  1. Bore is 60.1 with an 114.3 pcd. Offset with these cars cannot be deviated from the recommended 38 to 45. I have found, on my car at least, that a 40 offset is better when the tyre size is 235 or above. Tyre size/offset can be a balancing act to avoid the dreaded tramlining. The offset window narrowing as the tyre size increases. At the moment I have no issues at all with a 40 offset and 235 tyres.

GS300 nav wheels on my old lady! Still not too sure though. I`m gonna put the tyres up to 50/55 profile soon to fill those arches. BTW, these are 8J wheels, the max width the Mk1 can take without messing around! Runs so nice with these using Federal SS595 tyres. These are probably the 5th set I`ve had on it now. There is something not right with all of those tried. I just hate most of the original LS400 wheels, and it looked nuts with the dished GS300 sport ones!! Hopefully this could turn out to be a good thread with people posting pics of their experiments, as long as the usual opinionated members dont spoil it!!! OOOPS! That must have annoyed one or two of them....here comes the flood....

  3. £72......for the old one to be refurbished? As much as I like original replacements, surley a modern replacement would be the better option. Mine failed in the same way around 1-year ago and an Infinity 8" unit (With impedance correction) was fitted....for under £50. Bass performance is so much better than the old one as the fs is much lower than the original paper coned one. Saying that, well done for keeping it original! ;)

  4. I have done many wheel bearings in my time and I would say that a press is the only way to go with a bearing of this size. I would avoid getting a hub from a breakers, you will probably be in the same position a few months down the road. Just take the hub assembly and bearing kit to a garage and ask if they would complete the job off the car. With the cost of these bearings, they are too expensive to mess up! (paid £65 each). I would suggest doing the both sides as around 1-month after doing the passenger side the drivers side failed! Good luck! Scott

  5. I was quoted £90 each for shocks from a local car parts place.....seems to be a average price for them. I fancy the KYB ones as they have a good following in the states and are "tuned" for worn/older suspension. Still trying to find a place in the UK that sells them at a realistic price! (£135 each so far). Second hand shockers seem to be around the £40 mark but dont really want to go down that route!!

  6. My LS400 is approaching it`s 20th birthday and have no intention of parting with it any time yet. Despite it`s age it never fails to impress me with it`s attitude on the road. Ultra reliable, I`d bet my life it would start against my other cars (one is an 08-plate). For years I thought I knew what a good car was until my introduction to a Lexus changed all that. As an example, at the last mot, it passed with no advisories.....19-years old and 170,000miles!!!! If this was any other forum, that would probably be a big LIE! Only now the build and quality is so apparent on these cars, they really did set out to make a superior car to anything around at the time and age is confirming that they did just that. I could write a page on the engine and drive train but it`s been said so many times before. 170K and the "coin balance act" can still be done!! Astounding!!

Cant say I love a Lexus as it`s unlike any car I`ve owned, I don't think it has a likeable personality, it`s a car I have much technical admiration for and marvel at Toyota`s accomplishments every time I turn the key.

  7. Paying £176 for full comp, 3000mile limit classic insurance. 1990 ls400, with me, a 36-year old behind the wheel. Bargain! (Never gone over the 3k mile limit mind) :winky:

Hiya mate, Who are you insured with?

    Thanks

With Performance Direct, it`s garaged and I think my post code helps as I am in the sticks!!

Never claimed, clean licence since 1989 (not caught yet!), drive a company car and member of advanced motorists.

    Happy insurance hunting! :D

  8. As gribley`s quote above....But if the car is in good order, low miles, good service history etc, dont leave it behind just because the a/c is not working.....probably an easy fix anyway. The compressor is the most expensive part on the system and if that is ok (engaging with a "click" when switched on) you are half way there.

    Where in Wales are you?

thanks for the tip i am in bridgend you know it?

Bridgend....Yeah know it well. I am a a/c engineer from Caerphilly if you need help with your prospective LS. My colleague is in Bridgend too.

  9. Hi,

Mine has "weeped" from the switch housing in the expansion tank for years now, but never lost as much as you describe. As Ruud said, doubt it`s the head gasket, but worth taking the oil filler cap off and having a look for a milky substance.

Best start from cold and run to temp with the bonnet open and just keep checking around. Keep looking around with the engine off too coz that is when my leak starts.

    All the best.

  10. My local garage owner said my 2007 ls460 was made by TOYOTA! the cheeky blighter! I was most upset.

Margaret (my better half) said he was only jealous because he is an uneducated oik! she's bonkers!

I will stay on and keep my opinions to myself for a while now...It was the painkillers talking, making me nuts.

Mopar.....the Lexus is a Toyota and tell Margaret that not all garage owners/workers are uneducated. How would she feel if most of her days were to start with a phonecall about a back box for a 92` Astra 1.6? By the way..LS460....Nice car!
