  1. My rear washer on the RX isn't working, I had Lexus check it whilst in for a service and they said the fuse was ok so it could be a wiring fault (front bumper off) or it's the motor and pump assembly (part no. 85330-60180).

I'm willing to take a chance on replacing the asssembly... the genuine Lexus part quote is £143.91 plus fitting which is obviously not cheap. It would be nice to get it fixed at a resonable cost and I'm thinking I might have a go at replacing the assembly myself as I understand it can be accessed via the right hand wheel arch.

My queries are: The same Toyota part is cheaper or cheaper again if I go for an aftermarket part, thoughts on genuine v aftermarket?

Secondly, has anyone done the same job on their RX who can offer any advice/pictures/video's?

I've had search here and on the internet but with limited success, hence my queries.

  2. I have used Lexus Bristol for years and since Marshalls took over this has been a real annoyance at times, I was told calls get transferred to the main call centre when the dealership is busy...............er, perhaps more staff required?

I hope the Steven Eagell Group taking over from Marshalls are better and they return to a more personal approach, one of the things that made Lexus stand out for me.

  3. Hi and welcome to the forum Russell and sorry to hear of your woes.

Other than trying to source the required part second hand which you have obviously tried, I'm out of suggestions.

Hopefully someone here with more knowledge will be along shortly to help out.

Out of interest, how did you jump start the RX, did you following the handbook instructions?

Keep us updated regarding progress, wishing you all the very best in getting this issue sorted out.

I've probably missed the boat now, but I do like the Sportcross. A shame Lexus didn't persevere with it, or any sort of estate version of the other saloons.

Loved my Sportscross (see pic) the downsides of owning one now are ever increasing Road Tax, MPG and finding a good one that hasn't been messed with.

Great pictures, love all the old Jap stuff, thanks.

  5. I had my RX450h in Lexus Bristol recently for a major service and opted for a courtesy car which was £12 for the insurance, so it seems this price varies across dealerships.

The courtesy car was an ES300h which looked smaller than my 2005 GS430, I was quite surprised to find it's longer than both the GS and RX as it didn't fit in my garage (it would if I removed the rear shelving)!

Persist with it Barney, mine has the extension that clips to the rear seats and still doesn't rattle, so I'm not sure it's that.

First step would be to remove the cover to see if the rattle's still there, so you can narrow it down to that.

Sorry for late reply Bill, have been away.

Good first step at least I can include/exclude if it's actually the cover/blind.

Don't worry, it will drive me nuts so persistence is a given:thumbsup:

I don't recall the blind rattling in the four years I've had mine, but I did have a squeaking noise which appeared to come from the tailgate area. I put felt strips on the little plastic flap surrounding the tailgate latch and I think somewhere each side of the tailgate where there appeared to be plastc-to-plastic contact.

If the centre rear seat isn't fully clicked into its neighbour then that can make a terrible racket.

Soulds like I'm in agreement with Bill.

For a company that made a lot of really good estate cars I find the rear seat/loadbay cover to be not so good. I wonder if something is missing on mine as there's a gap between the seats and cover (even my son's 2004 Yaris has something to hide that if the rear seats are slid forwards), and the back of the blind itself would be better attached to the tailgate. As a whole it doesn't seem as substantial as it could do, and any rattles are exaggerated by the ride.

On the positive side, as I found when we moved house the RX can take a lot of weight! I ferried lots of cars brochures, books and magazines back and forth and it took them quite happily. The firm suspension doesn't drop too much and there's plenty of power on hand.

Thanks Nigel, a few more things to add to my check list:thumbsup:

Agreed, it's not the best load bay cover, my Subaru Forester one is slightly better and more robust. With regard to your comment about "something is missing on mine as there's a gap between the seats and cover". Mine has an extension that clips onto the back seats from the main blind housing which moves and covers said gap between blind housing and rear seats when moved back and forth.

Good to know they are good load luggers, suspension looks beefy so I'm not surprised.

My GS300 was part ex'd for my current car 18/12 ago (2005 GS300) only got few hundred from dealer to avoid dealing with anyone else. within a few weeks appeared on autotrader for approx 10 times the amount i got for it. this i think might have been in birmingham but sold in Stoke. At the time i asked them what they did with the part exs and they said they went straight into the auction market. so someone bought it to make a quick profit

Much the same as the dealer told me upon asking so I guess the same thing could have happened with mine, at the price they are asking it would be a big, quick profit! Will keep an interested eye on the advert regardless😉

I wouldn't worry about it Barney, if you were happy with the price at the time, then that's all that matters.

If it's any consolation, I sold my last car to a dealer, also complete  with full service records, and he immediately advertised it for more than twice as much. To be honest, I didn't mind, as I got what I wanted without the hassle of a private sale. If anything I felt a bit sorry for him, as it was still for sale a year later.

Thanks Bill, as you said I accepted the offer and the deal has been done so time to move on. Your story highlights the swings and roundabouts of the car game, and like you, I didn't have the hassle of selling privately.

Not nice when you see the mark up. The simple answer of course is to stick with the private sale route which comes with its ‘interesting’ challenges!

Whilst you expect a dealer to make a profit it smarts knowing what price they I recieved me, it's makes you feel short changed. In fairness the dealer could have sold it on to friends or family who are just trying it on.

The reason I went down the part exhange route was I hate dealing with private buyers, I've had some good ones in the past but too many idiots and at my age, and given I have car another to sell, I just couldn't face it.

Also, whilst the GS was spot on, within the next two years a cam-belt change was due and in reality, possibly a new water pump given it's age and whilst the tyres had 6mm of tread they were eight years old. I needed to buy a more upright car due to health issues so it was time change and made sense to put my money into a newer Lexus.

    Indeed.

    Private or dealer?

The 'ad' does look somewhat 'misleading'?

I part exchanged it with a dealer, so yes the ad is misleading and a little untrue in places to be fair. I think what annoys me most is I had lovingly looked after it, kept a comprehensive folder of service history, bills etc. and they are passing all my love, care and money off as their own.

    Still, that's life I guess🙄

Could also be something loose in the wheel well area.

I'm pretty certain it's coming from the blind but will check for anything loose in the boot:thumbsup:

I think they're a reasonably snug fit when seated properly Barney. I remember removing mine initially, because of rattles, but then had to replace it to cover something and it hasn't rattled since, even over speed bumps.

Hopefully that's the case with mine Bill but will go through all suggestions regardless.

Making sure it's seated properly woud be a good start. Also worth checking that the rear seats are secured fully as they can sometimes rattle too. If all else fails then strategically placed self adehesive pads should do the job

Thanks Bill, things on my list to look at:thumbsup:

I recall a number of years ago on another car the blind wasn't a snug fit and went down the self adehesive pad route, have ordered some just in case.

I thought the cover in my RX was rattling, turned out to be the number plate!

    😁 I will check it!

Also noted it's marked as a private seller. Is it, or are they being a little naughty?

That's what I thought, it was only px'd a fortnight ago so as you say "a little naughty",  I'm sure it was more than two owners as well!

12 months but registered January 2006 so just squeezes in to the pre-March cheaper bracket. That said all bands have gone up in the last week.

Correct, it just missed the higher bracket.
