  1. B)--> QUOTE(T7RY B @ Jul 15 2007, 12:14 PM) ← Just annoy the frogs. They have been annoying us for years.I have NEVER seen a Foriegn car over here in the UK with deflectors fitted. Yeah. I just might do that. The reason the frogs and the rest don't fit deflectors is that left hand drive cars have headlights that dip straight ahead rather than to their nearside. Ours which dip to our nearside dip into oncoming traffic when abroad.
  2. My Lexus dealership have just kindly provided me with Lucas headlamp deflectors for my Mk 1 RX300. They need to be cut to match the shape of the lens/prism on the headlight. Now the covers on my RX are clear, there are no prism shapes to follow. On previous cars I have always used insulating tape as the shape has been easy to work out. The minor problem with this is that the adhesive on the tape becomes baked on and I've had to use thinners on the glass to remove it. I have seen a number of Lexus models with a crazing or cloudy section on the headlights, looks to me that something like a deflector has been fitted then removed. Is there something that is safe to clean them with? How do I avoid annoying the Frogs and look after my headlights at the same time? Many thanks for any info.

  4. "22 -24 round town, 26 - 28 on a run. The advice I got from an RX owner with some experience of towing with one was to let the vehicle get up to speed gradually, ie gentle acceleration, this seems to work. Will post again after I have towed my van from Barry to Dover then Calais through France, over the Pyrenees into Spain and back. Will consider writing a guide on petrol stations along the way as i'll probably visit most of them!
  5. Further to previous posts I have had a towbar fitted to my 2001 RX 300. Price quoted by Lexus Worcester, where I bought the car, was £750, Lexus Cardiff closer to £800. Went for the Worcester option where mention of LOC got a 10% reduction. The job was done for £675 for a detachable with the electric sockets swinging up out of sight when not in use. I asked where the fuse was for the reversing sensors so that I could disable them when towing, Dale in service told me that as it would be more convenient for me to use a switch they had fitted one in the system at no extra charge. After 7 months of ownership I am still very pleased with the RX and delighted with the sales and aftercare at Lexus Worcester. BTW got 17 - 18 mpg with a caravan with a gross weight of 1330 kg, 26 cwt, car towed like a dream.
  6. the handbook for my 2001 RX 300SE gives the recommended tyre pressures as follows: 1. 225/60R17 99H : 30 psi front and back 2. 215/70R16 100T: 33 psi front and back In both cases the manual states: "When towing .............add 2.8psi to the recommend tire pressures and drive at less than 100 kph (62 mph)" Sorry for the delay in posting this reply but as I still haven't fitted a towbar I hadn't actually looked in the handbook
  7. How about a pinned thread for owners who use, or propose to use, their cars for towing boats, caravans etc.? Members could share experiences on cost and suitability of Lexus models and also ideas on getting towing equipment fitted.
  8. Hi, How did the towing go? I have an RX300 which will be used to tow a caravan shortly, what sort of mpg did you get? Thanks in advance.
  9. Took delivery of my 51 plate RX a month ago, done 60K. Love the car and Lexus Worcester are replacing the struts under warranty. will let you know how I get on. Excellent experience at this dealership so far.
  10. I have a Mk 1 and I bought a towbar for it from Towsure. An excellent product which only took about 15 mins to bolt on. Even the electrics were simple taking about an hour to do. The only problem for you would be that it is not detachable. The best thing was that the whole thing (brand new) only cost about £140 SJT Hi, I had a Brink detachable fitted 3 yrs ago, a nice neat job, cost me £460 so your quote seems about right, the sockets sit under the bumper on a bracket and are visible, i dont think it is possible for them to be out of sight but i would'nt call them obtrusive. My van weighs 1400kg and the car pulls it effortlessly,as for mpg the camp site we like to use is nearly all motorway so i get about 25 mpg Hope that helps Thanks to both for the info will post an update when the job is done, will go for the Brink.
  11. Hi, Can't offer any advice I'm afraid but you may be able to help me. What make of towbar do you have on your Mk 1? Just bought a 2001 Mk 1 RX 300. Done 60K. I intend to tow with it. I have been quoted approx £500 to supply and fit a Brink detachable towbar with electrics, the suppliers (Indespension) tell me that Brink is the only company making towbars for the Mk 1 and that there is only one model available and that the electric socket and socket for the towball will be visible. Lexus want £750 for a detachable towbar along the same lines, I'm sure that is the same brink model. I would like one that is unobtrusive as possible, with nothing visible when the towball is detached, can you shed any light? What sort of performance and mpg can I expext? Please break it to me gently. many thanks
