  1. i have a 55 sel auto, and although it is a pleasure to drive, I have never had a car that rattles as badly as this one, so much so that it has ruined my ownership and I am constantly sticking pieces or foam and electrical tape into gaps and panels to try and stop it - to no avail.

as much as i love lexus, i doubt i shall be replacing it with another is250 this year - even the new one i had as a courtesy car a month ago, which had 6000 miles on it, rattled in all the same places mine does - albeit slightly quieter. I really would have thought that by now they had sorted the rattle problems out, but apparently not, so it will have to be one hell of an offer to get me into a new one :(

the CT200h would be great if it wasn't a hatchback and looked so wierd at the back. But even then, I would worry that the rattle problem would find me again...

  2. cheers dave1, is that before the gloss protection or instead of? i like the fact that the GP prevents stuff like tree sap and bird droppings from penetrating the paint and it lasts for months.

Autoglym suggest that after the SRP you use the EGP or the HD Wax, both give a good finish but the HD Wax is a better and longer lasting finish. I used to use both before I consulted Autoglym for advice.

cool. i will try the HD wax next time round and see how it goes :)

  3. Hi Everyone

has anyone else had a problem where the sat nav decides that you are hours away from where you actually are? i started the car the other day, and when the map came up it said i was in bristol - approximately 90 minutes drive from where i actually live. i thought maybe it just needed time to find the satelites again but it has not rectified at all, even when i drove to heathrow and back!

    Help!

    thanks

  4. hi

the system reads the actual temperature in the cabin and then blows either hot or cold till it matches the temp you selected. it's not like normal systems with a dial that you manually turn which physically closes or opens flaps in the pipes. to be honest, i never turn auto off on mine, and it stays on 22 permanently throughout the year and generally never needs changing.

have you tried leaving it on auto and seeing if that helps? when on auto, it usually blows the air out of the vents which need it most and controls the fan speed, thus avoiding blowing cool air in your face. this is my 4th car with climate control and they have all behaved in the same way.

    hope that helps :)

    regards

  5. i have run my 250 on tesco 99 for 2 years, and never had a problem. it runs perfectly, and i think i get better mileage and power too. when i have had to put other fuel in like BP or shell optimax, i haven't noticed any difference at all.

  6. Hi Everyone

looking for some ideas. My IS250 Auto went in for its annual service a few weeks ago, and they advised me that one of my rear tyres was down to 2mm tread depth, but the other one is at 4mm, as are the front. i had the full geometry checked last year with no problems, and the tread at last years check were the same on all 4 tyres.

so the question is, what would cause one tyre to suddenly lose twice the tread as its partner in 1 year? i don't drive heavily and don't pull wheel-spins or anything lol.

    any ideas people?

  7. i replied to the post that ended with the following:

'PS. the car looks like new (with the new Alloys) and no sign of a rattle. Thanks Lexus Belfast......I still LOVE my Lexus '

    thanks

LexusForever.......I don't mean to be nasty but what posting of mine have you read ......you say "glad to hear you got sorted".....what is Sorted?

    I'm confused

maybe you have read some other thread. I have nothing sorted. My Alloy Wheels are once again corroding. I have had two sets of new alloys replaced since new. This third set have started pitting/bubbling.

Thanks to Tango I contacted Lexus GB by phone and they have asked me to contact Lexus Belfast, which I have done.....but they haven't returned my call. So nothing is sorted. Also Lexus haven't admitted to this problem in their Alloys. So here I am out of Warranty and my Alloys are corroding!!!

The last time they replaced the Alloys I asked Lexus Belfast "What would happen if the Alloys started corroding outside the Warranty Period" and they said "I'm sure Lexus will sort it out at no expense to you"........we will wait and see

PS I forgot to tell you that I had previously contacted Lexus GB via their Web Site four times about this problem and I never ever got a reply

  8. hi

i find that if my rear blind is up the interior mirror doesnt dim and therefore the side mirrors too. i am sure they are all linked to the one sensor on the internal mirror. so if you have tinting on your rear window the internal will never dim and therefore neither will the door mirrors. i find mine work great and dim dark enough that lights never bother me anymore.

also, the se-l does have the dipping mirrors in reverse but you have to make sure the mirror switch is set to left or right rather than central otherwise it wont do it.

    hope this helps

  9. hi

glad to hear you got sorted. i agree that lexus service is 2nd to none. with regards to alloy wheel wax, i use turtle wax nano wheel wax (green bottle) and find it works extremely well at keeping brake dust to a minimum and protecting the wheels. it is also very easy to apply and is stocked by Halfords.

i bought my 250 second hand and the dealer had the wheels refurbed before i took delivery, but i ended up having them done again by my local guy who did a much better job. i am sure if you keep the wheels well cleaned and do it at least once a week you will be fine. i used to have a company car, the same as several colleagues but i cleaned my car thoroughly at least once a week which they never did and never had wheel problems whereas the others did (golfs and passats and A4s)

with regards to consumption, if you only do town driving then 28 is about right. i do a mixture of town and motorway and get around 35mpg on average, but it drops to 27/28 around town only.

    hope that helps

  10. Hi

may sound like a stupid thing to say, but have you checked that no one has changed the sound settings all the way to the front? i say this cause i also thought mine had blown when i only had sound coming from the front speaker, and then found out that my young nephew had been playing in the car and managed to change the settings without my knowledge lol

at least you are under warranty so they will sort out anything that is wrong.

    good luck
