Not sure if the GS is the same but the LS needs to have the key inserted and turned to the ignition position for around 8 minutes then removed and reinserted to reset the immobiliser.

Generally the car will happily crank over fine but the engine will not fire, another indication is the red security light remains on after inserting the key.

Thanks Steve, same thing happened to my GS300 1999, tried the trick and it worked.

  2. Hi

Just a bit of information regarding the master cylinder/ abs/ brake booster. Tigerfish mentioned a guy in Soarerworld could rebuild them, I contacted the site and this is the reply, hope it helps someone.

    regards Gordon

  3. Engine and transmission are reliable. Suspension, brakes etc all subject to normal wear and tear.

I've had a 430 sport since 2005 and follow the service schedule with a Lexus dealer, only two problems I've had with it are the electric door mirror failing on the driver's side and on the cosmetic front the driver's seat piping on the bottom of the seat splitting in two. But considering how complex the car is that's really good - for comparison, a friend of mine bought a 2004 Audi A6 V8 in 2006 and it spends more time in the garage then it does on the road. I call it the bionic car as he could have bought a new one for what he's had to spend on it!

Strange I had the same problems, the auto dimming failed on the mirror also the pipping splits but it has done 170k plus.

  4. Thanks for that. I'll get a better pic later.

It's 80w90 universal gear oil. Bloke behind the counter went to technicians and said it's what they use for diff.

A quick search on net shows people use between 75w90 and 80w90. Now this is the worrying bit. Don't want to use the wrong grade

The specs say SAE 90 from -18deg C upward. SAE 80W or 80W - 90 for -18deg C or lower. Its just temperature based so it OK.
