you press the dvd button, it says the year of the disc is 2007. I don't have any other dvd discs with it though as other people seem to have 3 of them for Europe. Should the dealer have given me two other discs as well or is the system different from the older shape LS430?
  13. Well, mines the same size but I can assure you, it has lots more dirt on it than that IS your parked next too. I've managed to turn the boot of my black car almost white. I must admit, I feel very guilty about it. I recently put my back out and didn't fancy siting there for a couple of hours polishing it. I've got a man coming out to do it for me.
  14. That is a fine looking LS400. I'm assuming from the registration letter that it is a mark 1. It certainly puts my 2004 LS430 to shame in terms of shiny paintwork. I have a man coming round in a few Saturdays time to detail mine so I shall put a couple of pics up once he has worked his magic.
  15. I know exactly what you mean. I spend all week in an automatic Nissan Micra driving school car. Going from a 1.2 to a 4.3 is amazing. Makes my Monday mornings even worse though when I go back to the Micra.
  16. Thanks Spikes I have just had a good look through their web site and was impressed. I am going to book it in for the full valet at £85 but I'm not going to have the engine cleaned and dressed. To be honest, with that big silver cover over that awsome V8 engine, you can't see anything anyway. I shall put a few pics up after it is done. Thanks again.
  17. Evening all. I was out in my Lexus today and was appauld to see how filthy it is. I have managed to turn the original colour from Astral Blcak to dirty grey. Now there just isn't enough hours in the day at the moment to clean it myself and having polished it twice since I've had it (ended up with one arm much bigger than the other), I just don't fancy doing it myself. I'm based in Hoddesdon in Hertfordshire (jct 25 off M25 and just a short trip north on the A10) and was wondering if anyone could recomend a mobile valleting company to come and give the old girl a damn good wash and a polish. I don't mind spending up to £100 having it done. Many thanks. P.S. I wasn't sure weather to start this thread in the detailing section or not.
  18. It just goes to show that the new iphone has alot to live up to.
  19. Crikey. Someone must have thought that this was a good idea. Looks like it was thrown through the plastic upgrade parts section of Halfords and then repeatedly shot with a silver paint gun. Not my cup of tea I must say.
  20. Thanks for the heads up on that one. I have read somthing about this happening on the odd occasion when I pick the hand book. It would be interesting to know weather the alarm comes up after a certain amount of time or if the car knows it's dirty and needs changing. I believe the filters are in the glove box and can be removed by taking out the shelves. But, everyone probably already knew that.
  21. Hi Anthony You got a real nice car there and a preety good price too. I've had my 2004 LS430 now for about 6 months and I love it to bits. I drove it yesterday from Cambridge to Hertford after spending all week in my Nissan Micra driving school car. I love how lazy the engine is. At 60mph it's just doing 1500 rpm. How lazy is that. I'm averaging about 22mpg at the moment. After the warrenty has run out in September I was thinking of having the oxygen sensors replaced and having it chipped. I hope that might make the mpg a little better. Good luck with your new car.
  22. When I last went to Nice in the south of France I managed to hire an Alfa Romeo GT diesel. I must admit I did kind of like it, for 2 minutes. The interior wasn't as well built as that of a Peugeot 206 (and that's saying somthing), the central display constantly said it was full of oil when it didn't have any, and it all ended in a big pool of oil and smoke in the middle of Monte Carlo. Yes, I know, your all thinking "don't be gentle, it's a rental" but all I did was rev up to 2,000 rpm and let the clutch come up lightly then BOOM. Had a Toyota Avensis diesel after. Well if you can compare character to unreliability, then Alfa Romeo has character in spades.
  23. Sorry to hear about your tale. I know accidents can and do very occassionally happen but in this case I might have found it very hard to keep my cool if someone said to me that they were struggling with big pedals. I remember a few years ago when someone went into the back of me they said that somthing happend to their car. The brakes didn't work. It was a foreign gentlemen driving a c class Merc. As soon as he said that, I got the police involved and on the scene as he admitted that his brakes were faulty and was ready to drive off. Turned out that nothing was wrong with his brakes and he was prosocuted for wasting police time.
  24. I once saw a serise three GS300 on ebay which was stolen recovered. I wouldn't have thought that hot wiring the car was a posobility. What they tend to do now is break into your house and look for the keys which I think was the case of the car on ebay. Another thing you can do is disconect the earth lead if you are really worried. Most theives wouldn't have the time or the inclination to figure out why your car won't start, let alone why the steering wheel would not move once the key is inserted into the ignition.
  25. I must admit, this is next on my shopping list. I drove one at a Lexus open day and at the time I had a GS300 and my word, did it make it feel ropey. Now I have an LS430 I don't think it is worlds apart from the LS460. But, there is one proviso, I will not be getting one if it does not come with the pink flamingo on the hood like on Tom Ford's LS400 and that's that.
