  1. @Ishy - tyre size don't mean anything if you if people get more negative or positive offset wheels to you due to clearance etc :D

what kind of look are you after? wheels poping out of the guards? wheels flush with the guards?

keep in mind stock wheels are 17x8 +50.

    HKS D1GP aristo/GS300 as we know it (JZS161) runs 19x9 +38 Front on 245/35R19 tyres, 19x10 +35 rear on 275/30R19 tyres.

but yeh if your car is a daily drive 8.5 front 9.5 rear would be good.

don't remember to use search functions on forums though :D

    but here you go

    from club lexus

    GS wheels fitment

The stock GS 17" wheels, as far as I know, are 17x8 with 235/45/17. I have owned two sets of aftermarket wheels for the car, 19" VolkRacing AV3 19x8.5 +38 front and 19x9.5 +38 rear, and now I have the 20" HRE 540R 20x8.5 +32 front and 20x10 +43 rear. I would classify my 19" setup as a conservative setup as it doesn't flush totally with the fender but have zero rubbing issue, whereas with the HRE, the setup is very aggressive and is flush perfect with the fender, but has slightly rubbing which was fixed relatively easy.

The following are the wheel sizes that I would suggest for the GS (if you don't want to have a staggered setup, just put whatever for the front in the back). When I say the setup is conservative, it means you don't have to do any fender modification. When I say aggressive, that means you probably have to do the rolling or shaving. And in the case of professional, then some major suspension changes would have to be made in order to fit the wheel, and should be left to professionals hence I won't go over how here.

    18" Difficulty

    18x8 +32 18x9 +32 conservative

    18x8.5 +38 18x9.5 +38 conservative

    18x8.5 +38 18x10 +44 conservative

    18x8.5 +32 18x10 +42 aggressive

    18x9 +38 18x10 +42 aggressive

    18x9 +35 18x10 +35 professional

    19" Difficulty

    19x8 +32 19x9 +32 conservative

    19x8.5 +38 19x9.5 +38 conservative

    19x8.5 +38 19x10 +44 conservative

    19x8.5 +32 19x10 +42 aggressive

    19x9 +38 19x10 +42 aggressive

    19x9 +35 19x10 +35 professional

    20" Difficulty

    20x8.5 +38 20x9.5 +38 conservative

    20x8.5 +38 20x10 +44 conservative

    20x8.5 +32 20x10 +42 aggressive

    20x9 +38 20x10 +42 aggressive

    20x9 +35 20x10 +35 professional

** on 20" wheels for the GS, keep in mind that the wheels are out of spec so the overall diameter is off by about 6%. Your speedometer would be off, meaning that when the speedometer says 80mph, you are actually going at around 85mph already. Plus, because of the 1" larger diameter overall compared to 18" or 19" (with tires), you have to be careful with your lowering. From my experience, if you lower your car to 2 fingers, provided that you have the correct offset, you shouldn't rub (or very slightly) the top of the wheel well. If you go 1½ finger gap or less, when going over uneven road or dips, you will most likely rub the top part of the wheel well. Over time you will see part of the rubber wheel well flap got rubbed away. Moreover, with 20", you will rub when you put your steering wheel at full lock (either left or right) and mostly when backing up. This is due to the bigger diameter and when you turn, you rub the front and back of the wheel well (this is one reason why 20" are the biggest rims you can put on the GS with reasonable widths).

When it comes to tires for the GS, the following setup are preferred:

    Wheel Size Tires Within Spec?

    18x8 235/40/18 245/40/18 yes

    18x8.5 245/40/18 yes

    18x9 245/40/18 255/40/18 yes

    18x9.5 275/35/18 yes

    18x10 275/35/18 285/35/18 yes

    19x8 235/35/19 245/35/19 yes

    19x8.5 245/35/19 yes

    19x9 245/35/19 255/35/19 yes

    19x9.5 275/35/19 yes

    19x810 275/30/19 285/30/19 yes

    19x8 235/40/19 245/40/19 no (fat setup)

    19x8.5 245/40/19 no (fat setup)

    19x9 245/40/19 255/40/19 no (fat setup)

    19x9.5 275/35/19 no (fat setup)

