  1. Hi,

I was in Halfords at the weekend trying to buy a few bits that would have cost well over £200. Got to the checkout and presented my Lexus Owners Club Halfords discount card and they just gave me a blank look. They tried all 5 staff in the store, they could work out 15%, but did not have a clue how to put it through their till. So I just left.

Can anyone tell me what I need to tell the children that run these stores, what to do?

    Thanks, Kenny

  2. Had HID's in my car for ages. Same 6000k as mentioned above. Went through it's MOT 2 weeks ago without any problem. The law states that they must have automatic leveling and headlight washers. So technically they should fail an MOT as we only have manual headlight leveling, but I've had HID's in cars for years and not one MOT station has failed my cars.

  3. Same with me Matt. My IS200 is my second car. (Got an Audi A6). I am trying to figure out my Battery problem. Got ERR3 so bought a nice Sony double din and the amp bypass cable. If I drive the car every day, its fine. Leave it for 3 days and the Battery is flat. I do notice that the clock stays illuminated all the time after the install. Disconnect the bypass cable when I'm not using the car and the Battery is fine???? Once I get this sorted out, I can confidently wire up the Sat-Nav

  4. Hi Rob and welcome to LOC. The questions you raise have been asked and answered many times on here. CD Player, double din is what you are after although a single din can fit. You buy an Auto Leads fascia adapter and possibly a amp bypass cable depending on which model of IS200 you have.

    Wind deflectors will fit

IS300 gets Xenons as standard and auto dimming rear view mirror plus some other bits.

Have a go with the search facility.

  5. Premium brand dealers have sales targets. They choose their words carefully which insinuates there is an issue requiring attention. They understand the demographic of their customers and that many dont really know a lot about cars. They prey on this and make money selling them parts they dont really need. A couple of easy examples. 1. They will tell you your brake pads and or discs are worn and stop there. They dont tell you how many mm is on a new item and what the current part is worn to. This way, the customer usually instructs them to attend to it. 2. Tyres - the service adviser told me that there was an issue with my front tyres that needed attention with a tone of real concern in his voice. When I called him he said that my front tyres only had 4.5mm left on them. Knowing that a new tyre has 7 - 8 mm I questioned why this was a problem. He told me that 4.5mm was "not very much". After many conversations with the service manager he never gave me any real answer why the adviser had suggested that my tyres at 4.5mm needed attention. Once I spoke with trading standards about the dealer trying to mis-sell items not required, all of a sudden the Dealership principal was on the phone offering sincere apology's. If I choose to use that dealer again, he said I was to call him directly to arrange any servicing etc.

  6. I have a 2000 'X' IS200 SE Auto. I read somewhere that the auto dimming rear view mirror from the GS300 would fit, just needing a + and - feed from the sunroof motor. I saw THIS on eBay and wondered if it would fit?

Has anyone done this mod and if so, do they have any tips or pics that could help please.

    Many thanks. Kenny

  7. Plenty to ready on the IS220 / IS250 section of the forum about remaps, but basically, don't do it. I had one of these and ended up never using 6th gear as it was so useless. Pop over to the other section and ready about cleaning out your egr valve.

  8. Just came back up from central London to Kilmarnock stopping off a couple of times to see family and friends. Car is a 2000 IS200 SE Auto with 73k and a fully stamped Lexus service history (12 stamps all from same Lexus dealer). Filled the car to the neck and reset the trip. Just filled the car today with the trip reading 493.5 miles. It took 61.2 litres today. Quick calculation works out at 36.7mpg. Probably 70% of the trip was on clear motorway at 75mpg constantly on cruise control. I'm really pleased with that especially considering its an auto. To me this shows the value of having the car properly and regularly serviced.
