  1. I've viewed the black one and if you're a perfectionist about your cars then I doubt you'd be happy with the condition.

Black paint obviously shows more marks than other colours but this one has quite a few chips and scratches around the bodywork, the leading edge of the drivers side rear door was especially badly chipped. It looked like the driver had been catching it with something when getting in and out of the car. To be fair to the dealer they did say they would sort them but it wasn't for me. The drivers seat bolster was quite worn too.

  2. The silver is-f in Sheffield has had a replacement service book at some point which has been stamped up for the last two or three years but anything before that is blank. Not good for a car of that value IMO.

I've zoomed in on the photos of the blue one in London and I'm pretty sure it has Barum tyres fitted. Why would you fit such cheap tyres and it makes me wonder what other corners have been cut to save money. I suppose it could have been a lease car as some lease companies can be really tight when it comes to replacing tyres etc.

  3. Just a quick update to this problem.

Now that the warmer weather is here I finally made an effort to have a look at the fuel gauge. I removed the speedo pod and carefully removed the clear perspex front cover so I could get up and personal with the fuel gauge needle. As I suspected the base of it was catching very slightly on the rear panel. Very carefully I pulled the needle away a fraction and now have a fully functioning fuel gauge, it's quite a novelty :D

  4. So guys ...black or silver ...or carbon fibre? my car is and I am thinking to paint some bits and pieces in black (headlights, stop lights, indicators, and maybe the roof.)

    Suggestions?

    Anyone?

Ok, Ok ..I will try one more time...

If your car is going to have some black areas I'd try a black spoiler, you can always paint it if you don't like it. I fitted a black spoiler rather than body coloured to my weekend toy

  5. Had to curve it to fit but it was easy to do, two pairs of hands will help though. Because of the cold weather I warmed the boot lid and spoiler with a hairdryer to help the tape to stick. Don't remove the backing tape in one go either, remove the first couple of inches and place the spoiler on the boot. Remove the backing tape as you curve the spoiler along the boot pushing down as you do so.

  6. After searching the forum I realise that a faulty fuel gauge is a common problem on the is200 but mine seems slightly different.

I've only had the car a couple of weeks so have only been to the petrol station twice in that time. When I collected the car the gauge was showing almost empty so I called at a petrol station and bought £30 of fuel. It wasn't until a few miles down the road that I noticed the gauge hadn't moved and immediately started to think I'd been robbed by the petrol station

As I was driving along I tapped the top of the dash near the fuel gauge and the needle moved upwards slightly. So I did it again, and again, and again, each time the needle moved about a mm finally stopping at about a third full. Must be a loose connection or dry joint I thought but when I came to turn off the ignition the needle didn't fall back to empty as it should and has remaind on a third full ever since.

I've just paid another visit to the petrol station and this time filled the tank. Again the needle didn't rise from until I tapped the top of the dash repeatedly, again moving a mm at a time until it showed almost full where it has remained ever since even with the ignition off.

Is there a fix for this that doesn't involve replacing the dash? I'm not against stripping down the speedo pod and getting jiggy with the soldering iron.

  7. Just to update this...

Against everyones advice I bought the "S"

I decided to go on the condition of the car over the trim and this one is in not bad nick plus it has only had one owner. It is in need of a cambelt and service though which I'll probably do myself.

The only niggle is the common fuel gauge fault. When I collected the car it was reading empty so I put £30 in the tank which didn't register on the gauge. I gave the top of the dash a couple of taps which caused the gauge to go up to just over a quarter of a tank where it has remained ever since, even with the ignition key removed. Is there a fix for this that doesn't involve replacing the speedo pod? I'm pretty handy with the soldering iron.
