  1. Oh, yeah, the IS300 is only auto, and I don't want an auto gear box.... so I guess the engine swap is almost out of option... 210 in total is a good number, so I guess its the best option, after all :) Will the engine/gearbox/transmission of the IS200 take care of that 50 horse power with out problems?
  2. It will not pass the MOT because you are changing the specifications of the car... With a engine swap, if the bigger engine looks the same as the smaller one, there will be no problem, since they wouldn't know its a different engine, and, I would not declare the modification, possibly in Portugal it would be impossible... Just that you know, in Portugal, if you want to put a tires that are not in the specifications of the car, you have to ask to the brand of the car to pass a declaration that the car can ride with that tire size, then go to the automotive legal department, and pay allot of money to turn that new measure legal to your car ... If fitting a supercharger to a IS200 is that easy, thats a very good option :) In round numbers, what kind of power gains are we talking when adding a supercharger to a IS200? And for how much, can these be found?
  3. Well, the problem with superchargers or turbos, is that the car will not pass a MOT with it installed... So I would have to remove it to pass the annual MOT, which would be a pretty bad :duh:
  4. Humm, I see its not as easy as I would expect to be. I will look for that topic for some hints. The series 3 BMW are also great cars, but in my really love the looks of the IS200/300 :) Maybe its more reasonable to import one, although at the moment I am only studying and thinking about it :) Thanks for the quick replies and clarifications :)
  5. Yes, import is an option, the problem is that Portugal taxes are way too high on importing used cars. You can easily pay about 5000€ of taxes for importing a car to Portugal. In this case it will have higher costs, as it has a 3000cc and the taxes are calculated having in mind the engine displacement and CO emissions. Besides that, I would have to pay about 500€ of taxes annually for a IS300 instead of 150€ for a Portuguese used IS200, as it would be considered a new car, and as such it would pay according to the new legislation, which is much worse in terms of the annual tax...
  6. Hi guys! Its been a long time I haven't been here. I was a regular user on the forum when I was looking to buy a used IS200, but it turned out I wasn't able to buy one, since the ones there were available in Portugal had too many miles or were way too expensive, so I went to the competition and I bought a year 2000, 1.8, Honda Accord. Still, I have not yet forgotten the IS200, I guess its one of my favourite cars :) I am thinking on the future to buy one, but there is a problem, I want bit more power than the IS200 provides. I guess that a IS300 would be ok. Here is the real problem, they are even more rare then the IS200 in Portugal... so, my thought was to buy a IS200 then swap its engine with one from a IS300. This poses a few questions, such as: - How difficult will this be? - What do I have to swap? Just the engine and ECM? How about the gearbox, differential, brakes, drive-shafts, suspension and so on? - Will be there a significant visual difference under the bonnet? Are there big visual differences between those engines? - How much would it cost the parts to perform this swap? I could always fit a turbo to it, but I would have lots of legal problems, as it would be impossible to pass a MOT with it fitted on the car, or even if the cops ordered me to stop the car in a regular traffic stop, if they went and look under the bonnet and see a turbo under there, I would probably have lots of problems... This is still a long-shot, but I am thinking about all possible alternatives to when I buy my next car.
  7. Hi! I have read that LSD's need to change the oil much more often than standard diferential. Do you know what is the interval to change the LSD oil in Lexus IS200/IS300?
  8. So, it makes the car more sporty, but does it makes the less safer under normal driving?
  9. So, does the LSD has any advantage over the standard differential?
  10. Hi! I have read some comment's about some IS200 whith LSD kicking out their back in some strange situations: http://www.carsurvey.org/viewcomments_review_9064.html http://www.carsurvey.org/viewmorecomments_review_9064_1.html As far as I know, only the IS 200 Sport has the LSD. Does the Limited Slip Diferential makes the car less safe to drive than the standard IS200? Anyone with a Sport version had a "weird kick out" of the back with aparent no reason?
  11. Hi! Any pics of the left side of the car so we can see how the refill cap will look on the car?
  12. This one has good pics, but the one I'm looking for was't a sportcross. Thanx any way.
  13. Those don't have pictures, the one I saw had lots of it.
  14. Hi! A while ago, someone posted some pics of it's white IS200. I have been searching arround and I can't seem to find the post. Can you post here pics of white Lexus? They are beutiful :) Does anyone knows where is that post? Thank you all?
  15. Dont just buy the car after you've walked round and kicked the tyres Hardcore was joking it's a running joke that blokes always kick the tyre to make the final decision, he wasnt serious :D Hi all! I got the picture! I'am trying to contact the seller so I can see and test the car. When I have more news I will tell you somethinh. Thank you all :D
  16. Hi! You mean that the general look of the car and tires is enough to know if the car is ok?
  17. Hi! I'am getting more confident on buying it with your replies :D Assuming the car has been always serviced, what kind of service should the IS200 have with this miles?
  18. Hi all! I am from Portugal and I am thinking on buying a used 1999 Lexus IS200 with about 120000/130000 KM (70000/80000 miles). Can you tell meif its to many miles to a car like this? What is the average global condition of a car whith this mileage? Is it usual to expect problems in a car whith these miles? I do know that every car has its own history, but I realy would like to know if a car like this is usualy in good shape or not and if its safe to buy the car if it looks ok. Sorry for the bad english :P Thank you all!
  19. Hi! I am thinking on buying a Lexus IS200 and I read in some places that this car its a bit under powerd that is a bit slow. Is this true? Is there realy a lack of power in this car or it's just "it could have more power"? Let's compare it to a 2005 Honda Civic 1600cc Sport. It's not a realy fast and power car, but it's already quite fast. Comparing a IS200 to this car, which one is the faster and in what conditions? The Lexus has 150HP and the Civic has 110(more or less), but on the other and the Lexus is a bit heavier... Comparing this two cars, which of them is faster/slower? Sorry for the bad english...
  20. Hi! Do you have any pictures of the car with the roof rack and roof box?
  21. Hi! I dont like that kind of cars("mini vans"/estate/touing)... I prefer the sedan/saloon version
  22. That bulkhead realy looks that's part of the struture of the car, may be to increase the strength of the chassis. It may not be recomendable to remove it, unless its just temporary...
  23. Hi! Now I see why the back seat are not reclinable. I think that's not this that will move me from buy a IS200 :) Thank you all.
