  1. lightbulb - alarm - audio = sorted (the fuse had blown) i'm surprised that my MOT guy passed it - cracked spring doesn't sound healthy at all - any ideas as to why it would've cracked?
  2. i have a mk4 ls400 with dhp had MOT done recently - passed but engineer said that o/s rear spring is broken, i.e. a crack 1 inch into the coil firstly should it have passed the MOT - secondly WHY has the spring cracked - thirdly should i replace the spring (lexus have advised i have to buy ALL 4 as they dont sell in pairs) as the car seems ok when driving! also how big of a job is to replace the front radius arms, bump stops and n/s front wheel bearing? (LEXUS diagnosed these problems about 4-6 weeks ago as well as the cracked spring) other bits - lightbulb blown above P in dashboard - replaced BUT still the same key not working (flashes red), i.e. alarm - have to manually lock/unlock the car myself finally - the audio system NOT working, i.e. NONE of the buttons or CD or tape player - everything else ok (sat nav, climate, etc...) mileage is 56k for a 98 - should i really be having these problems? any help/feedback would be really appreciated regards
  3. hi can someone please give me an idea as to how much i should be paying for labour to have the following carried out: - replacing rear springs - replacing front radius arms (still dont know what on earth these are) - replacing n/s/f wheel bearing - replacing front suspension bump stops - replacing the bonnet struts all the above parts will be ordered from the dealer except the wheel bearing which will come from nip-parts.com dont even ask how much lexus quoted - the figure itself is probably 1/3 of what the car is worth!!! i've had one garage quote £250 + VAT but i dont know if this is too much or too little kindly please advise regards
  4. hi i posted on this site over a week ago but i'm finding it difficult to source the parts that i require - please advise i had a vehicle diagnostic carried out by lexus and the following issues arose: - rear coil spring broken i am not going to buy eibach or h&r as i only deal with original parts and do not want the ride to suffer - lexus have advised that i get a pair at £99.24 each - when i told them that my mk4 had the DHP and that the vehicle only required the DHP springs they seemed confused to my amazement - i wasn't happy - am i going to have to pay £200 for a set of rear springs from the dealer or is there an alternative - i have checked ebay uk/usa as well as breakers/salvage BUT nothing!!! also how sure am i that i will get the DHP springs - if they order them and then i fit them and then find out that they were NORMAL mk4 springs; to say i will be gutted is an understatement! - front radius arms lexus have quoted £64.39 each for the front right and front left radius arms - once again upon the advice of the forum i checked with many motor factors/breakers/salvage including ebay uk/usa - NO ONE HAS ANY IDEA what on earth a radius arm is - i went back to lexus - even they were mumbling saying that it was some sort of a strut - is it the upper control arm - the lower control arm - is it the wishbone - even so if they are these parts then the prices are extortionate - no way near what lexus is quoting - can someone please tell me what a radius arm is and why lexus for some bizarre reason is the cheaper one out there? - near side front wheel bearing with seal and nut lexus quoted £96.01 for the bearing - £2.61 for the seal and £2.61 for the nut - i checked with nip-parts who will provide the bearing and the seal but NO nut at a cost of just under £50 - has anyone dealt with this company and if so how reliable are they? nip-parts advised that i use the same NUT - is this true? - front suspension bump stops x 2 lexus quoted £19.65 - once again all the motor factors said that this was a dealer part as well as the parts above - i was surprised at the wheel bearing as i thought that would be readily available i hope you guys/girls can shed some light on the above as i quite quickly need to get the suspension back in order for a 100% comfortable ride thanks projucer

  6. hi - i have a 1998 ls400 mk4 with the DHP - it is in black with the usual gold badges and grill - just done over 61k i had a major service carried out at 60k (NOT from lexus dealer but a local mechanic) at a cost of £540 including parts (timing belt replaced as well) however, i am experiencing firstly a very hard ride and secondly a rubbing/grinding noise from the front rather than waste my money by going to local mechanics who would have been guessing night and day, i paid the local lexus dealership £60 who carried out a 30 minute diagnostic they came back with a number of faults and their price for parts was £707 and labour £1722 + VAT = £2429 i know this amount is ridiculous so i need your help in firstly helping me to source these parts either within the UK or overseas and secondly to find a genuine bonafide specialist within the yorkshire area (preferably west yorkshire) the faults are as follows: - rear coil springs (pair) as o/s/r broken [i need the DHP springs] - front radius arms - front suspension bump stops - n/s/f wheel bearing - both bonnet struts also as you are aware the ls400's are 2-tone, i.e. for my vehicle the colour is black but the bumpers and sides are a dark grey - any idea where i could find the colour code for this dar-grey? i await your replies thanks
