    Me too

For me this is the only combo to go for

But we live in a world of varying taste thank god

or else it would be a very boring world

What I really love about the sonic red is how it gives the illusion of glowing. The multi coat paint is sure something. Not just a “regular” metallic but it has so many different hues.

I’ve had a lot of compliments just on the paint colour.

  2. A short update.

The car is back - the alloy was refurbed and it’s a 99% match. I’m happy with it and if you didn’t know you would never be able to tell. Will share photos but from 1 foot out it’s as good as new, a little closer and you can tell where it was refurbed by feel as opposed to sight.

But…. Not that I will use it much, I can now successfully send locations to the car via the app. Lexus Leicester had to make a setting change in the engineering menus (I’m guessing that’s a laptop connected to the PC) and hey presto. The car also alerts me to texts too now, which it didn’t before.

  3. So a short update on getting the pre-existing chrome alloy wheel damage (it was very minor) repaired. The dealer initially struggled to find a place that would do it. They looked far and wide. Thanks to the contributions by members on this forum I pointed them to 2 repair outfits that might be able to do it (one in Coventry, the other in MK). The wheel is now at Coventry being repaired. Expect pics next week. If all goes well, we have another reference point for where to get stuff sorted once the when not if scenario occurs with these wheels.

Also - sending a destination via the phone to the car. The dealer originally stated it’s just not possible. But… through the perseverance of the team (an individual to be more precise), they think they cracked it. It was a setting buried deep in the menus accessed via their laptops. Further testing in progress by the dealer but if it is the fix, I’ll share the steps / changes they made as I know I’m not alone with this issue.

Next challenge - getting apple car play to work without having the strip stuff back

  4. As was I…. They initially had it booked in for an hour as they thought it would be easy… it apparently wasn’t and needed a fair few parts removed including the rear glass hence this is attempt 2. I didn’t have much to show for that visit accept a couple Of cups of Nespresso and more milage.

Unrelated to this issue was my inability to send a location via Lexus link to the sat nav.

The app says it’s sent, nothing happens in the car. I force the retrieval from the setting menu and no luck. Not a huge issue as I prefer to use Waze on my phone whilst streaming music but it’s the principle. I’m guessing this is more my account set-up than anything else but I will keep you posted.

I’ll be sure to do a new (used) car owners review shortly but the car belonged to a member on here anyway!

No regrets so far, absolutely love it.

  5. I’ve had my first issue… condensation in the rear view camera that takes days to clear out and ruins the functionality of the already average rear view camera.

It’s being replaced under warranty but it was an involved repair requiring the rear window to be removed!

Dealer has so far been great.

  6. Just to add… I’ve also got a small amount of condensation in the rear camera. Makes it useless until it goes away after a few days but it should be airtight/moisture proof!

I’ll set up a new thread for that if the saga continues but that’s the main reason it’s in. The tyre refurb is just a convenience thing (and a commitment by the dealer at point of purchase).

  7. I have those too….

I bought my car used from Lexus with a slight “chip” missing from one of these alloys. The dealer has agreed to refurb them at my convenience but didn’t seem to bothered or worried about how hard it may or may not have been.

I really don’t think an alloy refurb would be hard. Forged or otherwise the process is the same. Arguably, a little less faff as they are not diamond cut finished.

    The chrome is just paint.

However, why have the hassle to find out. Let Lexus do it and if it causes issues you know it will be easier to address it with Lexus.

  8. Are they actually hard to refurb? They look like they are completely painted? Black gloss and chrome (it’s not diamond cut).

It really depends on the premium you pay at Lexus….

If the answer is “yes no one can paint it the way they come” then I would take it Lexus personally but do ask them to price match a quote from black circles or similar.

    Do keep us posted.

  9. I’m going through this process now. The Goodyears the car came with just are not good enough. I’ve asked for a pair of pilot sport 4s if that is even doable. I know it’s not run flats but I don’t mind carrying an inflator foam can around for more traction.

Do keep us posted on where you end up.

  10. All,

A quick update this is what I've got....

"I have sent in a product report today and the ID number is 214409. I apologise but unfortunately I haven’t managed to ring technical today.

Regarding your auto lock problem, that would be something that we need to take a look at and to try and fix for you.

I have also sent Lexus a copy of your email for them to look at."

    Will keep you posted!

  11. Does the GS Mk4 have door auto locking?

My RX400h automatically locks the door after about 15mph. Looked through the manual and on board setting but can only find information on unlocking the doors. Seems a backward step if they have removed this feature.

It doesn't I've just emailed the below issue list for lexus to look at and respond against, auto lock was one of them...

This is what I sent..... Note point 2 is a bit specific to me!!

    "The issues are:

    1) connected services just do not work. The phone tethers fine attempts to connect, hangs for a minute and throws an error along the lines of there being an internet connection issue, which100% is not the issue!! Looking on the forums and owners club it seems as though I'm not alone with these issues on the GS.

    2) Harder to replicate, but still occurs sporadically, the sat nav system (entertainment system) freezes. When it does the only solution is to them the car on and off. Pointless when your on the motorway driving cross country and depending on the nav to get you there.

Other irritants (which I know other owners too would appreciate addressing) include....

    A) the sat nav providing guidance command whilst on the Bluetooth phone. Previous Lexus models did not do this and how Lexus believe a step forward for a business/luxury oriented car includes informing conference call attendees directions to and from a location is beyond me. To turn this feature off during a call involves far too many clicks and is potentially dangerous. Furthermore you have to turn on voice commands post the call with an equal number of clicks.

    B) the auto door lock feature when you drive away is no longer present. Other Lexus models, including current Lexus models like the IS300h do this!

    C) Limited voice commands - seems as though we can't even set the temperature with the voice commands. My 06 is220d se-l was able to this and more! Furthermore expanded voice commands is a feature in the american GS's and they can set the temp etc! Why strip this out for UK cars?

I look forward to Lexus's formal position on the above."

As always I can't fault the service this dealership provides, or the car mechanically... But the tech feels as though it's taken a step backwards. Be interested to hear your views on this.

I'll let you know what they come back with!

  12. Hi All,

Agree with silver arrow - I found the ML in my previous is220d more "fuller". There are certain frequencies which the IS220d ML just handled better. A case in point - if I play MJ Dirty Dianna in the IS, the initial 15 seconds on that song has my entire car vibrating, in a good way. In the GS, there is no such drama, very flat, like it's got gaps in certain frequencies.

That's not to say it's bad... it's still one heck of a system... but I did expect better.

It's interesting to hear that the IS may "suffer" a similar issue. It's the type of issue you'd only flag if you had a ML system before, if not you'd just be over the moon about the step change in quality!

Regarding the digital read out of speedo, I agree this is a missing feature, I've got on the E - Class and it's hard not to live without it!

  13. Hi All,

Just saw this thread and thought I'd dust if off!
I've just picked up a gs250 F sport with ML system!
You're all right it was a bargain... There is something to be said about a naturally aspirated gs250 (all of which are positive so far).
And what a purr when you put your foot down.

First impressions are all good, look forward to posting more often going forward!

PS previous car was a 06 IS220d SE-L with MM (never gave me a single issue, so I must have been very lucky!)
Current Car (shared with the wife!) is a 2012 E-class, E250.

    Thanks,

    Shapiro
