  1. Hi this is only my personal experiance, but i would avoid the 220d...

i have had a load of problems when i once owned one, lexus make great cars but the diesel car is crap, here is just a few of the problems i had to deal with..

    1.new turbo

2.new egr valve (replaced 5 times)

    3.new cat converter

    4.new 5th injecter

    5.new common rail

    6.new gear linkage

    7.new steering rack

    8.new brakes (done 4 times)

I won't go on anymore as some people do have good lexus diesels on here, but the one i had was utter ******* and would never buy a lexus diesel again

the only thing i can reccomend is to get one which has a full dealer service history and is covered by a good comprehensive warranty ( because you will need it at some point) DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GET RID OF THE DIESEL VERSION AS QUICK AS POSSIBLE,THESE CARS ARE A ABSOLOUTE NIGHTMARE THE PETROL VERSIONS ARE FAR BETTER AND GIVE JUST AS GOOD FUEL ECONOMY

  3. No do not live with it, my wife has a 2006 is 220d se and we have had numerous problems with the car. And have had 3 new egr valves, 3 ecu upgrades,3 new cat convertors, new injectors, and last of all a new TURBO, the car does run better now with not much lag at all, also is the car a is220d,or is 220d se, as the gearing is slightly diferent on the base model,my wife's car is now being reviewed by the financial ombudsman as lexus will not admit that they have serious problems with this car!!!!!

  4. Hi I've just bought an 06 reg IS220 with 30k on the clock about 2 and a half months ago and brought it in to lexus for a service and requested them to check out the engine down power recall, intermediate service, power steering recall and rear brake caliper recall. They've reflashed the ECU, apparently cleaned the EGR (initially told me they were changing it because the private dealer who sold the car agreed to pay for it, but when I got the car back lexus told me they've only cleaned it), changed the air filter, did the oil service and the steering / brakes recall job, but when I got back my car it is just sluggish - with very bad turbo lag. The engine just wouldn't respond for 1 second or so, especially if the accelerator is floored and seemed to have a 'pull back' effect when 2nd is engaged even at 15mph or less (also other gears). This is especially evident when the engine is cold. Before sending the car in, the car drives smoothly without any 'pull back' effect after gear changes / when accelerating. It was also much more powerful with a less noisy engine.

I've brought it back for about 3 times for them to check it - Add coolant (not done even I've requested that before the service), steering pulling & downpower issue and they said it was because of the different tyre thread, and the power is because of turbo lag (saying that it's the same as their 09 reg new model). I've changed the tyre and brought it back again and they finally sorted the alignment and the car goes straight now (they just blamed the pot holes, whereas I think they've not done the tracking after changing the steering rack!)

I have booked in to ask them to check the power loss again end of this month - this time stating that it happens when it's cold. He said he will charge 1 hour labour & any addition if it's not a recurring problem, or they don't find any problem, so I am not sure whether to live with it or to bring it in to them again. Please advice.

    Many thanks

  5. Answering your replies: tha car was scrapped but then shipped over to Ireland?! However the car is as far as Lexus are conerned in their database for recalls etc. I am big Lexus fan and have had a Lexus for over 10 years but I find it a bit strange that the Lexus brand has bnot been included within the recalls. There are a lot of common parts. The problem seems more computer based than accelerator being foulded by mats or pedals sticking on brand new cars. I wrote to Lexus GB 2 weeks ago and they stated that no Lexus was affected by the recall.

But this is simply not true. I have checked the Toyota web site and Lexus is not listed as being affected.

Has anybody else had a recall letter?

hi my wife has a 06 is220d which has been back to lexus about 10 times for the brakes making a clicking noise, can you tell what the fault was which caused the brakes to fail

  6. well guys after having my is 250 nicked a couple of months back,i have now been paid out :shifty: and decided to buy an isf :D ,and all i can say is wow, wow, happy days...

Just don't park it in Liverpool 8? (He said, having lived there years back. In fact, park a big dog on the back seat?) :crybaby::whistling:

    No, just enjoy it!!!

lol,the car is now kept in my newly built garage :shifty:

  7. sorry to hear the bad news

    keep us updated

guys just had police on phone they have found some of the car in a breakers yard in london, works out they have been watching it for weeks.looks like the car was robbed to order for parts, obviously a write-off now as they have only found certain parts ie engine door glass and other parts. :tsktsk: thanks for the replies guys when i find out some more info i will let you know, cheers andy

  8. That's pretty scary if they did drive it away without the keys. Although as Aido says, it's quite likely they towed it away, but that would have set the alarm off, was the car locked and alarmed?

Sorry to hear that mate, hope you get it back in one piece.

the only thing i can think of is that the car keys where on the window ledge, about 1 ft away from the front of the car, maybe the t**t tried the doors and it let him in,not to sure really.

  9. guys some info would be nice please, i woke up today to find that my car was gone, when i went downstairs i still have the 2 keys in my kitchen draw, not to sure how they have managed to nick it as it is puss button start with no key ignition. i spoke to the police and they said if they really want a car they will get it regardless, dirty car thiefs :tsktsk:

  10. Hi guys, sorry if someone has already covered this but my 06 plate is 220d went in for the fifth injector recall and had the egr valve done and a new cat fitted as well, also a ecu upgrade, now granted my fuel economy is better, but the car has now got terrible flat spots in 1st,2nd,3rd gear up to when the turbo kicks in,up until i had the work done the car was like a rocket. to be honest there's more pull in me wife' focus 1.6 now

any help would be great cos i am seriously losing my patience now.

I don't now get a flat spot on my '06 220d SE in 1st but it can be a bit tricky with 2nd if I am trying to emerge at a junction in 2nd when the car has a bit of momentum on the approach to the junction. I had the 5th injector & ecu done a few weeks ago but not the egr valve. Can't say that I've particularly noticed a great problem with 3rd.

Now that the weather has turned cold I do find that, until it's warmed up pretty, well that I do have a problem engaging 1st gear from neutral & 2nd can be difficult as well - needs a fair bit of effort to select the gear.

Did your egr get changed without any question or did you have to "push them" to do it? When I had the injector done I asked about the valve but was told that it didn't need doing  as part of the recall.

hi ,the egr valve was done without me asking and the cat was changed for whatever reason (i don't really know) but when i asked they said the egr valve contributed to the mpg problem (not to sure really, don't know to much about cars)

  12. Well guys, i asked Lexus Recall department today while i was sorting other things with them, and they said they dont have anything on computer regarding the hand brake recall, so Andy did you get a letter from Lexus to say about a recall or from the dealer? please let me know, as my hand brake dont hold the car every so often the first time i apply the hand brake, and it will take a few go before it hold, and i would like to get it fit under recall if its available..

    thank matey.

    Regards

    Maz

WOW, i thought it was just me with this problem. I mean ive been driving 11 years so i certaqinly know how to put a handbrake on, but every now and again i find the car rolling backwards out of a parking space. i have to apply the handbrake so hard that i have difficulty in releasing it again.

hi guys all the work ( and letter come from lexus chester) and was sorted out,the car ended up having new brakes and discs all round due to a fault (covered on the warranty)

  13. hi guys just a bit of info for the new is 220/250 drivers.i was driving home from work last week with both front windows down due to the warm weather, when i turned onto my drive at low speed using the brakes and noticed a clicking noise coming from the front wheels.i took the car to lexus chester and the techi said the front calipers where faulty and replaced them on the warranty.( you can only hear the clicking noise when the windows are down and the radio is off)i hope this info helps a few people
