  1. Hi, yes the choice is "diseasel" but compared to my Fiat engined Vectra I am turning up major issues with this engine and even though a company buy it will be 2nd hand and a year old so a bit of foresight is good. My sincere thanks for the answers guys.
  2. Hi folks, I have been registered for ages as I was contemplating buying an LS430 then a GS300 with an opt out scheme a few jobs ago. I am now possibly going back into the company car scheme and looking at a low mileage IS220D SE or SE-I/L around 2009 or so as they are great value and so much more pleasant than a 3 series / C-class. I currently own and run a Vectra CDTi and they have EGR, swirl flap/inlet manifold and Dual mass flywheel issues as the main source of engine problems. I see the EGR thing mentioned and cleaning of this even with a co. car does not phase me, but what of the DMF or swirl flaps can anyone advise on these as an ongoing problem, plus anything else know to early failure. I adore the styling of these cars and the Lexus brand as a whole so plan to persuade my new employer as he is very flexible on cars ;-) Thank you in advance for any advice or light you can shed on my questions.
  3. Thanks for the welcome, its always appreciated. I am fairly mechanically adept so when looking at a car i can ususally spot any damage repairs and knowing the Lexus Brand the engine and gearbox should be fairly easy to learn but am always keen to learn what others have experienced in the way of flaws and problem areas, with 7's I was able to spot a wrong'un at 100 yards but no almost nothing about the history of the GS. I have a car earmarked a few miles from me good mileage from the pic's a straight body and once I get the chance to see it in the metal I'll have the boiler suit and camera along with a pry bar and other usual bit's n bob's handy to get under the skin as it were. B) I hope to be a regular visitor and will of course update on how I get along over the coming weeks.
  4. Hi Folks, Thought I'd say hello, I am currently looking for a GS300 (Navigator hopefully?) around 2000/01 this marks a move from BMW 7 Series (where I am involved in co-running a similar type of info. forum to this) I am aware of the quality and reliability of Lexus but as a very loose guide are there any particular weakness's or checking points to look at on my potential aquisition? Many thanks in advance.
