Hey guys. I have been reading this forum for a while but just joined. Its a 1991 LS 400 with 209,000 miles!!! Still runs strong as hell... Well its my moms car... Though i do all the servicing for it myself and I love it. (go lexus) =P. Neways... When she starts the car in the morning... There would be this whining sound that would come from the engine bay. It was most while turning i noticed. We took it to a shop and they said that the rack and pinion was deteriorated or something (i think vs bc they didnt even check it really) They quoted me ~1000 dollars to replace the rack and pinion. Well now it hasnt eben coming nemore... We noticed it from like November to Frb... So cold weather months... Do u guys think that its serious? its not there nemore... We;re gonna get it checked again... for more opinions.. I was hoping that ne of u guys could help me. Also i checked under the engine and like on the sides where there are those flex dust caps things... Those are covered in oil.. That kinda scared me. THough I dont think its leaking steering fluid because i check it often... Well lately no noise so im happy.. I dont wanna spend 1000 to fix it cuz the car is barely worth more than that to sell..
