  1. Hi Mickey Just seen your post re-noise on kick down. Absolutely delighted it worked for you; mad isn't it. Have a great Chrimney and happy New Year Roger
  2. Hi Mickey Absolutely no help from Lexus. They came out with me but advised "bring it back if it gets worse or you break down". !!!!!!! I contacted Toyota to ask if they would interrogate worldwide service records. Again, no dice and a sweet girl from customer services referred me back to my dealership (but you are welcome to take the car elsewhere she said!!!). Good news is I've sorted it but I can't say if it'll work for you, obviously. A good friend who works with performance cars took it out when I mentioned it. He brought it back after 10 minutes and invited me to check it out. He encouraged me to drive "robustly" and guess what noise gone. He told me that he had thrashed the a*se of the thing, using kick down brutally and ignoring the noise when it occurred. We have concluded that my driving style was too gentle and allowed oil ways, valves etc to gum up. I now give the car a little wellie now and again and so far so good. Hope it helps
  3. Good morning all. "Worried of Launton" will be grateful for any advice. I have an 05 GS300 (lovely!) which I've owned since 2008. It has 58,000 miles and is serviced by the dealership. I've noticed recently that if I use kick down (and I mean pedal right down to the metal) from about 50 mpg I hear a short rasping sound which I think comes from the transmission. It actually sounds like the "snick" on a manual gearbox snatch change and you've beaten the synchro. Lexus MK have no experience of this and so I wonder if any of you guys and gals can shed some light on it. I should add, this is very far from my usual driving style. Thanks all Roger
  4. No such luck Don but thanks for the suggestion. No, I'm parking where I've always parked and I'm not aware of any new services being installed in the vicinity. It did happen quite suddenly; one day fine and the next something not quite right. Cest le vie.
  5. Bit of feedback. Main battery on charge this morning; started at around 5v and over two hours reduced to just over zero. Not much wrong there I think. Tested fob battery at just over 3v so that looks OK as well. One thing I observed today was that (a) if the fob is held above the car waistline the handle unlock seems to work better and (B) fob and handle buttons need to be operated slowly and deliberately. Still not really right but getting used to it. Wonder if it'll be found on the service at end of month!! Thanks for your help
  6. Thanks for your helpful suggestions. My every day fob had a dealer changed battery 12 months ago and which I replaced with one from Halfrauds last week. My standby fob has not had a battery change but I can certainly test both. Now, revealing my ignorance. If I disconnect the vehicle battery that'll shut down the systems but doesn't that make them difficult to restore? Alternatively, if I connect the charger in-situ won't that fry something? I could use a trickle charger; would that be better? Thanks again
  7. First real problem with this great 05 car. Over the last week or so the door handles have been reluctant to respond everytime to the auto door unlock and neither do the buttons lock the car everytime. The key fob achieves the same result ie it sometimes unlocks the car and sometimes locks the car. (and I've used both my usual fob and the spare and, yes, the battreies are new!!). On a couple of occasions I've had a "key not detected" warning and a start refusal which has been corrected by bringing the key fob next to the start button. Lastly, I noticed this morning that the drivers door button initially failed to register a locked condition but a minute or two later the system worked correctly. Sounds expensive (unless you know differently of course). Any guidance will be appreciated. Roger
  8. Thanks Tigerfish but further queries. Inserted manual key but it seems that the switch is actually turned "on" (and seems to be sprung loaded in this position) and yet the dashboard warning still shows "airbag off". Should I be heading toward the dealer? Roger
  9. Good morning all. I'm new to Lexus ownership and the forum and wonder if you can help please. My car is a low mileage '05 GS300 and I'm thrilled to bits. However (you could tell that was coming couldn't you) I'm third owner and the navigation contains loads of destinations input by the other two. I'd quite like to clear out the memory of all that stuff so that I'm starting from new. I can see from the manual how to get rid of POI but not destinations. Is there a way or must my dealer reset the equipment. And finally, an easier one (I think); the display tells me that the passenger air bag is switched off. The manual tells me to visit the dealer to reset it but there is a rotary switch in the glove box. Can I simply turn the switch to "on" without anything going bang :o or should I go to the dealer (which I'm happy to do for servicing etc). Any guidance will be much appreciated Roger
