  1. Well, to my disappointment, replacing the EGR valve and the sending unit did not help my situation. The exhaust has a strong gasoline odor, & the car shakes at idle. Anyone with any ideas would be greatly appreciated. TY, Pete
  2. I am hoping that this will solve the problem. My "Lex" was running poorly before the check engine light came on and took it to the mechanic, who said "something is holding the engine back". The car just didn't seem to be firing on all cylinders. Then when the light came on and I paid for the diagnostic, the same mechanic said that this maybe the answer to the other problem as well. It was a huge error on my part to get it fixed right there, but felt it was no big deal at the time. Trust me $1500 (1200 plus parts) later after a miss diagnosis of the top end and now having this done is a big deal to me. For those interested, the EGR Valve is in the back right side of the engine, when facing the engine with the hood up. Thank You Again All You Lexus Techs, Pete Fowler P.S.   3. Yes, i did pay to have the code read and that is what i was told. EGR sensor is not reading, not sure exactly but that is the jest of it, ty again. So my question is could that cause my Lex to smoke??
  4. Running rough, now using twice the petro it use to and just started smoking. Finally ordered the EGR valve w/ sensor. Will this fix my problem or is there something more happening here? Thank You In Advance, Pete

      The top has been done last week due to the bottom end being alright. Didn't help it a bit. Running rough for a while (2 months) and the code was the temp sensor on EGR valve. This problem also causes it to smoke and burn twice the petro.

      Ive ordered the EGR valve w/ temp sensor. Will this fix it or are there other problems as well?

  6. It was in the end a valve cover leak causing my plug to foul. Woohooo 150 parts and 120 labor, it now runs like the lion of old:)
  7. Was it running rough before changing the belts/leads/hoses? Or just since? What hoses did you change? Where abouts is the valve cover leak? The car just started running rough a month ago (3/29). The work described was done 2 years ago and only changed the front hoses. The valve cover leak is in the rear and is on the drivers side (near the #4). My machanic thinks it's a fouled plug, but I conviced him that that wouldn't give a lean condition, he agreed. He also said that when he stopped spark to all but the #4 cylinder it ran rougher. When stopping spark to the #4 it ran the same. The check engine light is not lit all the time and comes on and goea off periodically.
  8. 101k on drive train. Changed all belts (including timing), plugs wires and hoses at 80k. Has a valve cover leak. diagnosed to be the 4th cylinder. Codes show both a lean and rich condition, not sure what the actual codes are. Runs rough all the time, some times more than others. Is it possible to be the injector? and if not what?
