  1. Hello Gents,

I noticed that my IS220D SE-L, has quite "short" Gears, this is what I mean:

    1st gear 20km alsmost 3000rpm

    the same for 2nd 3rd 4th

5th gear drives up to 120km at 3000rpm

I must change to 6th gear above 130-140km/h that means almost 2500rpm

I noticed other IS220D have more power transmission, that is, the 5th gear can drive smoothly up to 140++km/h with low revs , lets say 2200-2500, and 6th gear is only used above 150-155km/h.

Do you think my IS220 is fitted with a strange differential axis?

    Thank you

  2. Hi all, I haven't been around here much for the past year or so. Used to have a S/C'ed IS200 which I sold and purchased a Mondeo ST220. Great car, but I feel it doesn't offer me what I want from a car now to be honest. I'm after a bit of executive luxury, without having to buy a wafto-barge, so am thinking of getting an IS250. I test drove one a few years back when I took my IS200 in for a cambelt change at Lexus Reading, so I know it's a nice car to drive.

If I buy one though, I want one with ALL the toys (including the Mark Levinson kit), with a 2.5 petrol engine, autobox. How often do these realistically come up for sale? Can't afford new, so I'm looking second-hand. Am I going to have a long wait on my hands?

Geia sou Nick the Greek...Agglia briskese? Gia to diesel to skeftese?

  3. I had gone for the 10k miles service before I travel 5k miles this summer, I have just checked the level of the engine oil. It seems quite low just above the lowest limit. The instruments did not indicate any warnings. Do you think it is normal? Have you ever had to top up your engine oil?

    Thank you

    Regards

    Lion

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I have driven with 4 passengers, fully loaded, air-condiotion was most of the time turned on. The average speed on German and Italian motorways was 100+miles/hour. I think it is reasonable to consume a bit of engine oil...

  4. This IS was designed to be run on mineral oil - in fact early on Lexus did state that the car was supposed to be cheaper to service - and the oil was a key factor. It's probably one reason for Lexus having fixed servicing (10k/12m), but no dealer will offr you mineral oils.

    It turns out that:

    1) Dealers try and you flog you oil at ridiculous prices - like up to £20 p/litre - mobil1 10/40 Fully Synth (when you can buy the oil for £23+Vat for 4 litres at Costco...!!!) - like every sller, customer servic slogans are great for drawing people in, but their "bottom line" is what floats their boat!!

    2) The new IS looks to be far more expensive to service than any of the competition over a typical 60,000 miles

    3) Don't know what it cost to to service an equivalent IS200/300 over 60K, but my estimation is that new IS will cost approx £1380 just in standard servicing

Just to put things into persepective, my Old A4 would have cost me £650ish over 60,000 for basic servicing

Bottom line is that it is a Top end expensive car, so you really need to put the best oil you can afford in and dealers will always play the conscience card. Lexus's are not cheap to service, and it's one (more) area where it does appear to be lagging behind...

I would suggest that we should all start to provide our own oil - should knock £50-60 odd quid off the servicing costs and send a clear mesage to the dealerships....I suppose someone has to pay for the classy showrooms with B&O televisions, Saturday car wash clubs etc...

Thank you for your response. I agree with you. It is a disgrace the service they provide to us. The 10k service costs 185 pounds when in Germany for the same car the service costs only 150EUROS.

I am thinking seriously to report UK dealers to Lexus in Belgium (Centre of Lexus)

  5. I would agree with most of the comments made above, adding the following:

Thank you very much Gents for your valuable comments

    1. Remember that the bluetooth will not let you dial whilst moving, or even select an entry from the phone book! That is of course Nannying gone mad, but it is a major inconvenience.

    2. The DVD will not play images whilst moving, so has very limited functionality.

    3. You cannot add speed camera POIs to the Sat Nav, again a major inconvenience.

    4. There is no 7-digit postcode search in my 2007 model, I believe it is still the case with the 2008 models.

    5. Most annoying of all you cannot enter destinations whilst moving, a safety feature which will ensure that if I ever buy another Lexus I will never specify a built-in Sat Nav system again.

Of course you can over-ride nos. 1,2 and 5 with major hardware surgery, but it's a hassle.

    Good luck!

1/ like PLEWIS said you can dial if you store the numbers in Speed Dial.

2/ this is a safty feature that appear on most if not all Sat Nav and in car Dvd system, factory fitted or after market.

3,4,5/ the Lexus Sat Nav system is not perfect, but i can say its the best i had the chance to use compare to others.

  6. Hello

I have an IS220D. It is lefthand drive with km/h speedo. Does anyone know how to change from km to miles, otherwise DVLA is not convinced that the car can be registered in the UK.

It is rediculous because the car is compliant with european standards. They dont bother about left hand drive but they do about miles...

    Thank you
