Thanks for all the advice, I'm due to inspect the car next week after some smart repairs have been completed. In hidsight I should have negotiated harder for all four tyres before paying a deposit & signing the sales agreement. Another Lexus dealer informed me that any approved used car must have a minimum of 3mm tread on each tyre, I can't find this written anywhere on their website, is this true?

Greetings all, i'm soon to become the proud new owner of a Tungsten mist Rx300 SE-l . In chosing what to buy I considered other alternatives such as X3's, X5's, Freelanders but always came back to an RX300 as it seems to tick all the right boxes. The cars being sold as an approved used car at Lexus Reading, my only concern are the tyres. The fronts were badly worn on the inside & outside edges so I negociated replacements as part of the final price, The two rears are just under 3mm all over & would only take me a few months of driving before thay also need replacing, despite this being an mot pass should the garage replace them before selling the car? Also the 60k service is due in Jan10 so together with the cost of tyres I am looking at spending another £800 in the next four months...
