  1. I didn't explain that too well. I like to drive the car straight into the garage and then we have a door into the house from the garage. The RX fits into the garage, but I leave the garage door open to unload the boot (there is only a few inches of room once the garage door is shut). However, with the garage door open (and therefore above the car), the tailgate will hit the garage door when the tailgate is fully open. With a car (as opposed to an SUV) this wouldn't be an issue, because of the height difference. Hope that makes sense now.... Simon
  2. Thanks for the replies guys. I don't really want to do the wire thing as this is a fairly infrequent need (returning from shopping trips etc.). I will probably attach some padding to the garage door thus freeing both hands to pick up the shopping bags....
  3. I have the RX300 SE-L with the automatic tailgate and I’d like to be able to stop it halfway up, so that I can open the trunk/boot when the car is parked in my garage. If I open it manually, the gas operated struts try and open it the rest of the way. Is there a way to hold the tailgate open halfway either with automatic opening or manual? If not I’ll have to fix some padding to the inside of my garage door which would be above the tailgate with the garage door open - if I open it manually it could then just rest against the padding.
  4. Just thought I'd say hi and introduce myself. I just bought a 55 plate RX300 SE-L. 25k on the clock with towbar, side runner bars, rubber mat in the boot and roof rack bars - 17k pounds. I had compared this with X3 and X5 and honestly I just couldn't resist the value of the Lexus. I'm thrilled with the car - it's spotless. I also have spent a lot of time in the USA where Lexus is WAY more popular than the UK - so I didn't need to be sold. Mind you, the price in the USA is an almost identical number as the UK price - except the dollar is worth half as much - so Yanks are buying a top spec RX300 for about 22k pounds. Sheesh. Cars are much cheaper in the States. I've been reading the threads in the forum. I am away at the moment (California), but I can't wait to disable the seat belt beep with the wacky programming mode trick. I'm based in Essex so I'll be using the Southend lexus dealer. i couldn't see that on the dealer rating page (nor the Sidcup branch). I suppose it will show up once I review them(?). Simon
