  1. Hi Jon, Thought it might be something to do with the auto box/electric motor combo. The car was otherwise superb-couldn't believe it was almost completely silent when moving-off at low revs.My wife loved it but as I've just bought her a new Civic the budget won't stretch to a 400h when I trade-in next year. It's definitely a huge improvement on the MK1 in every area.My only other problem with Lexus is the electrically-assisted power steering. In all other prestige cars I've driven I think hydraulic-assist gives more feeling through the wheel. The Lexus steering's not bad but on my Mk1 IS200 it felt a bit numb compared to my old BM 3series, the MK1 Rx was built for the U.S market so I dont think they gave much thought to steering-feel. Cheers Kevin p.s Sorry about the quote repost-still getting the hang of this !!
  2. Hi jaroph, Thanks for the reply.Lexus G.B simply weren't interested & gave no explanation.I'm disappointed cause I thought their customer care was supposed to be better-maybe since their global market is expanding their standards are starting to fall ? I suppose the car has been otherwise trouble-free but as I'm sure you know Lexus are not cheap to run, service & maintain, but they are supposed to be a top Marque so you expect higher costs when you buy.As a prestige Marque you also expect good reliability so I thought I had reason to complain . Reading previous posts in the forum about the lurching gearbox problems I'm concerned about trading-up to a MK2. Have Lexus sorted the problem?
  3. I'm sorry if this topic has already been discussed but I was given a new Rx 400 Hybrid as a courtesy car for the day and noticed a definite delay when trying to accelerate quickly out from a junction. It wasn't a problem when on the move & needing to overtake etc. Is this because of the Engine Management System trying to get the traction down without wheelspin?. I haven't driven the MK2 non-Hybrid but I would like to know if it suffers the same problem cos I might trade up shortly-I will of course be test driving the new one but I would really appreciate your comments.
  4. Hi Folks , This is my first post so I'm sorry its a tale of woe.I have been a happy Lexus owner for the past 6yrs but not now. I traded in my IS200 for a used RX300 three years ago(needed the space for new family).Managed to get a 2yr old Mark1 RX300SE with low mileage for a good price as the Mark 2 had just been released. It was a 2001 Y-plate, one previous owner with 22K on the clock & was in excellent condition. I've had the car regularly serviced by Lexus Aberdeen & I've looked after it well .I don't mind spending money to maintain the car (last service bill was over £500 for new front discs & pads plus £300 for new tyres a couple of months ago). The car has now done 47700miles and has been a lovely car own/drive ,especially on long journeys.I put it in for its M.O.T last month which it passed but I was told the cooling pipes were badly corroded & were starting to leak.I immediately got it looked at by Lexus Aberdeen who ordered the new pipes etc & said the cost of the repair would be about £200.I booked the car in a couple of weeks later & Lexus Aberdeen kindly picked up my car & gave me a beautful new Rx Hybrid courtesy car(70 mile round trip).I have to say the service I've had from Lexus Aberdeen has been excellent & Derek the customer service manager is really good to deal with.I got a call from Derek the next day saying he had bad news- the whole of the cooling unit/assembly was also corroded beyond repair and needed replaced. He offered to fit it for free but the cost of this extra part alone was £270(not inc.vat).This brought the total repair bill to £540 .Derek said it was an unusual fault for a well maintained car with relatively low mileage so he asked Lexus Customer Services if they would bear part of the cost as a goodwill gesture - the reply was an emphatic NO. I phoned Lexus myself expressing my displeasure but was told there was nothing they could do as the car was over 5yrs old (by 2 months)& I did not take out an extended warranty. I would like to know if any one else in the L.O.C has had similar problems with corrosion.I was hoping to trade up to a newer RX next year but I now have severe doubts about their reliability(considering an X5 instead )
