  1. Hi all,

Would you believe the day after I started this thread, our baby boy decided to arrive 5 weeks early 🙂

He's doing great, I followed the advice on here and purchased the Isofix base. I don't know why I didn't just buy it with the seat, it's so much easier and feels much safer.

Thank you all for the help, I'm also looking into the Jolie, Britax and other seats mentioned 👍

Totally off topic but if the family expands I can also recommend the built in booster seats in the Volvos, VWs, SEATs etc. Odd to recommend other brands on here but it really does surprise me that more manufacturers don't offer them. There are a million things recommended to new parents to make their lives easier but few are actually any use apart from

    • Isofix
    • Built in boosters
    • nappy bins

This is so true, why don’t all cars have built in boosters 🤷🏽‍♂️ Will I need to buy a nappy bin too?! 🤦🏽‍♂️

A little more information required Baiju. I'm confused by your query. Any seat belt will hold a child seat.

What sort of base/seat combo are you looking at? What age is the child?

Hi Richard, I am attaching a Maxi-Cosi Pebble-pro seat... which will be for a new born.

I’ve fitted the seat as per the instruction using a belt, but it just doesn’t seem secure to me as you can move the seat left to right very easily.

I’m sure in the demonstration, the belt locked when it was pulled all the way out. Some car belts have a ratchet feature that engages, purely to fit seats.

  4. Is it possible to fit a child seat without isofix base into the IS300h?

The demonstration in John Lewis showed that the seat belt should lock when you pull it all the way out. It engages a ratchet system especially for child seats, however this doesn’t seem to be this case in this car.

Before I purchase the isofix base I just wanted to make sure.

Hey red-lex, love the grill upgrade, would love to do the same with mine but not as brave as you!

Have you had a go at the speakers? Not sure if your issue is the same as mine, but I seem to have a speaker at the front that kicks in and out at random. Very annoying as the sound “shifts” across the car. I’m assuming a loose connection but have not dared to try and pry up the speaker covers just yet to check...

Hi Maxz, not resolved yet. My front driver side dash speaker sounds distorted on certain tracks. I still have the extended warranty and the dealer was great with other issues. Annoyingly every time they check it sounds perfectly fine!

I can't imagine it would be too difficult to open the cover? I'm going to keep trying with the dealer for mine though.

On my last RX450h Lexus paid for the diamond cut alloys to be refurbished. Lexus Cheltenham got them done at 'Reinventing the wheel' in Tewkesbury.

I spoke to the refurbishers and they powder coated them in a shadow chrome very much like an F sport finish.

They looked fabulous against the silver bodywork and would look even better against the grey.

Cheers for that. A local refurbishing comapny recommended the same shadow chrome and I agree it would look great against the grey. I was about to book it in, but then somebody damaged my car 😞

Oh wow that looks really cool! where did you get these from? Easy to install?

Looking good on what you have done so far. Maybe get the wheels done in a darker colour.

Thanks, yeah that's not a bad idea. The original powder coat finish is quite costly compared to a paint finish.

Haha, I've done something very similar.... Apart from changing the front bumper, although I had to remove mine to fix the front grill. I have added the illuminated kick panels plus the door projector lights. Those were the quickest and easiest upgrades ever! I have installed a carbon fibre rear spoiler lip, mudflaps, wind deflectors on the windows and my biggest upgrade is replacing the display screen with an android powered 10.2in display plus added a rear view camera. I have a 10in sub box to install at some point plus some rear speakers either 6x9s or 17cm ones as have either kicking about, will decide once I have removed the rear parcel shelf. I do want to change my 17in wheels as these look too small. Other than that I think I will be done... emoji6.png

I know right, they should have just fitted those kick plates from factory like the previous MK2 SE-L. Anymore info on your android screen? I'd love to do something similar, the standard Nav/media system is pretty poor compared to other brands. The speakers and sub will definitely sound good!

