  1. Well i decided to tackle each wheel at a time. On the weekend i took the drivers side fron wheel off, removed the pads, spring clips etc. I cleaned it all up, pads with hot soapy water, same for spring clips. (Pads faces were very dirty, like a greeny/yellowy dirt. I would liken it to algae if i didn't know any better!!) There was a white silicone like substance on some of the contact surfaces which was sticky and thick! I removed all of that. I Copper Greased all contact surfaces on the pads, including the face of the pistons in the caliper. Reassembled everything. I had intended the to the passenger side front to complete the set, but didn't have time. Anyhow used the car this morning and low and behold, brakes are smooth and quiet, no clunking, no squealing what so ever. trouble is i've been here before, so if the laws of probability are correct the problem will reoccur in about a weeks time! Will keep you all posted. hutch_2003
  2. Hi Everyone. This topic may have been covered already, but i seem to have a mutation of the problem. Background: When braking at medium/slow speeds (mainly lighter braking), i get a clunk sound as the brakes apply. It is also evident when parking in forward or reverse and turning the wheel. Had the car in at Lexus Bristol who supplied and fitted the 'Brake Pad Shim Kit' and new slide pins which they said was the problem. Picked the car up, hooray no clunk, just quiet braking as expected! A week later the clunk started to occur again albeit not as loudly and not all the time, but the brakes then started to squeal all the time. Had Lexus pick the car up and fix. They say that they 're-faced' the pads and greased up all the brake parts! Got the car back and again all quiet no squeal, no clunk. A week later, clunking is back this time louder than before and more often and the brakes still squeal! I don't get how they can eradicate both issues but only for what seems a period of a week before all the problems come back. Does anyone have a definative fix for my described issue? I don't really want to send it back to Lexus as they said next time it would need new discs and pads which seems silly to me as the discs and pads are fine and work, just with loads of noise and not smoothly. Any pointers help would be greatly appreciated as starting to annoy now. Cheers all.
