  1. First cold morning in London today and was very surprised that the front and rear screen had lots of condensation on the inside before I had even got in the car.

More worryingly, even with the rear window heater on it had failed to fully demist the back screen after 20 minutes.

Has anyone else noticed this since the cold weather started ?

  2. Thinking about selling my car and wanted peoples opinion on what I could expect to get for it.

Lexus IS220D SE Multimedia in Black

    2007 56 plate

    Black leather interior

    Full Lexus service history

    MOT until Feb 2012

    65,000 miles

In very good condition throughout with the exception of slightly scuffed alloys.

  3. I needed a new set of tyres last week and when I told the garage the owners manual recommends 35psi in the front and 38psi in the rears they told me this is not correct and many Japanese owners manuals quote wrong tyre pressure.

I generally trust these guy's as they have no reason to lie to me, they did laugh and say they would be happy to put 38psi in the rears as this would mean I would be back for new tyres far sooner than I need to.

    They recommended 34's all round.

    Any views on this ?

  4. where was your dash rattle? and was your door rattle from/around the actual door latch/handle area?

The dash rattle seemed to be mainly from around the speaker in the centre of the dash, although this rattle would come and go with varying degrees of loudness. Sometimes I could push against the speaker and it would eliminate the rattle other times it would not.

The door was around the locking pin area and as stated they removed and refitted the entire locking barrel.

I am now very happy with the car. the only small issue I still have is the vibrating rear view mirror at speed or when the stereo is on loud.

  5. Well, my door rattle got worse, the tape around the door catch helped but did not cure. I phoned Lexus Cambridge and when I went out with a technician the first thing he noticed was the dashboard rattle. He said they had a fix for the dashboard but this required taking the whole dash out so the car would need to be booked in. I was very impressed with this level of service as they volunteered this without me even mentioning the dash rattle. He also heard the door rattle.

The car was booked in last Friday, I picked up my courtesy car and around 8 hours later I had a call saying my car was ready.

The car is now totally rattle free :D

The door rattle was due to the entire locking barrel which was slightly loose, and this was refitted on both the driver and passenger door. The dash was also refitted as per a known Lexus fix.

Fingers crossed that the car will now stay rattle free but I cannot fault the service I have received.

On another note I am also happy with my MPG, most of my driving is totally urban being located in London and I am getting around 32 to 34mpg.

When I have travelled on a longer journey I am getting between 38 - 43 MPG.

  6. Buy 2 litres (minimum sale) near work to get you home, then fill up at Shell.

You have "lost" 8p but will get home comfortably.

I can't believe we are discussing this.

I couldn't agree more. If you are worrying about how much the fuel costs then you shouldn't be in the car in the first place. Just fill the thing up and enjoy the car. Unless you've got the diesel of course.

If you read the original post the question was about the trip computer vs the actual fuel left, I was trying to establish the accuracy and wanted to see if other owners could help.

I could not care less about the 8p but the nearest garage to my work takes me in the wrong direction and I would have to sit in rush hour traffic for around 20 minutes to get there. My journey home is only 25 minutes.

As said originally I have only recently purchased the car and am trying to get an idea of the accuarate MPG.

For those of you who are interested my trip said 0 miles for about 3 miles of my journey and when I filled up I got 60 litres in.

  7. I always tend to fill up when i get down to a quarter full anyway so i don't worry about how accurate the last bit of the fuel gauge is. I know exactly what fuel consumption I'm getting because I always brim it and record the amount of fuel going in, and then zero the trip meter.

I expect most manufacturers make the gauge pessimistic so you don't run out unexpectedly through not paying attention to the gauge.

Even if you did know that when the OBC says the range left is 0, that there's still a couple of gallons left, would you really drive 30 or 40 miles happily?

No I would not but right now my trip is saying 3 miles left but my local Shell garage near home is 4p per litre cheaper than the one near my work so I wanted to make sure I can do the 7 mile journey without running out of fuel.

  8. From my experience, it does NOT ignore the reserve. Usually when my goes into reserve, I normally have around 35 miles remaining.

Interesting, when I last filled up the needle was on the "R" and I got 56 litres in the tank which indicated that there was still 9 litres remaining but my trip is showing 0-10 miles left in the tank.

On my previous Audi the trip would show zero miles left but you could still get about 20-30 out of it.

  9. There is virtually no difference per litre between petrol and diesel. Last year there was an average 13p per litre differnece between them, now as prices have gone up, there is 1-2p difference`. Can someone explain why this is other than a need to discuise the price hikes a bit better .

The 13p difference only happened last year when prices went through the roof. Before that there was always only 2 to 3p difference. The 13p difference came about because demand for diesel was higher in this country than the supply, also countries like China and India were taking a lot of diesel. The recession has eased demand for diesel so the price differential has decreased.

  10. 3 weeks into ownership and after reading many of the threads on here about the dreaded rattles I am wondering if what I am hearing are these rattles.

Its hard to describe but a snippet of conversation with my wife goes like this.

Dashboard Rattle when driving over bumps

Me "There it is did you here it ? "

    Wife "No"

Me "Listen.. did you here that ?"

Wife "Okay I did here a slight creaking noise but its not exactly loud"

Me "Yeah but it is a rattle"

Wife "Well I guess so but if you can only just about hear it , only when you drive over bumps, only when we are not talking and deliberatley listening out for it I would not call it a major issue".

From what I have read on here it seems these rattles/creaks are a lot louder than mine so I am thinking it may be hard for me to get Lexus to sort these under warranty.

  11. I have had some odd readings from my trip computer.

My journey to work is totally Urban (8 miles throught W London) so I was never expecting great MPG.

Anyway yesterday after arriving at work and the trip read 35.4 MPG which I thought was great as this is near enough what the manual states :D

Exactly the same journey today at the same time 6.45am and driving the same style as previous day and the trip read 31.8 MPG :(

There was no more traffic as I arrived at work at the same time as yesterday.

Has anyone else had quite different readings for the same journey ?

  12. I agree with Roger, generally I will read the journalists reviews but make my own judgement. When I was looking at the IS220D What Car stated "The Lexus lacked refinement", Honest Johns review stated "The Lexus is one of the most refined cars in its class".

I have owned Seats previously and whilst I liked the car I moved over to Audi as I wanted a more classy cabin, I have just changed from an Audi A3 to my Lexus and in my opinion its another step up in class over the Audi. Others will disagree but at the end of the day your the driver and the only opinion that counts is your own.

  13. I picked up my car on Saturday and it appeared rattle free but yesterday when I drove to work in the morning there is a rattle that seems to be coming from either the drivers seat, door or seatbelt casing. It only rattles when going over uneven surfaces.

Interestingly when I drove the car later on the same morning when the outside temperature had risen and the car was warm the rattle completely dissapeared so it seems that once the car (not engine) has warmed up and whatever was causing the rattle has expanded it stops.

I assume various owners have had the same problem and was wondering if anyone has any tricks to fix this ?