  9. I owned my 2002 IS200 for 13 years which I absolutely loved. It literally never went wrong and I'd kept it in fantastic condition, with just a few subtle mods keeping a clean OEM look:

    Front splitter
    TTE rear skirt
    2004 facelift headlights and foglights
    Rear spoiler
    Genuine mesh grill
    Aluminium kick plates and pedals
    Custom heater dials
    Altezza chrome shift gaiter
Pioneer apple Carplay double-din with reversing cam

Last year a family members IS300h was offered to me so I decided maybe it was time for a change... although it was really difficult to let this one go 😞

I actually wanted an F-Sport... however as this is a high spec Premier and I knew the history of the car, it made sense to purchase.

Compared to the my IS200, this car is incredible in terms of being more powerful and about three times cheaper to run. It lacks the smoothness of the straight six but I love the torque in Sport mode.

I couldn't believe it came with plastic kick plates so I installed the illuminated versions and also aluminium pedals including footrest:

    IMG_6759.thumb.jpg.b0dfaeddc4f771a6fc3c25b121b6c3cf.jpg

I noticed that the quality of some trim panels is really poor, no way near as well put together as the IS200. The passenger electric seat motor was noisy and there was also a screen flicker. I think a couple of the speakers may not be working correctly, anybody else have issues with the ML system?

Whilst the build quality is clearly not the same, the service from Lexus Woodford was exceptional. They replaced the seat motor and screen under warranty, checked a few other items too and at the same time made sure I was never inconvenienced.

Finally I added a subtle rear spoiler and thought that would be all I wanted to do with this car.

I then saw some bumper conversion threads on other forums and realised how much better the F-Sport front looked. I looked at various conversion kits however the options available in the UK are limited and shipping costs are high.

Then one day this used F-Sport bumper came up for sale on eBay, in silver with minimal damage... along with a complete F-Sport grill from another supplier. Being close to Christmas, I waited for eBay's next site wide discount promotion and purchased both along with a set of WinJet fog lights. These were plug and play and I couldn't justify purchasing the original F-Sport LED fogs.

Foglights and grill both arrived damaged ☹  fortunately they were still usable and I negotiated some further discount to keep them.

Whilst this probably would have been enough to swap over, looking into parts diagrams I realised that all of the air ducts are different between base and F-Sport models. I made the decision to just replace all, thinking it would make fitment easier for my bodyshop.

Duct, Air Intake, Lh, Toyota 52822-53030

Duct, Air Intake, Rh, Toyota 52821-53030

Duct, Cool Air Intake, No.1, Toyota 52811-53010

Duct, Cool Air Intake, No.2, Toyota 52812-53010

Duct, Cool Air Intake, Toyota 53209-53080

Duct, Cool Air Intake, Toyota 53208-53050

It took me a while to source all the parts I wanted, with a combination of used parts from breakers and other online parts suppliers.

Below is an example of the difference between the ducts that sit behind the bumper... F-sport first then the Base version:

    IMG_5820.thumb.JPG.8a61356a397e13d8a599280815aa6937.JPG

With all the parts collected I finally handed the car over to the bodyshop... with clear instructions to carefully keep everything they remove from the car.

As the old bumper, grill, fogs and air ducts were all in perfect condition, I was fortunate to sell everything for a decent price. Recouping most of the parts cost meant this conversion ended up costing just under £300 including paint and fit.

I was absolutely ecstatic with the finally outcome, the bodyshop did a great job. Bumper needed minimal prep, silver was a good base coat for the grey and there were no issues with fitment.

Recently took the car on a road trip to the Lake District... which was also a great experience. It handles really well on twisty roads and eats up miles with ease:

Next up is to do something with the wheels... a refurb or a new set.

The updates are quite expensive at £150 each!

You're right, a dealer just emailed me with a quote for the same amount. For my IS200 I was able to find nearly new DVD updates on eBay for a lot cheaper, however the dealer has advised that HDD nav updates have to be done by them. I know you rarely need to update the maps, but it still seems extortionate when compared to the price of smart phone apps or portable sat navs!