    19x10 275/35/19 285/35/19 no (fat setup)

    20x8.5 245/35/20 no

    20x9 245/35/20 255/35/20 no

    20x9.5 275/30/20 no

    20x10 275/30/20 285/30/20 no

Keep in mind different brands of tires, even with the same profile, will be different too. So for very marginal setup (read: aggressive), the tires might provide the 1 or 2mm that makes all the difference. Tires like the Bridgestone SO3 and Dunlop P9000 are very rounded and "meaty". The rounded corners will help to avoid rubbing. On the other hand, from my experience, Nitto, Pirelli, Yokohama, etc... tires are very "square" so they might enhance the rubbing factor.

  2. could me having disconnected the light for the ash tray have anything to do with it?

yes, the lighting is earthed at various points, one of the points it at the centre console with the ashtray lighting

alright I'll give it a go and see if pluging the light back in will fix the problem. I havent had it plugged in for quite sometime now because I put coins in the ashtray and man does it heat up with the light on.

  3. ok, well the dimmer switch only controls the rev/counter speedo stuff, not the others. You could check the "panel" fuse (driver's side fuse box), though I thought this would be either working properly or not. Also check the tail lamp relay, also in the driver's side fuse box.

which fuse should I check? and how would I know if the relay is stuffed?

It's labelled "panel" on the diagram on the inside of the fuse box lid.

As for the relay, you could at least check that it's not making a buzzing noise (which would indicate that it's stuck). I will try and find something more useful though.

ahh alright cool. UK is RHD as well right? haha i'll check both foot wells anyway

  5. It might sound silly, but I would try turning the dimmer switch back and forth several times to see if it's just dirty. Did this suddenly stop working or is this perhaps the first time you've tried it since you've bought the car ? The dimmer switch just connects directly to the dash illumination.

Could there be LEDs in there that another owner put in and the dimmer switch isn't controlling them (some LEDs really don't like dimming) ?

I've had the car since new. all standard parts in the dash. i've tried playing with the dimmer and even pull out the cluster surround to check the dimmer but no luck. like the lights seem to be only 3/4 brightness. worst comes to worst i'll take it to a electrician or lexus to fix it.

  6. Try looking at it 1st the connection might have come off the back or just need a clean.

tried that all connecters are fine. dash lights don't work without the dimmer switch which completes the circuit. I found a "DIMMER" relay or fuse in the engine bay is that what should be checked next?

  7. hmm from the pics it doesnt look that bad. you could probably fix it up through getting used parts from wreckers. the wheel you may have to check for egging. suspension assembly to see if anything is bent. but yeh but the looks of it. you might need the following.

    - new radiator

    - radiator mounts

    - front quater panel

    - front bar

    - new racing hart wheel (possibly)

    - new tyre

    - new headlight

and possibly a few other things.

  8. Hi guys i'm looking to put a headrest monitor in a JDM dash tray but i'm jut not sure what monitor to get. I've seen SteveAudioX's setup and its awesome but I don't know whats included in building the same/similar setup. I did have the OEM sat nav housing before with a screen in it but I got bored and sold it off (its somewhere in greece now) so if anyone could help me out that would be fantastic. at the moment a static monitor such as the sony XVMB62 is on the cards.

    Cheers

  9. Im w8in 4 Aztec 2 do mine :whistling: but iv got LED mines the TTE front so not as easy 2 get 2 :crybaby:

What LED's do you have I have LED's also but they are crap. They are 1W retrofitted spark LED Hb4 fitment but don't shine very bright (turns the fogs into parker lights)

These r the 1`s iv got LED FOG BULBS r they like the 1`s uv got

Got them 2 match my side lights

    yep exactly what I have

  10. ok here is to clarify things. IS200 headlights (orange indicator lense) do not fit on the IS300 and vise versa. the HID IS300 headlights ( clear indicator lense) were introduced on the IS200 on the MY04.5 model which included the upgrade from the 5 spoke 17" wheels to the 11 spoke wheels for the range topping model. All MY04.5 models onwards also came with different windscreen washers, dark chrome headlights, fogs, tail lights. So yeh the IS300 lights need different fender headlight mounts. I have IS300 lights on my MY02 2003 IS200 because I custom fitted them.
