  1. Up to now I manage with the granny charger and my RZ450.  However I now think it's time to invest in a standard charger.  I am with Octopus and was wondering if there is any great need to get an Ohme as the charging schedule is controlled by the car..

Is anyone here on octopus using another charger from another supplier?

I was thinking of Hive or Pod as the chargers look quite neat.

myohmy .........   some £200 a day for the residual capital loss if you sold her today, let alone the capital and possible finance cost, pain of purchasing new some 5 months back

No health warning on buying new cars eh !    BUT that euphoric moment of driving off, that day in your brand new car 😃

AND now knowing insurance costs are going thru' the roof too for EVs generally

I'm quite certain, intuitively, that your tale is not uncommon amongst EV purchasers .....  from nouveau rich to nouveau poor in 5 months ........

Not sure what else to say other than to offer my commiserations on your loss

Car values are based on a combination of the physical product along with the quality of service from the marque itself.
I have owned Lexus for over 20 years and the service IMO is exceptional. I have attempted to stray to other German brands and have been very disappointed from the outset. It is for this reason I have remained with Lexus. It is a brand I know and trust. I would hate to spend £60k+ on a car and be met with poor service with little redress and be treated as a number. It is for this reason I remain with Lexus and their reliability.
The EV car market is over inflated at present and will take another 5 years plus to settle. However if RZ owners like myself are happy with their purchase then I struggle to agree that they have lost out.  I intend to remain with the brand, who knows what comes next. I have the same debate over apple products compared with other run of mill tech manufacturers. Quality and service cost, but are worth paying for.

That's my conclusion that the fan is the significant draw.  Turn the fan off and I only  get around a 30-35  mile increase  but it doesn't change with ac on or off. One thing I discovered this morning, I turned the fan off to use the radiant heaters which is more efficient that using the fan/heater. The only problem is on cooler/wet mornings like today the windows steam up badly which means you have to put the fan on which seems to defeat the point of these heaters to save power. @ruds @wivenhoe, do you get that problem?

Not had the need to de mist yet - we have been blessed with a sunny October in the main.  Appears then that the need for fan will still be required in the winter months - I'll report back on this when I can.

Well, as the originator of this thread, it is time for me to bow out.

I was sorely disappointed with the range forecasts coming from the US so did not hold out a lot of hope for the test drive, and indeed there was nothing to tempt me to buy the RZ following that drive.

There is not much enthusiasm on this forum for the RZ and I cannot see it being available in its current form for too long.

Pretty soon after the RZ drive I tried the ID5, Ariya, Mustang Mach E and Genesis GV60.

My GV60 arrived today. I believe that I have made a good choice, although I too have no rear wiper. The only issue is that my Evoque's value has nosedived in the last two months, so much so that I got £9000 less than the promised trade in from Lexus for August. This car buying lark is perilous.

All the best to owners and fans of the Lexus RZ.

The GV60 was in my sights whilst I was waiting for the RZ - I had a couple of test drives and was pleased with it.  However I was a little underwhelmed with build quality compared to my RX which I had at the time, I felt the GV60 felt a bit 'light'.

Despite this being a Lexus forum it would be good to get your feedback.

Bob. Fully charged with the fan on but the ac off, my car shows a range of 196 miles.  But if I turn the ac on, it still shows 196 miles which is why I tend to keep it on all the while. If I turn the fan off, the range goes up to 223 miles. It has consistently shown this range from day one.  Obviously your car is performing different to mine particularly as your car has the ac come on with the fan whereas my doesn't' unless I turn it on. It's a mystery and it will be interesting to see how  @ruds car performs compared to ours.

Last time I looked I had 'full charge' at 195 with fan on, not done the scientific test with a/c.. Not had the chance to test this properly yet esp with my issues over the w/e.  I'll charge it up overnight/tomorrow and feedback.

ruds - I think there are only 2 others on here with a RZ. How long have you had yours and what’s your thoughts on it ?

