  1. Didn't want to mention this before - well until I'd got all the parts I needed.

    http://www.car-transplants.co.uk/spares.asp

This company have 3 LS400's for breaking,

    93 LS400 Mk2

    95 LS400 Mk3

    98 LS400 Mk4

The details are not listed on their site, but give em a call.

The alternator & power steering pump are still on the Mk2 (found these just after I'd had both mine replaced). - Don't go looking for the Temp/LCD display though !

    Hope this helps sombody !!

    cheers

    Jason

  2. To answer some of the above -

    Jason,

Have you found that there is a significant drop in performance using LPG ? Does the car pull as much as before? Can you simply switch between fuel and gas, or do you get issues with it?

How much did the full install cost for your one?

    @ 40MPG that's well worth thinking about !

(Sorry dont know how to do a nice box !)

Yes there is definatley a drop in performance, 0-60 times suffer, but on motorway driving you would never know - the saving outwieghs this anyway

"Normal" driving you would never know

Flick between gas/petrol with flick of switch

Never (touch wood) had any problems with the conversion (it was a proper LPGA approved one)

Installation - the car was converted when I bought it. I was looking for a LS for quite a while (looked at loads that were all dogs) - this was a "well priced" dog with fleas, but I saw the potential (and saving from LPG) - I was told the installation would have been about 2K.

I did fill the petrol tank once (£53.00) and run without LPG - what a shock that was

I am now a LPG convert - Looking for a Mk4 with or without LPG - if without I would definatly convert it.

Did sombody mention raising tax on LPG - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Oh yes, my MPG figure are not actuals (as you point out) it is based on Petrol price to LPG price ie £15.00 of LPG gets between 175 and 200 miles

    Thank *** for Morrison's 29pence per litre.

    cheers !

Ps - Only 1 bad point - lost my boot thanks to LPG tank (it's a big-un!)

  3. I had exactly the same problem, it turned out to be the alternator - go along to a local "quick fit" or similar and ask for a free check - they can check the output from the alternator which should be approx 14V - I think you will find yours less than 12V (hence the lights comming on) - Get it fixed, straight away - unlike me - you ever tried puching one of these :shutit:

  4. I have exactly the same problem...most annoying :hehe:

Jusy like when you unlock the car with the remote, open the back door and spend 30 seconds fastening my daughter in the baby seat - then try to open the drivers door but it has locked itself.

It got really worse, about 2 weeks after buying the car I did this and left my keys on the back seat - My daughter thought this was really funny - learning a new "how to open the car door for daddy trick"

The worst 30 minutes I have ever spent in Asda car park :o

  5. Micelis, As James said you need to find out where the fluid went - I had exactly the same problem, in the end I had to have the pump reconditoned as this is a common problem with the LS400.

As you look at the pump from under the bonnet, about 2" to the right there is a small "stem" that sticks up, if you get a piece of tissue, "twist it" and feel around the top of the stem, if it is wet your pump needs fixing (it is very difficult to spot with the eye) - Also check the tray at the bottom of the engine behind the rad - this is a common place where the fluid runs after goin through you alternator.

If you ignore this (like I did :duh: ) it will ruin your alternator as well, total cost to me to fix both was £800 - If you catch it in time and just have the pump reconditioned it will cost you about £200 http://www.powersteeringservices.co.uk/ did mine for me - (a new pump is £390 + VAT).

Don't make the same mistake as me - you will kick yourself, it may seem like a small problem but it can become very costly

  6. I am looking to replace the wheels on my Mk1 Ls400 - i would really like some Sc430 18" :D but can't find any cheap enough.

I am considering the 17" Is200SE wheels - does anybody know if they will fit without problems (ie spacers, rubbing etc) and should I keep the same tyre size 215/45/17 - I think these might look a bit skinny on an LS400 and was considering 225/50/17 - is this possible.

    cheers !

  7. Tryin to shift a LS400 with over 100K isn't easy - I've given up with mine (was tryin to sell my Mk1 to buy a Mk3 / Mk4)

I know they are good cars and engines can do well over 100K - but trying to explain this to potential buyers isn't easy.

If you need to get shut quickly, why not try an auction (Stoodleys / BCA in belle Vue) if trade is £5800 - you may be lucky - However I suspect the book values on these cars are way overvalued and trade know this :winky:

You could always try an auction on eBay
