why dont u go to a lexus dealer and measure the boot?
I have, but I'm none the wiser. Its 38" deep to the base of the seats, with them fully slid backards, 38" wide (between the arches) and 30" high at the aperture, but what I couldn't get a feel for was the rake of the rear screen with the boot lid closed, and I thought a forum member might have a bit more experience, OR be able to point me towards some diagrams which might help me.
I thought asking questions was the point of a car forum. I must have misunderstood. Sorry.
Oh, and I only had chance to look at one with a nasty beige interior. Does the trim in the darker versions look less plasticy?

I've got the RX400h on my shortlist of potential purchases at the moment, but have 2 big concerns versus the rivals:
1) the quality of the interior trim didn't seem up to much, definitely more "Nissan" than "Audi"...
2) I couldn't get an accurate idea of the available boot space
I need to carry a couple of dogs regularly, and don't want the interior covered with dog hair and the windows smeared with dog noseprints like my current car is.
The solution I've found is to buy one of these:
http://www.dogtrailers.co.uk/boxes.html
Which fully enclose the dogs, making sure they don't get the entire boot dirty. From a safety point of view, it would also be better not to have 2 20+kg dogs rolling around the cabin in the event of an accident, too!
Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any measured diagrams of the RX400h online anywhere... so does anyone know which of these boxes would fit, or know of any other solution? I've got a Hatchbag in my current estate and it does a poor job, to be honest. It velcros onto the side, and supposedly covers the interior panels, but in practise the velcro isn't strong enough, and the side panels still get hair on them...
Any comments on the interior trim?

Cheers...
Its not that I'm against Japanese cars. I've had 2 Audis in my last 3 cars, but the middle car was a 350z, and everyone who doesn't like that car whinges about how naff and plastic the interior is, but I thought it was fine...
Its just I was looking closely at the rear airvents, and the weird cubby in the front armrest with the pivoting doors, and wasn't fussed on the finish AT ALL. The rear DVD screen integration looked OK, but the front seats felt a bit small.
I've just been to look at a Touareg... I had seen photos and thought the interior of THAT looked quite bad, but up close it was much better than the RX400h. Maybe the dashboard plastic was of a similar "quality" but the all-round feel of the Touareg interior was much more plush. That's a shame, and not what I expected in the Lexus vs VW.
It seems Lexus have put all the money into the technology and drivetrain and have skimped elsewhere. :(
