  1. I've done some tests recently, and I found out that accelerating has a very big impact on the avg mpg, even if I accelerate slowly the avg mpg is bad. While driving on a motorway with a speed of 80mph and cruise control, the avg mph is around 36. On a 50mph road, I can even achieve a mpg of 47 ! However, when driving combined motorways and city roads my avg mpg is 29. I guess this is al because of accelerating. Even when I accelerate quite normal the mpg is even less than 8mpg, and this is as long as the acceleration longs. So, with a lot of traffic light e.g. the avg mpg is very bad. Accelerating of course has a higher mpg, but I doubt whether the huge mpg I experience during acceleration (even when done very carefully, as a test) is normal. JDN
  2. Well, I've read several post on this forum about mpg improvement to avg 40 mpg after the 5th injector has been replaced (and ECU has been remapped). But I'm sure I cannot convince my dealer with the posts on this forum. So I like to know if there's an official Lexus announcement or document about this fuel issue in respect to the 5th injector and/or ECU remapping.
  3. Hi Lexus owners, I recently bought a IS220d (jan.2007) from an official Lexus dealer with a Premium Warranty. There's one major issue with the car however and that's the fuel consumption that averages 29 mpg. On this forum I read a lot about this issue and one of the things that could possible improve the mpg is to replace the 5th injector with a new (modified) one, and to remap the ECU (whatever that may be). I spoke with my dealers service technician but he told me that this wouldn't have any effect. The 5th injector should only be replaced when it's broken and in this case you'll see an error indication in the dashboard. He also told me that 29 mpg is quite normal for an IS220d and if the 5th injector is broken, the fuel consumption will be even worse: about 15 mpg. In other words: get used to it. I think it's a pity that the dealer isn't even willing to replace the thing. And I cannot prove of course that a replacement will improve the mpg. Or can I ? Is there perhaps some Lexus document or announcement which I can refer to? What are my options? How can I get rid of the poor mpg with an unwilling dealer? Thanks, JDN
  4. Yes, this was my presumtion, but want to be sure this is abnormal (because my dealer can say: you're not using the gear the right way). I also asked my dealer recently to check my fifth injector because I've read on this forum there were modifications made to this part that reduces the fuel consumption. His blunt reply was: if this part is broken you'll get an error indication in the dashboard. But I will put this question in another topic.
  5. Hi Lexus owners, I've bought a 2007 IS220d currently with a three year Premium Warranty. Pretty happy with the car (exept for the fuel consumtion, but I read a lot about this) but I'm experiencing some problems with the transmission, especially the 2nd gear. Probably I'm not experienced enough yet for the Lexus transmission, but I like to hear your opinion: Sometimes when I switch back from 3th gear to the 2nd gear, it blocks completely. I'm not able to select the 2nd gear, whatever I try. I must first switch back to 3th or 1st and then back to 2nd to succeed. This happens especially when I must switch back fast from 3th to 2nd. Mostly when I switch back slowly everthing works fine. Is this something for the dealer to look after or is this normal behaviour (which I can't imagine). Thanks, JDN
  6. Well, in the meanwhile I found out how to dismantle the upper air vent. The 4 clips should be disengaged in a very special way. Anyway, I did the trick. Next thing however I didn't expect is that the whole vent unit is coming out, not just the vent trim (as all tutorials explain). Because the unit is resisting a little after I pull it out for half an inch, I've put the thing back because I don't know what will happen if I'm pulling too hard. Perhaps air tubes or wiring will be disconnected if I use force to get the unit out. Can anyone perhaps tell me something about this issue? Can I take out the complete air vent unit without destroying things or disconnecting wires and tubes, that I cannot reconnect again? Thanks.
  7. Hi all, In another topic I asked a question regarding the removal of the center console in an IS220d. I found some tutorials on this issue. But I'm stuck at the removal of the upper air vent trim. I can disengage the 4 clips, but the thing won't move at all. It seems still to be stuck at the top. To the left and right there's some movement in the trim (some at the bottom), but nothing at the top. Can anyone give me more detail information on how to remove this piece? Thanks.
  8. Thanks, I've found the topic. And here I found an even more detailed tutorial (for both auto trans. and manual trans.): http://www.sewellpartsonline.com/import/pdf/IS_SIRI.pdf JDN
  9. Hello everyone, I bought a two years old Lexus 220d where a telephone carkit has been mounted and connected to the audio system. Because I want to remove this carkit (and probably install a Parrot handsfree kit) I like to know how I can remove the front of the central console, so I can dismantle the device. I don't have the multimedia console, but the one you see here: http://www.dashmount.co.uk/Nov05/711068.htm I'm a little anxious to force the console front using a screwdriver, so I like to know if there's probably a tutorial on how to remove the console front. Thanks for any help. JDN
