  1. Well its been a winter of up and downs ups were i got new apex springs on, lightened flywheel and a new clutch too. The downs were a cracked screen during defrost and getting towed to work because of the snow lol. But the winter has backed off and today filled the tank then went out onto the yorkshire moors. Went threw castleton and all the back roads sun out dry roads just brought the smile back i loved it.

People say the 200s are underpowered but i think there just right not too slow and not too fast to get into trouble..just right. I got into a valley and the cat back exhaused was exhagerated with a deep rumble spot on.

    Perfect handling and ride too.

Couldnt ask for a better car and its certainly made me want to evolve it over the years to come.

overall a brillent day thanks to the lex :D

  2. My car was idling at 500 rpm which I think was a bit low so decided to give the throttle body a bit of cleaning. I took off the whole plastic air box and used a cloth sprayed with carburettor cleaner and wiped off the black stuff inside the throttle body. I tried to wipe as far inside as I can. After cleaning, I started it with the airbox still not connected and it was idling at around 2000rpm with engine malfunction light ON. Turned the engione off and connected everything back (the hose and the air sensor) as it was. Started it again but still idling at about 1800rpm, goes down to about 1200rpm when put on DRIVE then goes back to 1800 when put on NEUTRAL. Idle doesn't go down even when the car is hot. I've tried to reset the ECU but no luck still. It's annoying really. Can someone advice me what to do please. Thanks.

did u remove the throttle body off the manifold if so did you se a new gasket they can normally split causing a air leak and a fast idle. You normally get a system lean code too.

  3. Hi Peeps,

well i just went to change my road tax disc on my windscreen and i noticed theres a small puddle of water in the section where the cigerette light is and after close inspection theres a damp area just above the rear view mirror area.

My question is since its been snowing im guessing the snow has expanded the seals and allowed water to seap through it. Ive had issue with the seals in the past but not water droplets entering into the car. I did have issues with wind noise but wasnt willing replace the windscreen as i just turned up the music volume to drown the noise.

Im now worried that since a lot of water droplets have entered the car, how much would it cost to replace the seal or will i have to replace the entire front screen?

    help :((

    Colin

hi there the screens are bonded in so it will be a new screen as you cant remove them without damaging it.

  4. Ormi is right there the same at the end ov the day. I worked on both brands before lexus and toyota seperated its all the same. I sit the same courses as ormi as its the exact same tehnology applied. I work on a joint toyota/lexus site so i understand the difference in labour rates and the way they are one brand at the end of the day. I do know the there are going to be big AFTERSALES changes in lexus next year. And as some of you are aware ther is no more Lexus GB its called lexus division its back to a division of Toyota. But if you want to get lexus service just try ringinging them for ideal price you like to pay i know where i work they do price matching now and its certinly attracted a lot of attension But i dont see any reason not to get your lexus serviced by toyota but its always worth trying a bit of (banter) for a lower price you want. If you ring up and say my cars done for example 30k and its 4 yrs old you will get a fixed (matrix price) But try calling and saying i want to have a custom service then you can say wat you want and what your prepared to pay. Then what happens is the service advisor will get the price of the parts and work out the labour rate to et it into your ideal price range. My works offer this and as far labour rates go the ball will be in your court. :winky:

But its totally up to you and what your happy with guys

    Hope that helped

  5. Try to find a Mercedes slk 230, clk 230 or c230 supercharger. TTE used the same supercharger (M62) the only difference is that the Eaton M62 supercharger fitted on the Mercs has also a magnetic clutch. Here is one:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/98-03-MBZ-S...sQ5fAccessories

Brilliant!!! looks like a trip down to some car breakers are in order. Would the clutch have to be locked up? Also the tensioner is it the supra tensioner you used for your install?

  6. i understand where you are comming from. If the faults were fixed first time would you still have the car or was it the car itself? Lot of it sounds like lack ov quality control. Normally after a major repair there should be a quaility control system set up. We have our workshop controller/forman quiltiy control work carried out. Not to catch the techs out but to ensure the completed jobs is perfect if its not its given back untill hes happy.

  7. what is the fault code?

Well, my bad is that I didn't write down the fault code. I am sure it was related to bank 1 - wondering if there are seperate fault codes available for front and back sensors?

Peco84, thanks for the reply. What do you think, could the impendence checking while cold on both of these sensors reavel, which one is faulty?

you will have to get the code it will pin point which sensor is either faulty or reading a abnormal signal like lean or rich mixture.

  8. Bank 1 is the first three cyclinders so the front cat the rear three are bank2 then you have a third sensor bank 1 sensor 2 in the center pipe after the cat too so you will have to see if its sensor 1 which is berfore the cat (in manifold) of sensor 2 which is in the center pipe

    Hope this helps

  9. my 220d 2006 is doing 30 mpg at best! gearbox is worse than an old maxi i had 20 years ago the clutch is numb and gratety in feel it stuggles to keep up with traffic under 2500 revs puffs white smoke every now and then and the paint very soft hope potenial buyers read this post!!!! after a recall visit to lexus newcastle had one of there guys drive my car his verdict for poor respose below 2500rpm was poss egr valve in need of cleaning out or particulate filter? problem. car i was given was much better under 2500rpm felt the same above 3000rpm has anyone cleaned out their egr valve? and if so was it an easy job? and wot the hells the particulate filter and wheres it located? can it be cleaned? i can live with the cars other problems if i could just sort out the flat spots at low rpm any feedback welcome

    2006 IS220d

Had the 5th injector replaced 3 months ago included with the recall ...I think stearing and back brakes???

2 weeks ago I started to do some investigation into the known problems.

    Now last week Oct 28

VSC FAULT displayed then the car went into protect mode (no power above approx 2000rpm)

Now have been told by Lexus its the VGR valve.

Now I have to pay wait for it .........£640 !!!!! for the replacement.

The funny thing is I could see this

    No more investigating for me.

Hello have they attempted to clean it out berfore writing it off? And whats the price of the part because you only get 43mins to replace them or .8hrs

  10. I know that (Some?) BMW dealers end their techs on courses. My son in law has been on every one going, so I imagine that it's probably the same with other premium brand dealers. However, some may try to cut costs and not send all of their techs on every course needed - they cost the dealers a packet. Also, when a dealer takes on a new tech, say from VW to Lexus/BMW/Merc or other, it may be some time before they get on to their 1st course to learn the particular intricacies of another brand.

Not all Lexus dealers are good. I got rid of my 220d after it had been in to the workshop 3 times, and came out each time with another problem caused by, or during, the work that had been carried out.

Ironically, I had a call from their sales dept this morning, obviously trying to drum up trade. They were told in no uncertain terms that as far as I was concerned the Lexus brand has been a big let down & I will never have another one.

Thats quite unfortunate was it the service that you got or the overall brand that made you choose not to have another lexus? Wat happent with your deisel pal?
