  2. Hello all

I have just purchased as 2003 series 2 RX300. It is in great shape other than the multimedia console - the chap who owned it before me cleaned it with something abrasive and corrosive and it has made the perspex over the lcd display cloudy, and the laquer come off the buttons. I have found a replacement unit on ebay for £595 (used) 2, questions - is £595 a fair price?? And would it be easy (DIY) to remove the old unit and put in a new one. It would appear the connections are all ISO blocks??? Any hints or tips on how to remove would be greatly received. Thanks in advance - Rich

I take it you do just mean the radio/cd player, rather than the navigation screen too?

Its a very simple job once you know how. Google and you shall find (I'm not sure I want to present this kind of info on the internet myself, so a PM would be better). If you look for instructions on how to install an iPod kit, such as the Vaistech SLi, you will find out how it is done.

£595 sounds reasonable I suppose, as the only alternative is a dealer and I'm sure it would cost more. Why not call a dealer parts department to get the as new price? If it is not too different, you may get a guarantee as well as knowing that it is brand new and unmarked. Some cars have the Mark Levinson system as opposed to the basic system - which do you have?

You can just change the screen on these units i would look for a screen part number is on the back of the screen. I would also get a price from dealer for a screen as you may find its cheaper than £595. As for getting to the old unit out very easy job just four bolts. I may be too late with this.

  3. Managed to smash the passenger wing mirror on my 04 RX300. When i called the dealer they wanted £280 just for the glass !!

Any ideas where i can find an alternative? I'm not too bothered about losing the heating and dimming function. Just want something that can do the job of a wing mirror.

The original wing mirror housing itself is fine and the motor still moves so i just need the glass.

    Cheers

  5. Hi there

I fitted EBC Greenstuff pads 6000`s meant for 4x4 use. These were fitted to my Mitsubishi Delica 2.8td, they stated less dust infact i had a lot more dust then the blueprint pads. I checked them after about 500 miles and was glad i did as the pad had started to delaminate from the backing. I contacted EBC regarding this fault and all they could say was buy another set at £64 and send us the other if they are faulty we will send you a refund it shoud take around 2 months. So i told them to suff there pads. I will never use EBC pads again.

I use blueprint pads on my 3l harrier and they stop it in a heart beat and there is not a lot of dust. This is just my opinion and from an experience i have had but there are probably a lot of people out there who have no issues with these pads.

    Cheers

  6. Hi,

I am the proud owner of an RX300 2003 model (purchased Sep 2003). Unfortunately, I noticed the front headlamp surround driver side was cracked recently. The headlights were working fine. I could not think of anything that could have caused this. The car had been for its 6 year service only the day before at the lexus dealership and I wondered whether they could have done something. I called them and they offered to take a look at it. They said it was not covered by the warranty and said it would cost £300 plus to repair ( £193.00 for the part). They said it was probably caused by an impact to the headlamp e.g. spare wheel of a 4x4 reversing onto it. I could not understand this because there was no crack on the outer glass of the headight and it was only the inner chrome/plastic surround that had cracked. Also no scratches on the bumper etc. The car was due its MOT and they told me it would fail because the headlamp was loose but they said they could stabilise it by doing some plastic welding which they did for a cost of £70. I am now left with an unsightly crack/gap in the surround around the beam light. Has anyone had a similar problem? Shouldn't the outer glass of the headlamp crack if there had been such an impact as to crack the inner surround? Should this be covered by the warranty as I would interpret this as part of the bodywork?

    Thanks for your help.

I would have thought if a spare wheel of a 4x4 hit the light enough to split the inside lens then there would be more damage on the outside or even some paint/rubber transfer on the headlight or wing. Is there any impact damage on the engine side of the light could it have been smacked by a heacy hand tech whilst carring out your service. Just a thought.

    Cheers

  7. Hi all hope someone can help, I have a 2001 RX300 Mk1. whilst changing the boot interior light bulb, something appears to have blown and left me with no remote locking, no headlights, no radio, no computer display. there may be more missing but I don't know yet.

Does anyone have any ideas what has gone and what I need to do to fix it.

    Any hel appreciated

Check the fuse in the engine bay you have may have shorted the lot whilst changing the boot bulb and it may still be shorting out touching the back plate of the light.

  8. This is an extract from a blue light training course i done. I used to be on the Coastguard serach and rescue team and i had the chance to do a five day driver training course with the police. I think there is a web page some where with the same info posted.

Blue Lights can not be used merely for convenience

There are restrictions upon the use of blue lights. Take a look at these four statements and see which ones you think are correct.

1.Vehicles that carry blue lights can drive as fast as they like at any time.

2.If a traffic light is on red then we are permitted to cross it to clear the way for a vehicle with its blue lights on.

3.Vehicles with blue lights flashing have the right of way in all situations.

4.Fire engines may push your vehicle if it is in the way.

To take the blue light questions one at a time:-

    1) Vehicles that carry blue lights can drive as fast as they like at any time.

In their dreams maybe. When the blue lights are off they are bound by the same rules of the road as the rest of us. When the blue lights and sirens are on they may travel as fast as it is safe to do so if the situation requires it.

    2) If a traffic light is on red then we are permitted to cross it to clear the way for a vehicle with its blue lights on.

Not a chance. Crossing a red light may cause an unexpected hazard for other traffic who may not have been aware of the emergency vehicle. The priority remains with the other traffic. If the blue light emergency vehicle does not have the space to get by and the traffic from the other direction has stopped as well then it would be safe to move forward to make a gap. Plenty of observation would of course be required.

    3) Vehicles with blue lights flashing have the right of way in all situations.

As they approach a major junction blue light vehicles will be very progressive with their driving and they will move forwards as far as they possibly can before being forced to halt by the traffic. Blue light vehicles however do not have the right to just drive into the flow of traffic unless it is safe to do so.

    4) Fire engines may push your vehicle if it is in the way.

The fire service is allowed to move any vehicles blocking their way if they cannot find the driver. They will do everything that they can to move it without damaging it. If they still cannot gain the necessary access to the scene of an emergency then they will probably attach a chain to the axle and drag it. If this is not possible they will tip your vehicle onto its side if necessary to get by. Their first priority has got to be attending the emergency to which they have been called out!

    Regards

    Eddie