@wivenhoe I have had mine just over a week.   Thoroughly pleased with it !!!  For once real life reflects advertising - the car is amazingly quiet, it is very smooth and so comfortable.  Build quality is typical Lexus. Despite ordering it before officially released, I continued to scour the market for comparisons, other options I had were Polestar2 or 3, and also the Fisker Ocean.  However I decided to stick with Lexus for known quality and customer service.   If I were to pick a fault - it would be the range.  However  knew that it wasn't chart topping so I had set my expectations.  I get about 2.9 out of it with a mix of motorway and urban.

Overall though very pleased as I said.  There are still very few on the roads, which is nice, I have only ever seen one other.

I must also update my profile !!

In that case sounds like a flat battery in the key fob.

The key fobs have a backup secondary battery for when the main key battery is low/dead which is where the "push the start button with the fob" thing comes from. Id change it and see if it begins to work again. I have had that once where the car opens up, can recognise the fob is in the vicinity of the car but then doesn't recognise it inside.

    Problem solved !!

a visit to Lexus Leicester this morning has solved the issue. It turns out the issue was caused by ‘Smart Entry’ being enabled. In my menu tinkering at the weekend I must have enabled this.  It switches off the RF transmission of the key fob - incidentally noticed as locking the car was only possible by a press of the fob and not by a door.  Malcom from @LexusLeicester used his menu system prowess and powers of deduction to work this out. Many thanks to all who contributed to the discuss and a huge 🙏🏾👍🏾 to Lexus Leicester. As always with tech - user error to blame 😂😂

Thanks, I'll give this a try.  The AA did disconnect the 12v battery for about 5 mins or so - in the expectation that this would 'reset', it made not difference.  He couldn't access drag port so could go no further.  I'll give this a try before contacting dealer and feedback.

Update ** just been out to try @wivenhoe and it worked by holding the key fob up against the power switch. Display comes to life and car powers up and drives.  If I power down and try again with key away from power button I.e. in pocket then it fails to power up. I’ll contact dealer, however thanks. Progress of sort.

ruds - my RZ had a flat battery and the electronic doors wouldn’t open, even with the manual key. AA sorted it using the manual key after a real struggle so that error is nothing to do with a flat battery, as you say. Then I had a “charging malfunction” message and I found the AA  much more helpful than the dealer - they came and disconnected the 12v battery to reset the system (Lexus doesn’t give them access via the computer port)  That sorted the error so I could drive and charge using DC only whilst it took 6 weeks to get the AC charging module changed.

I very much doubt this will work but give it a try - the manual has emergency starting of the EV - good luck

You can still get in the car. It used to happen consistently on the UX 300e where lexus link was on and every 2-3 days even if it was driven the car would unlock and open as normal but wouldnt start because the 12V Battery was flat.

Nevertheless, looks like its not the issue anyway as the Battery is fully charged in OPs case

Car unlocks and opens as normal. I have been using it quite intently last couple of days monitoring charge progress. Not entirely sure how the app could cause such a draw on the car. As stated likely not as the Battery is fully charged. I’ll contact dealer in the morning to see what they can do.

Congrats on the new car and I hope it all goes well. I think that's now 3 of us on here who have bought the RZ  so let us know how you get on.  Does your have the new software update. Apparently  new cars should be supplied with it but existing owners have to wait until December at the earliest

Oooh, software update. What is it for and how do I check which version?

  12.

    Hey everyone,

Last week I finally took delivery of my RZ 450e from Lexus Leicester 🙂. Excellent service from the dealership as always, with a seamless handover from my previous RX450h.

I am yet to get my EV charger fitted,  doing my research Smarthome charge.co.uk offers the Easee One Charger and also the OhmeHome Pro.  Is there any preference amongst the members over which is the more preferred to work with the RZ 450e?🤔

Point of note - I am an Octopus customer as energy supplier.

  13. I have a 1998 GS300 SE. I have just tried locking the door using the remote key fob and all doors lock except the drivers door. The indicators flash indicating alarm activation but the drivers door does not lock.

I have manually locked using a turn of the key this works. If I unlock using the fob all doors are unlocked except drivers. Problem with drivers door !!

Inside if I try to 'central lock' using the switch then this also fails.

    CAn anybody help ??
