  1. i lost my keys and tried starting the car by removing the white ignition module holding the cluster of ignition wires and the car started. at first i thought my keys were hiding in the car but i had locked the car with central lock button on the key. does the altezza start without the key present cos i thought the key has some sort of transmitter in it.

  3. hey there..did you manage to sort out yo transmision problems? if so I would appreciate to know how.. my Altezza As200 also ahs an on and off problem; Reverse sometimes does not engage, does nt happen everytime though.. have changed oil etc.
  4. I started my Altezza (As200) as normal yesterday and the car started and died after two seconds.. I tried restarting and the sound as it was ckranking sounded like a car with no compression or a snapped cambelt.. I suspected the the cambelt because it was due for a change..(car has 120k and my Lexus dealer said its safe until 150k) anyway having resigned myself to a damaged engine, bent valves etc.. I stripped the cambelt covers and the belt was in place. I carefully rotated the engine with a spanner checking the belt for missing teeth.. nothing. I removed the belt and tensioner and checked the belt again.. no loose teeth. i am not sure how the tensioner is when its worn.. what seems to be the problem and is it likey the engine has taken damage from my one attempt to restart?
  5. Tried checking my linkages underneath and adjusting a little. Still problem persists.. sometimes occurs more when the car is not level. Any help Would any one know if hooking up the car on the Diagnosis machine will pick up this problem?

  7. Nope, an oil change did not fix the problem. any more suggestions pls
  8. Thanks. Well I confess I have not changed the oil since I got the car. I got it at 98 000km now its 107 000. will try oil change and update.
  9. I have a small problem I need help with. Sometimes a few days ago I engaged reverse in As200 and nothing happened. For a scary moment i thought the gearbox is dead.. then I put it back to Park and engaged Reverse and immediately it engaged. Its an on and off problem.. what I notice is when i put it to Park, after a few seconds there is a "click"... if i put reverse I after that "click" its fine, Reverse engages easily. I checked the oil its fine, is there something I need to check or adjust on the selector or something,.. like I said its on and off this problem..
  10. thanks guys.. by the way what colour would you recommend for my calipers.. I am looking to paint them. And here is another nagging question.. how resilient is the sunroof against a hailstorm? I got a scare two days after reciveing the car..just after a good wash heavy rain started falling in the distance about a 4km away..called a friend over there and he told there is a serious hailstorm going on .. I had horror images in my mind of my car's roof and bonnet with numerous small dents ... needless to say the neighbours had a good laugh seeing scrambling to cover the roof, bonnet, windscreen and boot with large cardboards.. luckily storm ended and didnt come close to my house.. :)
  11. for starters a DVD player, performance pipe, explore the chipping the reprogramming of ECU option. I asked some reputable tuning places and they gave me a not so bad price. Some Xenons would be nice.. for now I have replaced my parking globes in the headlights with some nice red ones..
  12. I have been driving the car for a week now and its perfect... I took a few pics. (finally found that engine number!!!) http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l85/nhlanhla/altez.jpg http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l85/nhlanhla/alt.jpg http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l85/nhlanhla/altezza6.jpg http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l85/nhlanhla/altezza5.jpg http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l85/nhla.../altezza2-1.jpg
  13. Can anyone help with the location of the engine number for lexus IS200, i have been searching for days on the engine bay and its not on the VIN plate
  14. If you pop the hood there is a vin plate beside the battery on the engine firewall. This should contain the engine number. Welcome to LOC! There is the Plate that has MODEL- some alphabets, ENGINE - 1G-FE, but with no number, and FRAME number..which I assume is the chassis number with GXE10-00**. Is that it or is there a number on the engine block somewhere?
  15. I picked up my car yesterday and I was nearly trembling with excitement when i first saw it and climbed in for the first time. All I can say is its a wonderful car and I am happy with it. On the 500km journey home it was fantastic, especially fuel consumption wise.. I did the whole journey on a single tank of gas. All in all I am happy.. of course I also have the ERR03 on the CD player but hey LOC prepared me for it. One point of concern I need to solve quickly.. i ned to register the car we cant find where the engine number is located... Can anyone help with the location of the AS200 engine number... i would really aprreciate. will send pics soon

Phew!! after waiting an agonising eternity (with few nightmares on some nights) :) I got the call from the shipping company that my car has arrived. will pick it up in a couple of days, and since the port is 538km from where i am I will find out, as Jeremy Clarkson like saying," whats what" when I am am blasting along the 500km freeway on my way back .. will keep you guys posted. Just hope my TV in the car hasnt been stolen or something .

  18. The company in Japan i bought my AS200 from periodically send me updates on new stock. They sent me this and wow if i had the cash I would buy it now!!!. What do you guys think? http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l85/nhlanhla/tezz-1.jpg http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l85/nhlanhla/tezz3.jpg
  19. Just browsing as usual on my favorite japanese sites and i caught myself drooling over this... http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l85/nhlanhla/altez.jpg http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l85/nhlanhla/altezz.jpg http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l85/nhlanhla/altezza.jpg
  20. I am looking for a set of Altezza mud flaps.....any pointers?
  21. The are a common sight in neighbouring South Africa..esp the IS300
  22. its so easy to import a car here... Our neighbour South Africa doesnt allow its citizens to import because all the car manufacturers are based there and we have been a lucrative market for their high priced cars for ages. The IS200/IS300 is not very common mainly because of pricing...Im thinking of importing a drag race car mabye a skyline..The Tezza is for cruising and picking up ladies.. In short this is how it works. I log into the internet.. go to the usual webistes (I now have a couple I have short listed wo give me good service) I choose the car, they email me the invoice and reserve the car for me..I apply for import permit from my government (takes about three days) the I go to the bank and with invoice and permit and do a TT to Japan. They ship the car.. I collect it at the port.. pay tax to my government and register the car..thats when it goes to testing but it takes a few hours and the car is registered. Price in your currency mine is about GBP4300.00 thats everything, cost, shipping, taxes, registration
  23. Thanks.. love the interior half leather..Yes, I ordered it straight from Japan.. and gets shipped and I collect it Durban.
