  1. Hi all, looking to change my air and oil filters. Has anyone used the K&N filter at about £50.00 which apparently is washable and guaranteed for the life of the car. If so thoughts please, are they worth it. As for oil filter genuine or motor factor, and what engine oil is best used. As this is my first LS400 1993, i want to get it right. Cheers.
  2. Yes correct, it was missing, i have a selection of grommits so i replaced that at the same time. thanks to all for your help.
  3. The previous owner changed the coil pack and leads, i'm waiting for confirmation on one or both. Yes im happy its running on all 8. It isn't missing, but i will check tomorrow that all leads are correctly fitted. Apparently only one was changed. Can you enlighten me as to the location of both. Well all, i have discovered the problem this morning, on taking off all the plastic work on right hand cylinder bank, the new coil lead had been trapped and cut in two, fortunately previous owner had left old leads in boot. Fitted lead and fired her up, WOW. Put it all back together, been for a run, goes like the preverbial Faith restored in lexus. Thanks for contributions, got the grey matter working. Allan.

  5. It was not ok before i changed the exhaust, one of the old cats, had broken up and was causing partial blockage, o/s cat had no internals at all, which is why i changed complete system. There are no warning lights on. When the pedal is floored it does kick down, it seems sluggish with the changes, and can be a little jerky. It does rev to the red line in neutral, But as my last V8 was a Rover 3500S P6, its difficult to say whether its a normal process as this engine is quiet and does'nt seem to make a fuss if you understand what i mean. It also idles at about 800 rpm, quite steadily. On hills i change manually to 1ST gear and then as revs slowly pick up i change back to drive, its that gutless. I have spoken to the previous owner, and i believe he is being less than truthfull with me. I can tell you no more . Many thanks.
  6. Hi, i'm new to the club, i recently sold my GS300, and bought an LS400, 1993 model. I have changed the cats and exhaust system right through, however there is a lack of get up and go, I believe it could be passed by a trabant at the moment. It struggles to get to 50-60 mph. On hills it slows to a crawl. It has also had a new coil pack, leads and plugs, making no difference. Is there an area that i should look at for a possible cause.
  7. I recently purchased a1993 Ls400 with some issues, most of which have been sorted. My main problem is that my so called 140mph V8 struggles to get to 60. I discovered that one of the cats had broken up internally and was causing a blockage. I have fitted 2 new cats and replaced the entire system from the cats back. This has shown some improvement to the get up and go. However it still struggles to move forward at pace, and on encountering even slight hills all this massive power evaporates leaving me to kick down or select first gear manually, it then slowly accelerates , so that i can then get back into drive. I must say that no warning lights are on, the engine seems to rev freely at standstill, i have checked gearbox oil levels, all ok. The gear oil is not smelling or unduly dirty. I am wondering if maybe the torque converter is U/S. COULD ONE OF YOU KIND MEMBERS MAYBE HELP ME WITH AN ANSWER< AND POSSIBLE CURE. Many thanks, Allan.