    Hi there,

As the owner of a brand new 2016 CT200h F-Sport with Premium Navigation I can confirm that it is a cracking car with awesome ride quality and a very responsive firm chassis that is rather fun to drive!

I'm a novice 1st time Lexus owner and therefore, I cannot give you a detailed comprehensive review like others have.

I've had my car for a month now and the Prem sat nav is spot on!

    😃

That looks really amazing, I love the colour! i believe the facelift cars have a revised suspension set up, unfortunately my budget won't stretch to a new one :(

Hi I have a 2011 SE L Premier with the Nav and ML sound system. As said the Nav is great and very easy to use. The sound system is awesome I think. I've never heard anything like it before. I'm very impressed at the way there's no distortion at any volume with the music I play. Well worth getting a CT with both of these.

That's really helpful, thanks for that. Does the nav take postcodes? Have you had to update the maps at all? I think they look great in white as well!

Having recently acquired a 2007 IS-250 SE-L with ML audio and having a owned what might be termed a 'decent' home hifi system for many years, I would offer the following critique

I was originally quite underwhelmed by the ML audio system as fitted. This was possibly due to heightened expectations on my part - I had certainly made ML-Audio a must-have feature during my search.

However, I am now becoming impressed by how the ML audio deals what audiophiles refer to as 'detail' - the ability to resolve not only sound of an instrument, but the timbre as well, the attack and decay of struck notes, vocal inflections and so on. It's also apparent that the system can produce a pretty good amount of bass but only if the volume is turned up pretty loud and the source material contains it. I don't play a lot of bass-heavy tunes so it took me a while to appreciate this.

I'm less impressed by the 'spacial' presentation - personally I find the soundstage to quite focused but very narrow.

That is a fantastic review

  13. Hi all.

I've not posted on here in a while but considering changing my IS200 for CT in the near future. The difference in running costs makes the CT seem very attractive, I don't think my IS200 is particularly fast anyway.

I know the specs vary on early cars and I've decided on the features that I definitely want in the car: Memory leather seats, power folding mirrors and reversing camera - this limits my choices to either a Premier or F-Sport. I would also like a decent sound system as the amplified 8 speaker set up in my IS200 sounded great.

I love the look of the F-Sport's subtle body kit, but disappointed that it was never available with the Mark Levinson package. The only option is a 10 speaker system and these only came with the HDD navigation package.

I'm sure the Mark Levinson package sounds great, can anybody confirm? Does anybody have any experience with the 10 speaker package, is it just as good?

I was hoping to avoid having a built in sat nav with my next car, as I know the map updates are expensive and smart phone apps seem to work better. How is the HDD navigation system in the CT?

The other option I have is an to find an F-Sport without Nav, then fit an aftermarket amplifier with upgraded speakers.

  14. Hey Red-lex what ipod dock is that, and have you run it through a grom kit?

If so, did you have any probs with doing so, i cant find any docks that work with it so far!

Hi Jomo, it's a brodit cradle like this one:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRODIT-PROCLIP-915290-PASS-THROUGH-HOLDER-iPHONE-3G-/150733816985?pt=UK_Mobile_Home_Phones_Bluetooth_Acc_ET&hash=item23186f8499#ht_1184wt_1325

I have it connected to a Xcarlink which is similar to the Grom kit and works perfectly. It should work fine with the Grom too as it's just a pass through connector? I only chose the Xcarlink over the Grom as I found a used one on eBay, along with the Brodit cradle and Nokia CK7W.

  15. Nothing major but figure it may be useful. When I first started doing it I used a small screwdriver like suggested before but this damaged the grey casing.

So instead I used a paint scraper 2.5 inches wide, which did not cause any damage at all and made it easier to remove the lenses.

    cheers

Cheers for the tip mate, been thinking about doing this for a while now. Have you had any problems with the lights misting up?
