  1. Hi,

Around 10 minutes into a 2 hour long journey today my stereo cut off? I was listening to a cd, then i heard a pop/crack from all speakers and lost all sound. After a few seconds it came back on but went back off just as quick. I assumed it was my cd worn out so changed to another disc but got the same result. It also happens when listening to the radio. After trying some different things ( to no avail) i realised that this only happens if the volume is higher than around 28. Has anybody experienced similar problems? I pulled over to turn the engine off and back on to check if the amplifier was "clipping" but thats not the case. Have i blown a fuse? or is it knackered?

Any help would be appreciated as listening to the radio below 28 with the road noise in an IS250 is impossible!

I dont want to take it to Lexus if its just a fuse etc.

Amplifier "Clipping" only causes distorted sound. It waon't cause cut out. This sounds very much like a heat related problem. One of the componenets is not performing above a certain temperature, probably on the output/drive stage of the amp', or the power supply/regualtor is faulty. If it were a fuse blown, it would stay blown and the amp' would be completely dead and not power up again. Suggest a visit to the dealer as this is a repair/replace job.

cheers for the reply pal, im going to book it in tomorrow. my warranty is up so i dread to think what this is going to cost if the amp needs replacing.

  3. To be fair the iPhone itself can actually transfer an entire address book at one time via Bluetooth - it's a shame Lexus / Toyota didn't implement this functionality in the carkit as it would make life easier for most phones - ie one big pull rather than multiple contact pushes via Bluetooth.

The Lexus Bluetooth is very basic compared to some cars.Would be even a bit better if you could browse the phonebook and directory. So if you use your work phone, you get work contacts, if wife uses her pink Samsung in the IS when she is driving, she get's all her friends contacts, etc. That would be much better in my opinion.

gunther, it does do what your saying here!

  4. as somebody has already stated, the Iphone will use all the original contacts so stick your sim in another phone (sonyerricson if possible) then register the Iphone and your done. you will have problems with people hearing you properly when using the Iphone (as i do). as you may have noticed, the Iphone is great for all the stuff most phones CANT do, but isnt that good with the basic stuff (like calling people or texting!)

also a thin layer of denim/cotton etc. (a pocket) can render the Iphone "out of reach"

all things that are the iphones fault as my s/ek850i was perfect for the lexus.

  5. The site is getting more and more packed with bad points/cons/pet hates etc. Many of which usualy ring a bell (oh yes mine does that anoying thing too, or yes my dealer unfortunately said that). Lets bring back the threads of good points and joy!

BMW drivers reading this must feel smug, lets get it back on a good note!!!

I.E. ( and this is true and not just an example) I had my IS250 30k service done for free because i queeried the fact that the book was not stamped for the 20k one which it turned out had been done!! and they still valeted it. (Lexus Liverpool)

  6. I've always asked myself, does the DVD player has any use at all? I only use it to listen to DVD audios (which is very good), but for movies it is a total waste in my opinion, especially since it can't be viewed while the car is in motion...

ive "unlocked" the dvd in motion thing and some times leave dvds on for my daughter to watc whilst im driving. beware though, doing this causes the phone menu to start as if you were stopped, but the straight to speed dial it "normaly" does is far better and the destination input part of the sat nav dosent unlock anyway!! slightly dissapointing after a couple of hours graft and chopping your wiring loom!

  7. Well, the new car was delivered to my door at 730 this morning - yippee! Looks stunning - now I just need to get everything set up in it, whilst waiting for my insurers to confirm cover transfer...

First things first, the seat belt buzzer. There is a thread in the forum which says go to ign-on, press and hold the trip reset (having made sure it's on Odo to start with) for 15 seconds, clip the seatbelt in whilst holding the trip reset down and there should be an option popping up in the display, which can be set using the satellite switch. Nope, nada: all that happens is the trip A mileage comes up. Is this another egg that Lexus have removed on legal advice, or am I not not doing the procedure 100%?

Thanks in advance for any pointers!

nothing at all on here works to get rid of the most annoying sound in the world!!! ive tried everything on the net, and although many seem to work on US models etc. im yet to find one that works in the UK :-(

  9. a friend of mine was invited to Lexus Manchester (where he wought his car ) for a "VIP weekend". they were offering special deals for valued customers (this was his 2nd car from this particular dealership)

his car is a 2006 GS300 SE (heated cooled leather, MM, xenons etc. etc.) with 23000 miles and ofcourse full history from said dealership.

he had been interested in an RX (not the hybrid ) they had on the forecourt, and asked about a PX deal. The RX was a 55plate with leather but no MM pack, more miles than the GS and in a champagne gold colour.

As a rough estimate of his car in its condition etc. we thought a private sale might fetch around £17000??

The RX was up for £18000, and after careful consideration the guy at Lexus told my friend that for his car and £6000 tha Rx was his!

As you can imagine my friend left and a deal was not made!

  10. I have just bought a IS250, on driving home I thought I would put the stereo on, switched it on, it all lights up but there's no sound, the numbers go up and down but no sound still. It's the one without the sat-nav. Am I doing something wrong? Is there any fuses I can check please.

im not trying to teach you how to suck eggs i hope but have you pressed in the volume button for andio on/audio off? i often do this by accident. also if you play a song that realy tests the limits of the stereo (which takes some doing! ) it cuts out as the amp "protects its self" also known as "clipping" but turning the ignition off and then back on resets this.

  11. Yep - handbrake on AND motionless to get a picture. (You can't get away with hand/footbrake just a bit on if you know what I mean). It uses the pulse sensor as well.

Easy enough to hack when you get one though.

yes, i found this the hard way! earthed the red wire to cancel out the handbrake and it worked (when i took the handbrake off)

so i put it all back together and went for a spin, only to find it goes off anyway once you move off! ( didnt want to short the other two wires as not realy interested in nav Bluetooth options and heard it goes a bit jumpy? )

  12. hi there, i heard/read thet the nav hack makes the sat nav gps a bit jumpy, so for this reason after ripping my interior apart i decided to just earth the red wire for the dvd whilst moving and not the two for the nav/bluetooth override.

THIS DOES NOT WORK. releasing the hand brake no longer affects the dvd but the gps signal tells the MM that your moving anyway. TANGO mentions in a thread somewhere about installing a switch, i would reccomend this approach if you decide to go ahead.

p.s. its not as hard as it seems and can be done in half an hour with the right equipment/tools.

i think ill "open her up" on saturday and do the job properly this time!
