Well i decided to tackle each wheel at a time. On the weekend i took the drivers side fron wheel off, removed the pads, spring clips etc. I cleaned it all up, pads with hot soapy water, same for spring clips. (Pads faces were very dirty, like a greeny/yellowy dirt. I would liken it to algae if i didn't know any better!!) There was a white silicone like substance on some of the contact surfaces which was sticky and thick! I removed all of that. I Copper Greased all contact surfaces on the pads, including the face of the pistons in the caliper. Reassembled everything.
I had intended the to the passenger side front to complete the set, but didn't have time. Anyhow used the car this morning and low and behold, brakes are smooth and quiet, no clunking, no squealing what so ever. trouble is i've been here before, so if the laws of probability are correct the problem will reoccur in about a weeks time!
Will keep you all posted.
