  1. I recently bought an IS300 SportCross and the lady who owned it told me the windscreen had been replaced and since then the alarm goes off whenever it rains. I discovered the front passenger door had a faulty sensor so i mended that, but after a night of heavy rain I woke up to lit headlights and rear lights. When I inserted the key in the ignition the lights went off, but came on again around 30 seconds later. After an hour or so the car had dried up and the lights turned off on their own.

I found and read this thread before diving under the dash to have a look at the Theft warning ECU. It looked perfectly fine on the inside though.

The rain started pouring down again and I could see the occasional drop of water falling on top of the right side fuse box. Upon closer inspection I noticed some of the connectors looked pretty corroded and nasty. I decided to remove the fuse box, disassemble it and clean it thoroughly.

This pin had almost corroded right off

The main problem is of course the leak around the windscreen, but I bet this clean didn't hurt. I just thought I'd post this to add to the knowledge if anyone else has the same problem in the future.

  2. I just wonder how the is250 will work in snow ?

The 250 does a lot better than the 200. I've driven mine through two Swedish winters on 18" Bridgestone Blizzak WS70 winter tires. The VSC won't even let you lose control, but if you get a chance I would suggest going to a snow covered parking lot, turning the traction control off and doing a bunch of skids. That's the best way to learn how your car behaves and how to prevent it from spinning out of control.

  3. I've been reading about wet sanding for a while now and today I finally bought everything I need to restore all my lights.

Unfortunately I left the 800 and 1200 grit papers in the garage, so I just tried the 2000 paper and the polish. I need the 800 grit paper to remove the stone chips, but at least I managed to remove the yellow hazyness from my old fog lights.

    This is what I used

And these are the first result. I will post a tutorial when I'm finished

  4. Hi there,

I'm toying with the idea of buying a second 1G-FE engine and fully refurbing it before i drop it in the car. But to do that i'll need an engine cradle so i can work on it safely and without damaging the engine.

So does anyone know the basic dimensions of the mounts on the engine? Any other hints and tips would be useful.

    Thanks.

I've got a second engine currently sitting in a cradle that is movable so that I can spin it around. I'll try to measure the cradle on tuesday.

  5. I found a adapter for fitting D2 bulbs in a H7 socket and was wondering if it was something similar to HB3/HB4.

I want to fit a D2 bulb to make it look more OEM and i guess you all know why.

The police isn't to happy about aftermarket Xenons and occasionally the reroute the traffic to find people with aftermarkets(!).

So i was hoping i could trick the police because the IS 200 LE 2002-> use D2 plugs?

Does anyone here have any pictures of a LE Headlight? And does it use the D2r bulb?

IS200 (-02 onwards) HID headlights uses D2R bulbs and the ballasts are fitted underneath the lights.

This is an HID headlight from a 2002 IS200.

  6. Hello. I was just given a not entirely complete 1G-FE engine that now sits in my garage. I'm not sure what to do with it but it feels god to have a backup in case something breaks down in my engine.

Until then, though, If any of you would like to know what your engine blocks look like from any angle or if you want closeups of the oil plug, oil filter or whatever, please let me know and I'll take pictures of it :) Cheers

  7. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JDL-LEXUS-IS200-IS30...id=p3286.c0.m14

Anyone got it or thought of buying it? I dont mind the look of it its not high or too crazy looking. Just a bit pointy!? Might suit with a trd kitted is i'd say. Just wondered if anybody had it on with some better pics of it?

A friend of mine bought the whole kit a year ago, everything was about 5-10cm too wide to fit the car. The boot spoiler felt really cheap and somewhat asymmetric.

Last time I checked with him he was about to throw it all away.

  8. I've had a hard time deciding which rear lights to go for. I've therefore ended up with five different pairs of which one is sold. These are the ones I've got left.

Yesterday I decided to make a somewhat useful contribution to this forum and those of you who wonder what your IS200s would look like with some other rear lights.

I put my camera on a tripod and had it take pictures as I mounted all of the rear lights, one at a time. I then spent quite a few hours making this web based, interactive rear lights swapper, using notepad and photoshop. Unfortunately my HTML coding skills aren't perfect and for some reason the images doesn't line up exacly as they should in MS Explorer. In Firefox though, it seems to be working :)

Here you go, please click the image to visit the swapper. Then click the rear lights and the rear fog lights to have them swapped and switched on.

    Cheers! :)

  9. We dont have any TUV in sweden...the TTE kit is not legal in sweden....Toyota tried to get it legal but failed i think....but i think the chances are good..there a not alot of IS200 here in sweden so they might think the supercharger is standard

Actually it might be possible to get the TTE kit legal now, as the regulations were much different back then. However, the car your supercharger kit came from has passed its MOTs every year since 2004 :) If it does fail because of the supercharger, just remove the belt temporarily.

  10. i would get one in sweden then it wil be LHD... for prices have a look on autotrader.co.uk for a good idea
i wonder why you would want one in right hand drive, as a new driver it would be a lot easier if she drove a left hand drive

is there any reason why you cant buy one from Sweden or a euro country

remember when you go to sell it it will be less if its the opposite driving side so any savings made now may well be lost later

LHD would be nice, but I just had a feeling they are very expensive compared to the UK ones. Also, it's about the "adventure" of buying a car and driving it through six(?) countries to get home :)

You're right, though, It would be pretty hard to sell an RHD Mini in Sweden. We didn't think of that

Sara looks lovely by the way :D

i know, i know, i just say what everyone else is thinking

    So do I :D

  11. I'm not sure this is the right place to ask, but at least you probably know more about this than I do :)

It's time for my girlfriend to buy her first car and she's been totally in love with the old Mini for quite a while now. My initial concerns were safety related, but then I realized the old Mini was produced until 2000 and the later models should at least follow the strict safety regulations. Of course I'd rather be in a slightly bigger car in a crash, but is it safe for its size? Also, are they reliable?

We've been searching Autotrader a lot but I'm pretty sure you can't compare the prices to what Minis are worth in Sweden. A decent one from 1997 is about £4500 over here. How much would you say is a decent price for a UK Mini in working condition?

Here she is, Sara. The 599 GTB doesn't really match her mpg demands :whistling:

    Kindest regards

  12. Solhatt, you're probably right. At least in Sweden IS200s from 2002 onwards had optional automatically adjusted HID headligts that look the same as the ones on the IS300.

This is a stock IS200 -02 with standard HIDs

    6975039584.jpg

I don't know why they didn't reach the UK until later.

Also, if you're looking for an aftermarket HID kit, www.xenonkungen.se sells really good ones. If you don't mind ordering them from Göteborg, Sweden, that is :)
