I thought I would pass on this information concerning Mk1 LS400s
My 1990 ls400 wasnt anything like cold. The refrigerant gas is R12 which is now banned.
I read about getting a R134a retrofit but it seems that there are problems with this conversion, far from ideal. I then spoke to Air conditioning northwest 01925 762328. There is a "drop in" replacement for R12 called RS24, it uses the same lubricant, seals, everything.
Its just a case of pump out the old gas and in with the new. its a lot more expensive than R134a but the guy came to my workplace to do the job and my air-con is ice cold now. £65-00 I'm happy

Ive done the sat nav bit, speedo reading 76 @ 70, 54 @ 50 so its approx 8% fast
If Iknock off the 1.5% for worn tyres I'm still reading 6.5% fast

I am looking towards putting 17" wheels on my Mk1 LS400
With the std well worn tyres my speedo is reading about 8% fast.
New tyres would be about 1.5% better ie 6.5% fast
If I fit 225/50/17 (+1.4%) speedo would be 5% fast
If I fit 225/55/17 (+5%) speedo would be 1.5% fast
If I fit 235/50/17 (+3%) speedo would be 3.5% fast
Would there be any problem using any of the above tyres My rims are GS300 10 spokes 7.5" x 17"

The aircon may not be a problem, systems lose pressure over time due to the very small gas molecules being able to seep through rubber hoses. If its not been re gassed for 3 or 4 years its probably short on gas. Slow to cool down and not getting as cold as it should are signs of low gas.
